So basically, block like a mountain and counter with a serrated rock. Got it👍

You are the stub in the wall and the pve is the drunk angery gamer who died to malenia too fast.
Dudes builds getting more and more bland

I never will get tried of hearing "In this Elden Ring Video" keep up the great work I think this is the build that I will be making to get back into Elden ring cheers for that and always thanks you so much for all the work you do on the wikis and things like that!
Also I been Loving the Morning Star alot but if there was a end game Hammer or Boss hammer any body would recommend I love to hear about it or maybe some kinda spells to go along with it later?
@@fenixstorm2165The great stars would be the only substitute. This build uses the morning star because of the blood and the great stars is just a bigger version of the former. Also, spells wouldn’t be good with this build because the weapon scales with strength alone after the heavy affinity is added.
One basic spell is “Flame, Grant me strength”. Only 15 faith needed and it ups your physical damage by 20% for 30 seconds. The old go-to Golden Vow works great too, but requires 25 faith so your stats start spreading out a bit. @@fenixstorm2165
Your builds are my favorite because they are always so complete yet leave room to expand or customize. Adding a misericorde with golden vow on it for example, or a tiny bit of faith for the QoL of access to flame cleanse me
Same! I love how he'll even shout out little changes or tweaks that you can make in his description of the build.
Been thinking of a cragblade playthrouhh, so this is perfect timing
Will you be using the Morning Star with it ?
What build are you going to use in the DLC ?
It’s the best Ash of War in my opinion.
Cragblade is def one of the best Ashes in the game but if you’re going to do a run w/ Cragblade use either a great hammer or Executioners Great Axe for the added crit bonus. You’ll def want to two hand your weapon as well for the bonus AR. Using a great shield on a Cragblade run makes zero sense IMO.
the only complaint I have about cragblade, is that it looks kinda like sh*t on a stick.
yup, sweet build. I did this as a Hero and only levelled Vigor, End, and Str. I ended up using the Eclipse Shield (mainly due to fashion) and the Warped Axe with Cragblade ❤
Eclipse shield is so drippy, once I got it to randomly drop off that guy in front of the catacombs I looked up if he dropped the rest of his set and promptly farmed the f out of it all lol
@@jasonmendoza2044 and i just found out it buffs all your resistances except the death blight one, which also happens to be the most rare. best shield
Bro! As a sword and board man, I LOVE this! Awesome work brother, as always! Could you make a NG+ version of this please??? And as always, THANK YOU SO MUCH for ALL the tremendous amounts of work and effort you put into what you do, for us, you are truly the epitome of a gentleman and a scholar! Much love from all of us! ❤
I would love for you guys to do a “how to fight” overview that covers melee fighting strategy (e.g. stance breaking, charged attacks, parrying).
I swear you seem to always know what I’m looking for with these build videos, rn I’m making characters for the DLC and I have a mage build and a Faith build all done and ready to go but I also wanted to take a pure melee focused build but couldn’t decide what I wanted to make, and this is exactly what I was looking for, thank you!
I love your build videos, I can’t get enough of them to be honest.
Just wanted to say I've been using your game progress route guide to get through the game and it's been such a great tool to ensure I don't miss NPCs or important quest objectives! This is my first Elden Ring playthrough and I just tackled the Twin Gargoyle fight and, whew, what a fight that was! Thanks for the guides and content, keep it up!
Sup, could you link this progress route please ? just started today, might need it soon :D
The Elden Builds are back baby!! Love the content Fextra, super pumped to use some of these in the DLC. Hopefully we can buy larval tears!! 😅
Named after a Demon's Souls... demon, to boot! And hopefully Larval Tears become infinite in the expansion.
The morning star and the knight set are some of my favorite items in ER, so thank you for this.
Fextra is on fuego with these builds !
One of the best builds in the game. Craigblade is so underrated, glad it's finally getting some shine.
Man, this build video just got me so hyped for the DLC. I think I might start a new run with this one. Thanks, Mr. Fex
This is my 1st ever soul's game played and your guides have been fantastic for me. I've tried numerous builds you've provided and like the ones I've used. My favorite part of the content is the themed builds from the top down. It definitely adds a level of immersed game play that you can actually connect with the build your using. Perfect!
Just finished this build, so much fun. It really trivializes a lot of the game in a satisfying way
You are absolutely my favorite content creator, the life you breath into this already robust game... Just thank you so very much
Wow, thanks!
This build is great, but a heads up for those who are on NG+2 and beyond, this build is gonna wear off pretty quickly since the enemies in high NG cycles have increased stance, specially on NG+7 (where most bosses have 40% more stance)
So good to still be getting new builds and guides from Fextra as we're hopping on the hype train until june. I'll surely be playing Bloody Ballerina into the DLC, my favorite build of all! Thanks for the guides, Fextra!
I love how OP this is while being very simple. Good build.
I love that you have started making build guides again.. I enjoyed it SO much back then, and is enjoying them again now.. I don't try them out, but I just love watching these videos... I'm not sure what all the Fextralife controversy was all about, I really hope that Asmondgolds video didn't do too much damage to your channel... I really enjoy all of your content. Great stuff guys!! Keep going 🙂
I just started a new Hero build and was debating between axes and hammers, but I guess I decided. This build looks really fun, and I'm a big cragblafe fan! Thanks for the videos as always Fextra!
Hammers are way better than axes. Not even close.
I’m glad I started watching your build guide videos, they’re giving me some good ideas and lots of fun for my new play throughs! Instead of me playing the same 3 builds each time 😭
I am loving these simple builds with early game stuff
I used a build very similar to this in my playthrough. I did it using the Great Mace. It was a themed build for the Redmane Knights (I used the Knight's Greatsword and the Partisan as well) and I primarily used it for the damage, and the 40 stance break on a charged heavy. I used the Cragblade but swapped it out for other Ashes of War simply due to boss mechanics. I used Wild Strikes, Lion's Claw, Flamestrike, Prayerful Strike, etc.. based on what was needed. I truly enjoyed this build especially with Lion's Claw pancaking enemies and dealing loads of Stance damage. I find that themed builds are so much more entertaining than meta builds. Yea, I could have used better damage swords or spears or great hammers, but it was a blast smoking Radahn and taking over his castle!
I love these kinda build. great shield and weapon with good R1 mashing capabilities. iron cleaver, hammer, stone club . They all go well with crag and roars.
I love builds like this. Generic knight guy in a world of magic and madness.
Thanks for your builds. Can't wait for the DLC and more content
I have been doing a similar build with a STR/FTH split, using the Mace instead. The Mace has hyperarmor when using it’s strong attacks, even 1-handed, which makes it a uniquely good choice for a shield using build, like this.
I tried it with Cragblade but also sacred blade and flaming strike, all AOWs that let you apply a buff to weapon, which leaves you the flexibility to have an AOW on the shield, like Barricade Shield, or Shield Bash, which can be really useful.
I created a similar build that is very complete with a stance breaking, heal and a distance option. I've been searching for complete build for a long time and I feel like this build is super fun to play and hits like a truck.
Here it is for those who are interested:
Right: Heavy Wraped Axe (S Str scaling) + Prayerful Strike (enormous hyperarmor + heal 30% per hit)
Left 1: Redmane Great Shield
Left 2: Clawmark Seal + Beast Claw + Blood flame Blade
Bull Gaot's Talisman (to never interrupt the hit + heal)
Ritual Sword Talisman (because you'll heal 30% per hit)
Green Turtle Talisman (to recover stamina quickly)
Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman or Greatshield Talisman
Full Str + Vig
It's super fun to see the enemies being smashed on the floor when you stand in front of them full life and already prepare the next hit 😂
Just farmed the Golden Greatshield and the Stone Club for something like this. Now I might take a ride and grab the Cragblade Ash.
That sounds a good combination
Definitely gonna try this build thanks!
Cragblade is fantastic and makes any weapon into a poise-breaking monster, so putting it on a hammer or any heavy stance damaging weapon just makes it that much better.
Thanks for the guide as always!
This is one piece of the “Swiss army knight” build that I’m using right now! Glad to see it validated!
HAMMER VIDEO LETS GO
looking forwards to a great hammer build/video at some point
Will give this a go tonight cheers mate!!
Just testing this one with my current run on Elden Ring. I was looking for a build to move a long way without needing to refuel so for that it works well but when surrendered by a lot of ennemies this build lack of solution. You can only run and try to defeat them one by one as the hammer lack of range. Another problem for me is for the boss that are super super big, and there is a lot of them. You won't be able to block and attack so you can only spam the simple attack or when lucky a charged one. Fun to play but I would say not so easy early in the adventure. Thanks for the build!
I really enjoy your build videos ❤.
Splashing faith to access FGMS also lets you run Bestial Vitality and Flame Cleanse Me. I would also swap the stamina talisman for the assassin’s crimson dagger.
In any event, great to see the build videos rolling through again!
I was hoping for a stance breaking build, so this is perfect!
A build with a classic look ready to take on basically everything? Let's go!
Thanks for this. Was making a build with shield crash and palisade shield but could not settle on a weapon. Morningstar and cragblade will do nicely!
Great build as always
Excited to see the great hammers video
this is some stellar work.
This kind of thought-provoking build ideas are really great. This one in particular is a very good choice to go through the DLC. Taking advantage of the guard-counter mechanic to its extreme. My only difference in this build is that I use greathammers which already have more than 40 stance damage and I use a different ash of war. For example Greatmace with royal knights resolve hits very hard due to the S scaling in STR or using Great Stars with bloodflame to increase the blood build-up even more. Also having throwing knifes in the pocket to stop bosses from regenerating stance in case you miss your swings.
Thanks again for the video. I hope to see more.
I was thinking the same but the reason why he chose the morning star was because you didnt have to ibnest much in endurance at the start of the game and with cragvlade it met the 80 stance damage requirements
@@jetstreamsam6521 yeah but great mace is only 5 pounds heavier than morning star. You still don't need to invest into endurance more than a few points. What makes a difference in weight is rather colossal weapons.
Are you still using it with (great mace) a Great Shield?
@@tattooedsailor8666 yeah. They are still good. I haven't played Elden Ring a lot in the span of the last 2 months though
@@ulysses5340 Thanks for getting back to me. I started playing ER about 3 months ago. My biggest gripe with the morning star is lack of reach. What shield and armor did end up going with? I just got the great mace and I love it. Hits like a truck!
I absolutely love your builds, they’re all so good, could you please make one for vyke’s spear next?
Super fun build! Going to try it!
New Fextralife builds, dlc HYPE
Really enjoy a basic build like this 👍🏻 I always try to factor in some bit of ranged damage if possible which is why I like my paladin build.
Morning Star is such underrated overpovered weapon....low requirements to weild, masive STANCE DMG!!!...bleed... what else you want? :D
Yeah not much reach but when you jump, it doesnt matter....
love your vids
Definitely plan on taking a Great Hammer build into the DLC. Best weapon class in the game in my opinion.
That build looks badass and a ton of fun
Hammers looks kinda funny ngl! Appreciate it for those builds ❤
I literally just got the brick hammer and I wanted to use it, this seems like it'd work for it. thank you
Love the brick hammer and it’s available early doors. That would be my choice too.
Great build, easy, effective, I love it!
Great build!! blockcounters are so beginner friendly in this game any build with them are good, not to mention that by the trailer it will probably have a enemy with a machinne crosbow in the dlc so a shield can help you there.
I absolutely love the morning star, I used it on my first playthrough, once I found it I stuck with it the whole time, doing something similar to this build but with a brass shield. Time to upgrade that character and get him ready for the dlc
love these vids
I was planning to do your Zamor Curved Sword build for the DLC, but now I want to do this one!
Ey thanks for this build, I've been using flame's taker build u did for 2-3 ending for trophy it slowly burn me out, until i stumble upon this now i can be a normal knight with shield power, thanks!
Throw in a light weight iron spear w/ spectral lance to pop off a few early stance hits from distance. Spectral lance is op against dragons with headshots as well, stance breaking them very very quickly. Underrated ash just to run around landscape with.
I just started a hero with this kind of stancebreak build. Using zweihander and medium shield atm. Very fun build and going for margrit tonight.
glad to see more people realizing how amazing hammers are in Elden Ring. Great Stars and Hammer never failed my runs.
Block counter builds are so great and i love how you can build so much stance damage on the hammer. This is a solid build to toss an ash of war on the shield too since cragblade is just for buffing purposes. Cant wait for SotE :)
Nice build, if I did it I would do it with the stone club because I just can't get over how fast that thing swings. I learned that after watching your hammers video, I thought only the club had that ridiculous attack speed
I would love to see a follow up on the royal gradesword build. love the vids!
Looks fun! I'm doing a spartan build right now. Focuses strength mainly, dex secondary.
Playing it at level 200. Quality broadsword and Partizan for the Spartan 300 look. Golden Great shield. Tree Sentinel helm, rotten pants and chest, guardian bracers. It looks so awesome. Braggarts Roar on the sword and impaling thrust on the spear. It's really fun
For your 4th talisman slot if your not worried about damage taken and just want to do more you can always slot Dagger or even Shard.
just swapped to a build like this after the hammer video! little tip you can put an ash of war to use on your shield, just 1 hand the hammer to cragblade then pull your shield back out.
Been playing with power stanced pick axes with cragblade and golden vow to buff physical damage and it is incredible. Pick axes are a very underrated weapon
I've been playing with this build for a week now, but only defeating enemies on the counter attack. Pretty fun.
I love this build, but you know what id love to see! A stance break Misericorde build! I want to have the fantasy of critting opponents over and over
Great video! I have two suggestions for builds. A NG+ with Zamor curved sword. I love twirling around. Or a build that doesn't require flasks. That could be useful when exploring the dlc.
I just had a playthrough like this but with stone club, was a lot of fun
The mace was one of my favorite weapons in DS2, so I can feel this build
Yo this is hilarious because I decided to roll a fresh character for the DLC and I basically wound up doing this exact build, except I'm using the Iron Cleaver instead of a hammer
I’ve always played def builds since ds1. I finally started trying strength builds after seeing so many of your vids on Elden ring builds. It’s just, my faith in the unga bunga is not enough, especially with guard counters. Shields just don’t work with me; my faith holds in the roly-poly.
Anyway, love the vids even after all this time; keep it up!
Simple and effective. I think I found my build for the xpac.
I played some builds with Greatshield and Hammer for some time. Most problem is the range of the Hammers and in the end Bleeding brings not that much, you can have a spear infused with Heavy and buff it with magic and you do more dmg and you can poke also from behind the shield.
I’ve never heard of this Green “Turtle” talisman. I know of the Green Dog talisman and it looks like they do the same thing.
I basically made this build for my strength character in prep for Shadow of the Erdtree, what's funnier still is instead of leaning on Cragblade, I leaned into having the strongest armor I can, still using mace and shield though, I will say this is an interesting build, and I wanna incorporate cragblade into the build now for most weapon
I just tried a shield for the first time a couple days ago, and I've been playing since release. I never knew just how good they actually were. Going to be hard going back to no shield at this point lol
Best Build I have done. Started a new toon and I am amazed how good block counters work with the large shield. On some enemies I use the partisan for a gap closer especially when they move fast. I want to try to do the noble sword build but it never drops sigh.
I'm playing through now with a modified version of this build. Same idea of using block counters and charged R2's a lot, but I lowered mind a little bit and boosted endurance some. It's powerful, but it doesn't feel cheesy. You have to really learn boss movesets to get guard counters off correctly, and when you find that rhythm it is extremely satisfying. I'm using the stone club instead of the morningstar (lacks bleed, but deals more damage and is longer) and eventually I want to pick up the fingerprint stone shield. I'm wearing the iron set covered in rock lizard skin with the bull goat talisman for 52 poise as well. I wanted to theme it all around rock and stones, and named my character The Pebble
Interesting. I might mook into stance break with cragblade more. Could also make for a fun Str/Int Build. Like a Knight that uses his Magic capability like Radahn did. Enhancing his prowess as Fighter even more. Sadly this build ain't up to my Fashion Ring and stuff. But ye. This gave me a good Idea for trying out stuff before the DLC :)
Thank you for that Cas :)
I know the ORDOVIS'S GREATSWORD is not a mace, but dang that thing also works amazing for stance damage build (82 stange damage with full chrage ash of war ) ! but amazing viedo!! :D
this is great
another tip: once you get the black whetblade you can even use cragblade with the occult affinity and swap to an arcane build for more bleed buildup and a nice boost to your item discovery! might be good for the DLC in case there are cool item drops to be found
Awesome build! I believe you can also use the barricade shield ash of war to boost your guard defence since you are using Craigblade on the main weapon
Put the morning star in 2 hands to use craigblade and then get your shield back - the buff will stay on the morning star
Who does your thumbnail art? They always nail it!
Good build. You’ll do more damage with the dagger talisman instead of the curved sword one.
I did the same with a hand axe, really good with Frost, nice Stance dmg.
Love these types of builds. I’ve had more fun using greatshields when making a conscious effort to avoid dodge rolling (and rolling in general with the shield equipped), only relying on back stepping and my shield/ashes for defense. It adds a surprising amount of tactical strategy since unless using Barricade Shield some enemies and bosses can still delete your stamina in this game.
Another idea is doing a Quality infusion for late game when there’s enough points available, or early game using the Greyoll rune farm cheese. Also fun to mix it up with a pair of cragbladed curved swords for when playing more aggressively makes sense.
Gonna combined this with your Black flame apostle build!
As a slight alteration of the setup, you can also switch to greathammer/colossal and medium shield with barricade shield. Greathammers do 40/40 on charged heavy/guard counters from the get go. From a weight perspective Greatshield+hammer is about 20-25 units while medium shield + greathammer is about 15-20 units. On average you could put on heavier armor.
Hey thnks for the advice i want to try that
You could easily mix it with the flail build as the chainlink flail is not that much heavier, set it to Cold and stil have that B scaling in STR as well as an extra status effect
