The first time I heard this, it took me straight back to 1988, I'd split up with the "Dragon" she kicked me out with my sleeping-bag and truck fridge. I spent the next 3 months working for a company that had "as much work as I could do". A personal best of 106 1/2 hours without sleep (all work) truck broke down or I'd have done more. This song is like a window in to my life those three months.
4:38 This is a real tribute to those of us that kept the country fed clothed and supplied while you were sleeping on a big fluffy pillow there were men and women working around the clock to bring to the markets and stores what you needed for everyday life I was one of them
She Is Absolutely AmazIng !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And......................... One Handsome woman toooo !!!!!!!!!!!!!! A match made from somewheres else in the universe for sure
Praise You brother I feel you. I played this so many times on My Guitar and saying it and people tell me it's good. And now I have a boss RC 30 loopr I don't have a beautifulTif to sing with me so I will do my best on my own I do have a ukulele a couple of guitars and a Looper pedal I'm going to try to have fun I worship this song in this performance
This man really is one incredible singer-songwriter. His songs of this sort----good lord---they sure are both beautiful and so bitterly painful at the same time---just like this life itself is. Such a sad thing that this man, who for the better part of 40 years or so--has run it hard to make a living playing the thing that he was put on this Earth to do---write and perform some damn fine REAL MUSIC. He surely did find a great life's partner in Tiff Gin--they really are "made for each other." We should all be so lucky to find out what we were made for and to find a great partner to go along for the ride.....
***** When they perform as a duo, they bring a whole new level of intensity to the songs they sing. It's wonderful. Mind you, if I was listening in a bar, with a few pints inside me, I'd almost certainly prefer the whole band banging it out !!!
Love this song i drove around for years with my wheels not touching the ground had massive stroke cant drive now but i would do it all again❤ keep on trutruckin
The first time I heard him do this song was in Albuquerque at The Cooperage. He did it as the encore...solo...you could have heard a pin drop. Some were crying it was so good.
This hits home I remember those days run for days and not even know what day it was or where you had been the weeks before lost a lot of friends and teeth along the way I sure miss them both I’m still Running the roads but it’s not as fun as is used to be ….. Thank You Fred for bringing back the memories !!!!
This kind raw and sparse beauty is all too rare these days. There is an etherealness to the real lived pain conveyed all too powerfully. The mark of a true artist. Thank you Fred Eaglesmith! And yes, Tiff's back-up is amazing, . . . an intrinsic part of this moving performance.
Thanks Fred for coming into my life musically. I grew up in a rural southeastern IN town and personally relate to all to your music and truly appreciate your insight on machinery and life. Look forward to seeing you again soon. signed: another Fred Head forever.
Fred, you've worked hard, has earned your respect, paid your dues but not respected or known as you deserve. Your Multi- talented, don't much follow main stream crap and write from experience with heart and soul! Stand up and take a bow handsome! I keep missing your Alberta tour, but, dying to see you in person! I was introduced to your sound and instantly fell you, by another musician who is driven and finally jumped all the life hurtles and can now spread his wings do what he's always wanted...tour and sing. Fred, you are one of his biggest inspirations, because of that man, I follow you and make my peeps hear you too. Keep on truckin' music man! I love you!
Miss Tiff...a hauntingly beautiful duo...i am a better person for having viewed this video...MrE Smith you are hands down the best ballad singer out there...GOD BLESS YOU BOTH...
Great to hear you both again as a duo, just like you did in East Grinstead! Tif comes across really strong on this version with her vocals. All time great trucker ballad
Best version ever I love singing this song and play it on the seagull 6 string guitar. I live in West Jordan Utah if I could only find someone to play the ukulele to it I have the uke but I can only play one of them at a time
I was surprised that this wasn't in their acoustic set when I saw them in an intimate venue last weekend. That's OK though, I bought "6 Volt" from Tif at the swag table afterward, and they both signed it. That show made Fred Heads out of my wife , son, and his gf.
Tif gin....Fred YALL just gr8 TOGETHER...at one time because of my hearing....I thought her name was TEN SHUN...LIKE..tension...!....I'm damn neer deaf....but anyhow ..y'all are gr8 together
Every canadian holds a certain amount of shame for this icon to have to "scratch" a living down in the states. My mission in life is to see him get the recognition he dam well deserves.
Years later March 1st 2022 still one of the best. If you're having trouble playing wilder than her like I was it is because you're not putting the Capo on the 2nd fret and then play E B A
1:16 it's like he his memory drifted back to that girl and he took a little toot of the trucker speed. Maybe I'm reading too much into his expression but then again maybe not?
After much study, I have concluded that Tif Ginn does edge out Fred in the looks department (sorry, Fred) but what a beautiful sound they make together. I'm an idiot because I haven't seen them live on stage yet. Just looked on Fred's website and don't see any tour dates for 2023 at all. I hope Fred tours this year, with whatever accompaniment he comes up with.

Always going to see Fred with interesting vintage guitars. He buys and sells I believe. She is playing a Kala Resonator Tenor Ukelele. God knows what he's playing. Gibson or Epiphone? f-hole arch top sunburst with a bigsby whammy bar. Probably added. That guitar looks like 30s.
That right there............... Is some funny shit !!!!!!!!!!!! Ain't but a handfull of us............ Know about the "Terminal Market" !!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the memories Mr truck Driver !!!!!!!!!!!
Just when I think I've seen it all and there will be no more surprises, I stumble across someone like this. Cigarette Machine is one of the best songs I've ever heard. Your Sister Cried? I mean...C'mon! That's some genius right there!
i have been going to see him live for years in Texas----BEST live show-----Texas made him an honorary Texan because he embodies the same work ethic as all the great Texas musicians
Well he ain't Dutch but Frisian ... maybe a Dane is in there somewhere ... saw his Amsterdam concert last May, one of the most sympathetic guys in the music business, go and see him if you get the chance.
While this is a great song, it is a stunningly blatant rip off of the Bob Dylan penned song, Wagon Wheel, Rock me Mama.... made famous by Darius Rucker, and which Old Crow Medicine Show also do a wonderful version. It's funny that nobody yet has noticed, that I have talked too. And I also see no comments as such. But now I have said it, you won't be able to unhear it. Go listen to the other versions and come back. rock me mama like a wagon wheel..
Sure, but you are only one mouse click away to something better.. This is just a little fun thing to the real fans. Fred would probably say.. GO (F#) SCREW YOURSELF.....!!!!
Still gets to me. This is the favorite version of my all time favorite song. Devastating.
Still listening 7 years later
I've said it before and i will say it again God bless Fred Eaglesmith...wherever he is!
Tonight he was in Toronto, and he was fantastic.
Last Friday he was in Pembroke and he was amazing

Tiff's backing vocal really is great here, and her playing is wonderful...these two are a force of nature.

God damn i got the chills with her back up vocals. Can't believe I'm just hearing this version. Absolutely amazing!
It really is a beauty version of a great song. Cheers
The Resonator Uke. WOW! Talent right here, folks.

This song is a anthem thank you for sharing it
“I’ve been High centered and low throttle, when I couldn’t stop i peed in a bottle.” Might be the greatest lyrics ever written.
Welcome home Fred! Nice to see you getting back up to speed. Hat's off to Tif Ginn. Love it.
Notice how the camera man keeps zooming in on the beauty. Good camera work.
Love Fred Eaglesmith...great writer singer performer
Desperation. Longing. Pathos. Weight. And yet her voice is so full of beauty, and understanding.... it draws me up.
I got to meet tif many years ago at floyds farm in kansas. Prettiest blue eyes I've seen.
