      I focus a lot on history and economics. I know one of the issues keeping bicycles from being of any real use during the world wars were their poor performance off roads which is mitigated by modern gearing. They're also really cheap to produce so you could potentially put a full army on those things if not simply to help long marches or use them to help carry cargo with proper saddling. Electric bicycles also add extra power to the mix while also being low fuel use even if they're more expensive due to the rare earth required for batteries.

    • @beorntwit711
      @beorntwit711 2 года назад

      There's a doctoral thesis (or whatever they call it) available online by some US staff officer, examining the potential of bicycle units, and of course, going through their history of use in combat (a few actions by Brits, Germans, and of course, Japanese Malaya). And their ability to cross countryside (you can push them, like the vietcong did to great success).
      Now, this was before special alloys/All terrain bike revolutionary changes to bicycles.
      Over foot infantry, they have a great advantage. But all the nations could already afford motorised vehicles, so the domain of usefulness for them today is razor thin - light infantry only.

Now dirt riding you won't be going over 30ish mph almost that much giving you even batter range. And with drones you could have them drop batteries 🔋 in the feld or have a gas utv carrying a ton of them. Trust pev's are "there" already. The only big downside isn't range but price of batteries

      @peterrichards1058 2 года назад +3

      Advantage are limited and many more disadvantages come to mind . These disadvantages such as recharging batteries ,range load capacity mechanical failures will always hit when equipment is most needed to perform and on the battle field using this technology. In the real world away from concept trials in controlled environments is where equipment like this will fail first before a ton of money is injected into it and in most cases wasted before a proven concept is realistic.
      This concept has many flaws and will lack range without additional support from conventional technology already proven in the battle space on many operational capabilities and systems platforms. I qualify my comments as a former solider of many years service and operational experience. This technology is a far cry from ready for real world use away from controlled training environments. In the real world of battle there will be no techs on hand to fix issues inot seen in this cheesy promotion.
      We as nation are a small Defence force and we should be spending our money on more drone tech with ability for RE supply, transport, recon and provide real fire support to the troops on the ground and leave the electric toys to the kids.

      It’s maybe even more impressive that during WW1 between 1915- 1918 when Australia’s population was only 4.8 million, smaller than Melbourne today, 416,000 Australian men and 2,500 women volunteered to fight. Of that number 330,000 served overseas in northern France, Belgium, Sinai and Palestine and at Gallipoli. About 250, 000 of them served in France of which 48, 000 are still buried there after just 2 years of fighting on the Western Front. It’s amazing that every Aussie that fought in WW1 was a volunteer. The only all-volunteer army to fight in WW1 in the world. The men were very proud of that fact.

      Better planning would mean not crossing it and going further to avoid it. A change in environment is the the perfect ambush position especially channeling effects of water obstacles. Recon with drones would assess that danger long before a more reliable ICE technology motorbike got there and avoid the obvious.
      The what if is what would happen if the battery had water ingress and fails and weight of additional batteries was not an option ,because there are mission essentials with a higher priority required.
      Traditional ICE technology can carry far more and be fixed in the battle space unlike this tech toy ,which has too many critical vulnerabilities in the real world.

    As I see it don't have fully functional pedals, only footrests? Why? I think, soldiers still should have the capability to cycle if the battery is dead\electronics is EMP'ed
