Most likely it's a large raid, but it's also a demonstration of independence, initiative and operational security. Ukraine is showing that it is not a client or vassal state which will have settlement terms negotiated on their behalf.
Evidence that the Ukrainians are preparing defensible positions on Russian territory would be a key indicator of their intentions.

The only reason they could do this attack is because their administration is funded by western tax money, and are dependant on constant supply of weapons. The recruitment officers who mobilize ukrainian men by force, are paid by this money. It's been pretty obvious they are a vassal state at this point, whether you support them or not. Some just don't want to acknowledge it. But imagine your company is bankrupt, and it's only survival is to get saved by state money and other bigger corporations.

It’s brilliant the conscripts can’t hold course so Russia will either need to take its troops from other parts of the front line which will alleviate the pressure on other fronts or flooding more conscripts Who can be captured and traded for more Ukrainian prisoners of war conscripts are more important than contractors as contractors made a decision but conscripts they were forced into this. If Russia moves of the contract soldiers Ukraine can press some of the regions that have become depleted or they can take Kursk fortify it as a beach head and flank South to pressure the Donbas north flank which will be less defended .

Zelensky did all this to get PR. However, this offensive will backfire for Ukraine in coming months. Ukraine is currently using its special force to conduct this incursion. However, it lacks regular soldiers to hold the frontline for a longer time. Russia has more men power than Ukraine. It can easily redeploy its forces from other regions. Contrary to this, Ukraine will have to move its troops from eastern frontline to there. This will open a window for Russia to accelerate offensive in Donbas, which will eventually lead to panic in Ukrainian frontlines. So, Zelensky may get some media approval. However, in the long run, he will waste men, material and territory of Ukraine.
They are calling back Wagners from Africa, that kind of region? Just like Putin would love to open a new front, asking N-korea or Iran to do just that.
