  • One of the things I do here at Bright Line Eating is keep my finger on the pulse of our community and collect data, both formal and informal, on what's happening among us. In this week's Vlog, I talk about a phenomenon I've observed that could help us all during these unusual and often difficult times.

You are such a beautiful person in every sense of the word. I have been encouraged so many times over the past 4 years by your willingness to share not only the happy things in your life, but some of the difficult times also. It makes me feel more “normal”. I am usually a happy and positive person, but have had several bouts of clinical depression in my 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. My dad shot himself on the family farm I grew up on when I was 18. He was also a great guy but had a few bouts with clinical depression also and it blew my whole world up at that time. Sending you so much love.

I'm so deeply sorry for your loss. 🌷
It's so horrible how much the depression and suicide rate amongst children and adults has skyrocketed since the beginning of the lock down in March. I truly pray things get better for us all.

I feel so blessed to have found BLE before the world fell apart! I am "okay" when so many others aren't. I am shocked that suicides have increased so much! This was already an issue previously, and now, WOW. I hope that BLE will spread and give more people peace and support.

My mother in law was 84 when she chose to end her life during covid. She went 100% blind from macular degeneration, lost her social network due to distancing and fear. Part of me wonders if she would have protected her sight (if not slowed the progression) AND avoided depression had she had a healthier diet. She was a trim type 2 diabetic and never, I mean never hardly ate a vegetable. Meats, grains, breads, candy all in ‘moderation’. Such a tragedy for our family. My condolences to yours 💐

This Christmas is very hard, not being able to visit our dear ones out of responsibility, to protect them, to avoid spreading the virus. It is sad. We miss human conexion and certainty, we don't know what is still to come. But we need to keep HOPE. With that, we can get through this. We need to ask for help to hold on that hope, if not it is so easy to get depressed and finally commit suicide. Food has a big impact in our emotions. Unfortunately we tend to eat sugar, flour or alcohol when we are low and that is terrible mistake. A BLE meal heals you like medicine.

Very interesting. But this just made me feel like even more of an alien than I already do. Is it weird I wouldn't go to my friends about a mental health problem any more than I would go to them about a physical problem? If I'm sick I go to a doctor. If I'm stressed or depressed I see a counselor. I find that sharing angst with a friend does nothing except cause them stress and angst too. I guess I've never been into "group support" generally. It always just feels like a big self-pity party. And before anyone comes at me about my underdeveloped empathy: Believe me! I am aware! I was taught that independence was the greatest virtue. I guess in a way it has made me "pandemic proof". Nothing much has change for me since this started. Perhaps a little extra stress, driving a city bus and dealing with animals who refuse to mask up and protect others. Otherwise it's business as usual.

Not weird, Kristen! It's wonderful that you've developed coping strategies that work for you. Happy to hear you are managing well.
