Good vid John don't straight retrieve. jig the lure up and down steady especially in winter so it pumps on the bottom you will have much more action .. macc canal 👍

I do a lot of soft jelly lure fishing for perch & pike on a canal near me and I find that sometimes it's best to go smaller to get the bites. Also, try to 'match the hatch' with lures that are similar to what the fish are feeding on. Boats that have been moored up for a while can be quite productive. Your rod looked a bit heavy for perch fishing. I use a 1-7g casting weight laded wih 8lb braid which has landed me perch to nearly 3lb and 10lb pike.
Well yah caught a bag for life 😆. should have gone too ASDA 30p and kept dry,,,,,oh and visited the fish counter 😂😂 love yah loads ,try fishing canals the normal way float and bait
I always carry a cheap plastic poncho in my pocket or pack when I’m lure fishing it’s saved me a soaking a few times for a couple of quid John tight lines
Mate I do sea and fresh water why only sea or fresh fish when you can do both mate my PB perch was 7 pound on a live bait for pike a few years ago would like to see a mix off fresh and sea and with the cold starting now you’ll probably get your best look for big perch in them deep water parts cos the water ain’t as cold in deeper water as it is at the top and in dark water like that white with silver glitter works or full white I’ve found to work best in water like that or worms on a feeder or float in deep water keep it going mate can’t wait for the next one
Fishing is getting hard even so you don't catch any fish and you record it you should how fishing is really about you do not always catch fish every you Go
Possibly the action of that rod is a little soft/light so not setting the hook fully on the initial take, letting em big mouths spit it more easily? Just a thought as I already know you keep your hooks super sharp. It was a very good move fishing the edge of that longer term moored boat, esp. as these shallow working canals have so little weed or natural cover to spring an ambush from. These 'escaped convict' fish just like hiding out somewhere shady and mugging innocent Roach on there way to/from Cheshire Oaks!😊
