Frogman…. From one vet to another. Thanks for this wonderful info you are putting out here to help others such as myself. You are hitting the nail on the head and we sometimes have to go back to the basics and you never let us down. Man. Keep the content coming. No matter how much we think we know…..we can always learn something no matter how many times we have done this or think how good of a shot we are. God bless brother.
It’s already been mentioned, grip does in fact matter. As it relates to quick accurate follow up shots. The student must have a solid consistent platform in which to understand and identify undue lateral influence at the trigger. You ask 5 different students what is “jerking” the trigger? You’ll 5 different answers. Generally we introduce lateral influence at the trigger. You are right, a lot of instructors fail to teach in context.
This totally makes sense, thanks for posting! Breaking it down to 2 components in context with that chart is gonna be super helpful, can’t wait to try this out.
Appreciate this video on grip brotha. For years, I was so stinking focused on grip and still wasn’t getting the results I had hoped for. It’s all I heard as a new shooter and it frustrated me immensely. I finally realized it wasn’t my grip. Prepping the trigger for me was the issue. Taking it to the wall wasn’t enough. I still had play. Learning my trigger, how to take it to the point of break was key for me.
Thank you! For teaching us the proper way! I am believe that knowing is half the Battle! ( Yes! It's a direct quote from the GI Joe 1980s cartoon) and that slow is smooth and smooth is fast! And to know the right way is a better for survival! Once again thank you for telling us this! So we can be better!
Nice info there man. Only one thing i feel you neglected to mention. Where 'proper' grip really matters is getting those holes on paper(or you know.... whatever) fast. Sure, with proper fundamentals as long as you keep your sights aligned and never disrupt them you will hit your target even if you shoot on one leg and holding the gun in two fingers. But the gun will take a long time to recover and allow another accurate shot.

Not being picky but your two-finger was actually a one-finger grip with help from the thumb. nice shooting. great video with reliable information and no BS.
Hey Jason thanks for the great vid. I also watched your other grip video. I'm finally mastering trigger discipline but have a couple questions on support grip: - for support hand, I like the high and forward approach you use. I have large hands and longer fingers. Doing this method my pointer finger then needs to wrap around FRONT of trigger guard for there to be room for it. This is even on a full size pistol like XDME. I think I saw that a bit on your previous video. Is that correct? - when I do the above, the pointer finger wraps around far enough on the other side to where it seems to interfere with me inserting my trigger finger. thoughts? Keep up the great work. Appreciate any comments you provide. Your support hand grip really seems to stabilize the pistol recoil for me.
I hate it when i squeeze that little bit as I pull the trigger. I catch myself doing it and its usually after Im good and warmed up too. My best shots are 1st ones .....I guess I get lazy.
Thanks for the info. I play fingerstyle guitar which explains a bit. I kinda learned to shoot with my right hand doing everything and left just there for stability and recoil. Works fine.

Hey boss, I was lucky enough to train with a D boy OTC instructor. 1 - I was told my trigger hand should do nothing but pull the trigger and my overlap hand does all the gripping. Is this correct? 2 - as a south paw (or wrong handed shooter) Ha! I was consistently pulling shots down to the left. Your video is awesome and I think can correct me. However, how do you determine which hand is pulling your shots?
You can do that but I grip tightly with both hands. Low left as a left handed shooter you are tightening your fingers while you pull the trigger. Watch the most recent video. Isolate your grip from your trigger pull.
For us lefties the chart would be reversed?Get video I believe you just helped me with shooting as I could not figure out why my shots go to 5 o’clock time to time. Thank you.
Thanks for this dope video. The problem I'm having as a right handed shooter is that when the trigger breaks, my sights move to the left, not low left though. So if i was aiming for the bullseye, I would hit just to the left of it. I'm wondering if that's me tightening my grip or what.
1. Your misaligning due to opposite eye dominance which is common. (If you are right handed and left eye dominant, watch my Eye Dominance video to learn how to correct it) 2. Your sights are slightly off. 3. You are thumbing (pushing into the frame with your thumbs as you pull the trigger. That’s the only reasons it goes directly to the 9 o’clock.

I had an issue the other day... Double action on a p226 pro, right hand shooter hitting about 4 o'clock. I plan on getting a lighter DA spring kit but any ideas... Maybe that heavy pull? I'm dead on with a striker fire
No, 4 o’clock impact right handed is you tightening your hand down which locks the gun to the 4 o’clock position prior trigger breaking over. Similar to the 7:15-8:30 in this video. This is due to a weak trigger finger based on your DA/SA. Don’t get a lighter spring. Strengthen your finger by doing DA dry fire. Same concept as this video. Tighten your grip some and isolate your grip from the trigger pull. Make sense?
