Awesome video great pictures and amazing sharpness when hitting the focus …! I wonder how the original old lens would render in comparison to that new one but couldn’t find any comparison yet. Thanks for sharing your results
Wow. Some great real world examples of what this lens can do, those first portraits had maximum swirl. Well done. Looking very healthy and well too, nice to see.
Thanks, Mark! It was a perfect day and location for swirly shots: a sunny day in a shady area with plenty of light sprinkling through the trees in the background.
I used this on my Nikon Zf and the manual autofocus works- just dial in the manual focus closely, and so long as you turn on the setting, the eye autofocus box locks on for you! Thanks for the review, lots of fun ideas and limitations.
Fantastic demo of this lens - you summed it up as a “1-2 trick pony.” Lovely models. For the price, this is no brainer. You used this focal length very well!
Phil that's a great lense. The portrait of Heather was beautiful. Tha light green did the trick with that. Very good. The price makes that very attractive. Thanks for taking us along, see you next time.
@@PhilThach or you would have to be very skilled at focus pulling which I am not :-). I am curious on how it would look on a static shot composed to show off the bokeh.
Superb review! I'm waiting for mine in the post. I've also been using TTArtisan's 100mm f2.8 for over a year now (which as you know, is a replica of the Meyer Optik Gorlitz Trioplan 100mm f2.8). I'm very happy with the soap bubbles I get on this one!
I had the original Helios 40 from 1960, which was also a CZ Biotar clone, but it was a 85mm. It was far to heavy to use often and so I sold. (I did very well on selling it ;-) ) I think after just having bouth their TTArtisan 75mm F2.0 AF for something like 180 EUR, I'm certainly going to buy this one also. The picture of your daughter against the wall in somkinf of alley is my absolute favorite. Well done.
Phil, that is a really neat lens - I LOVE the swirly bokeh. A one trick pony as you say, but it does that one trick really really well. I can see using it in a video, walking into focus on a mark, then walking out. That is really awesome. Beautiful family too. Look like your daughter is a little younger than mine. My daughter shoots and develops film and is 26, lives in Koreatown here in Los Angeles. Thank you for sharing. 🙏💖🤗
Thank you! It's an enjoyable lens. My daughter is 21. I want to try it for video at some point, too. I'm usually in a hurry when making video clips, so I can get back to working hard to get good photos. This might make it a poor fit for my workflow, but if I had the time to set up a shot like that, it would be super cool. I agree!
@@PhilThach I was thinking something like in a music video - walk into a mark that is in focus then walk past. Very cool lens. Your daughter is young still and a beautiful young lady!! 🙏🤗💖
I use this lens on my Nikon Zf. After using it for some time, it's a real bargain. The sharpness at full aperture is okay and very good at f2. This replica is impressive in sharpness and craftsmanship.
How would this lens perform with a Techart autofocus adapter? I feel like theres some motion blur in some photos and you could have used a faster shutter speed but its hard to tell lol.
I understand. I think David feels the same way about swirly bokeh so you are certainly not alone. It's not for everyone. I love it but would not want this to be the only portrait lens in my bag.
I agree that a longer focal length might have been better in some situations but it would no longer haver been a C.Z. Biotar 75mm 1.5 clone at that point.
Fantastic demonstration, Phil! The swirly bokeh from the TTArtisan 75mm f/1.5 is truly captivating. Keep up the great work!

Looks like a very cool lens Phil! The bokeh is amazing I may have to pick it up. Did you happen to try it for video? That may be interesting.
@@PhotoGearFun I haven’t tried it for video, but I might. You would have to stand very still because the depth the field is razor thin wide open.

Lovely samples it would be interesting to see how this compares to the Helios. At the same aperture to see which one is sharper

Hi Phil and Heather, have a great day 💖
You too!
Thanks
Very nice review and photos examples!

One thing to try, put the camera in burst mode and rack the focus back and fourth a little. You are bound to hit on one

What brand is your m42 LMA? have you used it with other lens? I've been on a m42 buying binge and I need a reputable brand recommendation
It is a Fotasy. I have used it with many other lenses.

I was going to ask if there was any point of getting this lens if I had a KMZ Helios 58 mm f2 but I think the results speak for themselves.
I have a couple of Helios 58 f2 lenses. I like this TTArtisan better.
OMG that Bokeh made me feel stick.
@@ianbrown704 that is interesting. I never realized that people did not like the swirly bokeh look until today, but I love it.

Still waiting someone have the CZ Biostar one for direct comparison
I wish I had one to make the comparison.
The fredmiranda alternative gear forum has a direct comparison!
Has anyone tried this on a m42 film camera?
I'm sure someone has, I haven't.
great... you show pictures of what someone would use this lens for... not just talk and specs

This lens should've been 105mm, not 75mm, Then it would be perfect even for full body portraits.
