Here's a good take on damage that i heard from a streamer one time:
Damage only matters if it leads to something. You can deal 5k damage to a 8k health tank and get nothing, or you can deal 2k damage to an adc, 1 shot them, and win your teamfight off that alone. Then there's champs like zyra and brand who can easily get high numbers just off of their items like liandrys and random poke. You can even be a tank running in 1v5 and deal damage before dying. Or your damage can get healed back by supports or any lifesteal/self-healing, rendering all the damage you just did pointless. There's a LOT of ways to pad stats for damage to the point where you should think about what your damage actually led to(kills, assists, forcing someone to recall, etc).
So yeah. You can absolutely have highest damage but did fuck all because it was all stat padding and not anything that helped with the game.
Not to that extent. There's very few games where the top dmg dealer was fully useless. Agree with everything else, and you can defenitly pad your dmgs to be like 2nd or 3rd dmg of your team and be irrelevant, but if you are the biggest dmg dealer of the game there's like i'd say 99% of chances that you were not fully irrelevant cuz you statistically don't get highest dmg of the game if you're only hitting the tank toplaner even tho it can defenitly pad your dmgs to do so.
It's pretty well self explainatory if you watch competitive games, at the end of a big fight there's generally the dmgs dealt in the fight that pop up and I'd say 90% of the time the top dmg of that fight was actually the guy that poped of.
Anyway I still agree with the statement (:

But this is just a generalization on how stats can be padded out, and not as applicable to Baus
@jzgame1 there are other factors to consider also. For example peeling vs dealing dmg, zoning enemy threats, side laning effectively. How many times have you played vs that annoying tryndamere that just split pushes, and no-one matches him and he wins the game for the other team. That player would have little dmg yet did the most to win the game. Or what about a zyra sitting back with her adc in tf to peel and protect instead of being onbthe front like trying to use her abilities for massive roots and ults. Damage is a useless stat without other context. With context it can tell you a lot. I can't tell you how many times I have to lose games because I have a bad karthus jungle who has 12 deaths and at the end of the game is pointing to how much dmg he dealt as a reason of why he didn't lose us the game. But that champion automatically does the most dmg on every team due to his passive and his ultimate. That doesn't mean he played well, in fact he is the reason we lost but in his mind, useless dmg is all that matters
What about money 🫰? Even if You do the most damage to the Wave if you don't last hit it's pretty useless

I do think that if u have higher deaths there is a d chance you have most damage just because youre engaging in fights more often. Espescially on a tankier champ not always the case on adc esque champs. Love seeing your sion games

@@KrioKenz What's your point lol, it has nothing to do with what he's saying as far as I can tell. You can have a good game and make no mistakes and be top damage, but his statement doesn't apply to every person always, it applies to the people that use the damage stat as a crutch to justify their poor gameplay, nothing to do with kill count.

Provided you are satisfying additional objective with your deaths (turrets, wave clearing, taking out priority targets, etc) then a low KDA means nothing. You don't win by killing the enemy, you win by killing the nexus.

of course dmg is relevent, its the most important thing after turret dmg, but the point was that you always deal most dmg since u take every fight and trade, therefore you get the most dmg

i would like to add teemo to the list. so many times i see teemos with 100k dmg loosing their game because..well, they are teemo.
Stats are contextual. Dmg to champs means a great deal at times and less at other times. It’s never irrelevant and it’s never the sole determination of one’s usefulness.
I don't think this necessarily applies to your playstyle in general, but it is good to be able to recognize impotent damage aka damage padding where maybe you have the high damage because you played incorrectly, such as taking fights solo you shouldn't have while your teams turtling. Or damage that's spread out amongst too many targets that shows a lack of keeping focus when necessary etc. It's a hole in people's games they often don't address because of the positive reinforcement of seeing "my number is high so therefor it is good".
