Kai Sotto injury update vs. Georgia: in hospital, awaits X-ray results
Kai Sotto taken to hospital to have rib injury checked. Gilas Pilipinas made history by advancing to the semifinals of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in Riga, Latvia, after their game against Georgia on Thursday.However, the team faced a setback when they lost one of their core players, Kai Sotto, to injury. Sotto played just 12 minutes before leaving the game in the second quarter after Orlando Magic center Goga Bitadze landed on him, forcing Sotto to exit early.Following the game, coach Tim Cone provided an update on Sotto's condition.
We lost Kai Sotto early. Never got him back into the game. He is in the hospital, checking out his rib. It's an X-ray. We don't have any news yet on whether he will be able to go forward," Cone said during the post-game conference.
Before his injury, Sotto scored 4 points in his brief time on the court.To advance, Gilas Pilipinas needed either a win or a loss by no more than 18 points in their game against Georgia on Thursday. The Philippines achieved this by losing by just 2 points, 96-94, which allowed them to progress due to a better points difference over Georgia, finishing second in their group.
