I used to live in Silverton. It's one of the most remote places in Texas. Beautiful area, and great people. County Road 29 that runs along the Caprock Canyons State Park is an amazing drive. But it is 4x4 only.

Wow truly an awesome video and your timing for the release of the video is great, as I'm preparing to go back to Texas from Wisconsin for the winter again. Since I have limited mobility on my feet, scenic highway videos and suggestions for places of interest are really appreciated. I also look forward to seeing more of your wonderful videos.

Thank you! Our neck of the woods. Couple of things. First, thanks for the 'Prada' insert just outside Valentine, TX. I've watched many a vehicle slam on their brakes when it comes into view. Second, sadly, Cornudas Cafe (aka May's Cafe) has closed down. I ate their every week for almost four years on my weekly trip from El Paso to Carlsbad. Absolutely great food, yet, all good things must come to an end.

I toured David Mountain loop in 2002 and again in 2008, both occasions at the end of summer season. The air was cool and crisp up in those mountain roads, though just 30 miles away it was 95-100 fahrenheit

HWY 83 from Hamlin to Perryton is a pleasant view, as is 152 from Pampa to Borger, especially at sunset. RM1061/HWY385 from Amarillo to Channing is pretty as well.

All my life I had to hear all the oil people talk about how boring the drive is all the way to the oil fields in west texas. They made it seem like it was a no man's land of nothing. Then I went there myself and was amazed. Went all through the Davis and guadalupe mountains and had no idea we had this in texas all this time.

It truly is beautiful over there. I haven't been that way in many years, I used to live in Memphis and in Amarillo and used to climb all over PaloDura canyon, now my Son lives there with his Family and they're not that far from there so they visit it regularly. I enjoyed your video, thanks for taking us along with you!

Add to that list the Pinto Canyon Road a.k.a. the "Marfa Road to Nowhere" and the Quitman Canyon Road (formerly the Butterfield Overland Trail) through the Quitman Mountains from Sierra Blanca to the Rio Grande. Both are easily done with a 2wd standard car (as long as its dry). Also the Transmountain Highway (the "back door" around El Paso), TX-70 from Perryton to Pampa, the Sheffield Loop (Loop 290), The Pandale Road, and the Comstock-Ozona Stage Road through Dead Man's Pass.

I like how you snuck in that zoom shot of Mt. Livermore at 5:52. That area of the Davis Mountains is truly a forested sky island in the arid terrain of West Texas. It's almost like our own little part of the Rocky Mountains. Surprised you didn't mention the McDonald Observatory, as that's a great place to stop for a good cup of hot coffee on a cool day and enjoy some great views of the surrounding mountains. The "star parties" there are also a fun way to spend an evening learning about astronomy.

Best most scenic drives in Texas in my opinion are the following
US 62-180 between the TX/NM Border west of Carlsbad, NM and El Paso, especially the part thru the Guadalupe Mountains and Guadalupe Pass.
I-10 between San Antonio and Sonora, TX, as well as between Ozona, TX and Ft Stockton, and between i-20 and EL Paso!
TX 207 thru the Palo Duro Canyon!
TX 16 in the TX Hill Country
US 83 between I-10 and Uvalde
TX 55 between Rock Springs and Uvalde
Any hwy thru the Davis Mtns.
TX 118 between I-10 and Big Bend NP

FYI - Llano Estacado isn't pronounced with the L sound. It is Spanish and a double L, so it is pronounced with a Y sound. "Yaa-no Estacada"

Love and prefer Caprock over Palo Duro. I would not feel safe in Big Bend or the southwest most places due to the border or lack there of.

Pam, please don’t believe half of the alleged violence on the US side of our southern border. I’ve been to numerous border towns on both sides and Big Bend area is one of the safest places in all of Texas. Border patrol does a good job and if you were to run into any traveling immigrants, be sure to offer them some agua.
