Excellent job Andy in explaining and demonstrating the wrist hinge and turn method which simplifies the golf swing! I have begun using this technique and it's surprising how easy it is. Well Done Sir! Happy Holidays!!
Andy this video is shocking to me personally because I have literally started doing this in the past 2 weeks with very positive results! My ball striking has been a struggle for a few months, I pull the club inside as well and it causes weak and inconsistent strikes! Out of frustration I started presetting the club and my swing feels compact and powerful! Ball striking much more crisp and centered! So ironic that I’m seeing this video right now. I’m going to keep using this setup for now and monitor the progress! Great work Andy, keep it up!
I tried it today and filmed it. Looks like it fixes my club paths a great deal. I will keep working on it because it looks like is the only move that works every time. Thank you!!!👍
@@marcosgarces6295 that’s great to read, I keep using this technique and hope it becomes more natural but seems to be working
Thank you, Andy. I started to apply this principle in the past month and only making my backswing travel up to my shoulder. My distance is slightly less, but my club face is square. It imparts a great feeling of confidence, and my scores have improved. I feel my club head speed is faster at impact, resulting in higher iron and wedge shots rather than my usual line drives. Winter is fast approaching, I hope I can ingrain this in my muscle memory before the season is over.
I love 'Testing the tips' but this one is an absolute game changer. For me it has simply stopped me from trying to muscle the club head like an athlete pro, to allowing the club head do the work. 👍🏻
I think I’m writing saying it was David Ledbetter this method. I think it was in golfing monthly 25 years ago. I studied this to the letter I wasn’t the beginner ended up. Ended up having six lessons. I still stuck to the mechanical swing that’s what my dad used to tell me anyway but it worked after four lessons. The coach had me hitting a ball hitting a high piercing 7 iron repeatedly 150 yards after nine months of playing golf I had an 83 shooting in the mid 80s regularly. Just got back into golf again after 20 years I’m struggling big time. I’ve decided to practice this method on the range and persevere with it once you’ve got it it is so so reliable. Not everything in the swing, but it is a major part of it enjoy your video
Love the “Tommy Fleetwood” finish!!!!
Andy you described my faults as well, this sounds good I’m definitely going to try it Thanks!
I have been using faldo drill for many years and it always works for me
Nice one Andy. This principle fixed my inside takeaway tendency early this season. The feel that works for me is that the lead shoulder starts the sequence by pressing the lead arm and hand down, which presses the handle down, which sets the wrists as an end result. To me, the lead wrists sets and goes towards flexion, the trail wrist just goes along for the ride. Of my trail wrist I am really only conscious in the downswing (release). Since I used to be an avid (and sometimes even good if my timing was right on the day) toe flipper I needed a feel that didn't focus on wrists :-) because to me they need to stay passive ('dead' but not as in rigor mortis). Perhaps that could help others having the same issue of overactive wrists too.
😮 Just watched a Patrick Damore YT video from 12 years ago on this same subject before catching yours. Funny how swing instruction has changed over the years. This seems way easier.
Thanks Andy - that looks a great tip; I'll ceratinly give it a go.
That's like the L to L style swing. I discovered doing this, didn't realize it's taught by Mike Malaska, and gained 15+/-yds per club, not even thinking about a thousand other movements plus easy on the body.
Impressive
C@@TheAverageGolferstarted this Andy... My 8 iron carry has gone from 155 up to about 158 to 160 with less body effort.. Great content pal
If you haven’t already done so it would be interesting to see you try the Easiest Swing method. it looks like it says what it does on the tin.
A rehash of everything gone before, but that's not a slating. I've been down many a rabbit hole watching and using RUclips vids. I know which ones do and won't work, but it's taken a while. Swimming in a sea of endless content, the average golfer is doing a good job. And he's living the dream. Sigh.
Hi Andy - I like this idea for a series ! One comment-rather than having club face horizontal at 1st position I’ve been told to have it parallel to spine. This would be a slightly more closed and prevent your “sliced” shots ?
Great video😊
Very impressive Andy and a drill I will start using as I also pull the club back inside. Could you guide me to a 3 wood that has a neutral face as most I've seen are all offset
to stop the open face should the face be parallel to your spine angle
Your bringing your hands out
Excellent! Thanks.
I realised i have a certain up swing thats been working that is a variation of this... i also noticed sometimes if u can hit your wedges and not your iron or wooda. Imagine youre hitting your wedge when u are about to hit your irons... helps!
The left wrist angle controls the angle of the club face at impact. If the wrist is flat (no angle) with the left forearm at the top of the swing and at impact the club face will hit the ball square
What might help with the open club face is if you move your glove hand towards the target so feel like your glove hand thumb turns down towards the target as you swing the club through. That will square the club face every time
I used this when I was in South Africa in the 80’s. I used to play with an old pro called Simon Hobday, apparently David Leadbetter got his swing mechanics from watching Simon who was an amazing ball striker, perhaps one of the best ever!
He told me that what it does is simplifies the swing in that the impact position is pre-set and the rotation is a one piece movement that keeps the swing on plane. From the top the club just fall straight down and gravity allows the club to stay on plane and is delivered from the strong inside position this is where all the power is generated from that 90° horizontal set in the down swing to just after the 6 O-clock position at impact.
One of the reasons Faldo changed his swing to this type was that it was repeatable over and over again and was sustainable under pressure of competition. I think back to back Masters wins 3 Open wins and 3 Masters titles are testament to how durable this swing is!
One final thing Andy Simon once said to me that the set position is important as a drill, but in practice it is not always a perfect parallel it’s the feel that counts and it’s the old adage “feel V’s real “
Enjoy great video!!
Andy, will this work with a driver as well as irons.
thank you.
Thanks makes so much sense .
It’s been very good so far
@ you have a very repeatable swing , I’m struggling to find mine again , not giving up though .
@@paulwinsor4599 give it a try, good luck
Used to teach this back in the 90's. Set the wrists like you say, pump the arms a little way back and forth, 1 2 3, hit the ball. Also at home put an 6ft cane in the ground to simulate the swing plane from the rear, set the wrists, touch the cane, slide the club up the outside of the cane going back then down the cane on the inside, not hitting balls of course.
@@texmex697 ok will give that a try
David Leadbetter made an appearance on James Robinson channel sometime this year when he talks about being in this position when parallel and if I remember rightly he mentioned that he wondered why people didn’t do this whilst playing anyway.
It is certainly an eye opener and simple to execute
Well done and as you say what you think you are doing and do are not always the same. If it works for you do it. I watched and pretty sure most coaches are saying the club face at that first point should be same as spine angle not straight up. But???
Yes I think the reference point re the spine angle would be correct
How far are you hitting that 9-iron with that technique?
Hi Andy
Do you use this tip on your driver as well?
Yes I do!
Haha was literally thinking about my wrists in during my round yesterday
Try this
“Now look at that, that’s the best top of the backswing position you’re ever gunna be in your life”, said Nick Faldo
Can't tell if your wrist is cupped or flat at the top. Does it matter? I see a lot of flat wrist at the top but seems when I try to focus on it, I lose my good contact. Thanks.
I don’t know if I am honest
@@TheAverageGolfer Thank you for your reply. Really enjoying the channel. Have taken several actions on your reccos.
Are you missing out on width in the swing
Is the toe up in this position or slightly pointing down?
I worked with slightly down but checkout Faldos original video
I do same but at top of backswing. Your method is better because you can visually check that the club face is on plane. Great tip, Andy! But right again about committing to square up at impact. Can easily see the results.
Yes I like that you can see where you are at before the shoulders turn
Don't worry about clearing the left side, release your hands and wrists through the ball.
I can only tell you what made the difference for me
What i meant is... That's probably why the ball is going a little right. You aren't fully releasing the wrist angle through the ball
@@pipebliss maybe
If you keep this up you're going to have to change your name 😀 (You're hitting the ball great these days!)
Bad for wedges and short irons
It was shocking that you managed to square the face at impact on most shots and avoid huge slices because the hinge at club parallel leaves the face wide open! Thew rest makes sense, and keeping the club on plane removes some variable; fewer variables means less to go wrong, and more consistency.
Good tip,but it looks like you're coming over the a bit?Or am I just seeing things because that's my biggest fault?
Dear avergage golfer
Would be able to get Sir Nick Faldo or even better his great teacher David Leadbetter ( Sir Nick's secret) on your wonderful channel to explain this move or pre- set position. I roll my wrist on the take away and l am concerned this would only encourage this? Although I can see its working wonderfully for you You are stripping it
Are you just using this technique with your irons?
No I have tried it from wedges through to driver
@ Cheers. I’ll give it a go in the morning then.
@ don’t blame me if it doesn’t work 😂😂 good luck 🤞
@ Oh come on I can’t blame myself. Golfers never blame themselves 😂
@ that’s a good point, blame me 👍😂
I actually play like this, from this set position , I'm very accurate and you feel a lot more relaxed with it. If you are struggling out to the right you can do the following. Close your club head 45 degrees and then grip the club as normal then rotate your hands so the club head is now in t's " normal position " This will help you to get a square slightly closed club face at impact. You can also as mentioned simply ensure you rotate through the ball fully by bringing the shaft through to target and inside left and up . ( Through and left. ) This swing as mentioned is super accurate needs almost no work but has one minor downside, you will or may lose a few yards, but who cares if you are ultra straight. There is a drill by Alistair Davies that's teaches you to pull the club through and left for better rotation which is deffo worth watching. Ill find the link and post it.

It is very effective and how I have played for several weeks, very simple method
Yes , the only danger i think is over analysing it, there's no need . Just set it turn and turn. Lol .Good luck with it. Paul
