We already have PCIe 5 SSD that can read/write at 15GB/sec speeds. Even "home server" class machine available to enthusiasts can fit 4-8 of these SSDs and get 60-120GB/s. Sift through 1TB dataset in 8 seconds, big data of yesteryear, faster than you can spawn a task on a spark cluster, lol. Servers can get up to 32TB RAM -- how many companies have more data than that?
Informative, inspiring(*) and actually funny, too. Well done(**.. (*) wrt everything has been there for a while, and we running hype cycles around it, which ofc does not only apply to databases, but on app developer side of things, too… (**) also, as a graph person, I am gonna leave your bike alone, too :)
He explained hadoop and no SQL and why it exists better than my school did lol
Awesome talk. If there were "intelligent" extraterrestrial civilizations out there, would they have invented the relational model/systems?
fantastic!
spot on
