I was raised in a Pentecostal Church and cannot remember a time that hymn was not part of my life. I was six years old when I accepted Jesus as my Savior.
I’m almost 80 now and was saved when I was 12. This was the song that was played when I went forward that Sunday night. Thank you Jesus for sending The Holy Spirit to touch my life. All you gave me is still so powerful.
When I was young in the 70's we sand the hymns for offering , the Praise and Worship and The Word . Today it's not a Sunday service but a rock concert.. Hymn writers waited upon the Lord and penned the songs . " Just as I Am "" my favourite
We sang this at my grandfathers funeral.. I cried every time I heard it for years after. It still, 30 years later, brings back the beautiful memories of my grandpa.
I grew up down south, in the state of Georgia in the U.S., Baptist background. This song was often used as an "invitational hymn" at the end of the service, when the pastor would give altar calls for people to give their hearts to Jesus. The Holy Spirit speaks through the words even today to woo our hearts to Jesus.
When Billy Grahm specials would come on tv,my mom would watch and i would be in my bed and i would listen to this song.im 64 yrs old now and it still touches my soul so deeply, always brings tears of joy.Thank You Jesus,Amen
I was raised in the Presbyterian Church. My strongest memories of this hymn is the Billy Graham crusades. At the end of the sermon people from the audience were invited to come to the front and receive blessings and further guidance. This hymn was always played and it was powerful. Billy is gone now but he has inspired so many to embrace Christianity.
Such an emotional hymn. It touched my heart and as I wept, I stood up and accepted Jesus as my Savior. I was 11 years old. It’s so personal to me that I consider it my testimony.
So relevant in this day & age when we desperately need a Christian Revival. Even those of us who call ourselves Christians need to humble our selves & surrender to God anew. Thank you Luke.
Very touching song .This is song composed from God’s hand . After so many years and so many people sing ,cry and give the Life to CHRIST ….THANK YOU LORD FOR INSPIRING Mrs Charlottes for this wonderful MELODY and song who continue to touch million’s hearts.
This song was sung often in our church when I was a child. After the sermon was over, there was usually an invitation to come to the alter and accept Jesus as your Savior. As I recall, this was always the song that was sung for the invitation.
I gave my heart to Jesus in 1963 at age 12 at a Youth for Christ Rally in Cleveland, Ohio where a Billy Graham movie was shown and this song was sung at the end. It was the most important moment of my life - it changed it for eternity.
Always played during Alter calls at church when I was young, almost 60 years ago I was born again hearing it as I went forward, I don't remember ever not knowing I was a sinner and Jesus was the Savior, so I went forward many times as a very small boy feeling FATHER'S holy spirit calling me! Still my favorite song today, still brings tears of joy 😊
The amazing and unchanging love of God the Father is greatly shown... which inspires any sinner to come to God and not go far or farther away from God...
Awesome song. The words are amazing and very touching. I learned about Jesus from a very young age, watching my mum down on her knees 🙏by her bedside. I love God and Jesus with my whole heart ❤ I love this hymn so much Patricia Mackay
My memory is of Billy Graham services, also, that would broadcast on tv as a child. I remember that “feeling” bc of this song along with apparently many others as they came to the altar…hundreds…and this made a mark on heart and in my mind. I wanted to sing this for a service and saw Mahalia did a rendition of this too💜wow!!! Thanks for the history of it
The Holy Spirit led me to your page just this morning, and I can’t seem to stop singing along, and share you to my friends. Thank you!! And Thank You, Jesus🙏🙏🙏
Luke, I can honestly say I don’t have any memory of this hymn, so hearing it today was a first. It’s so meaningful. I love hearing the History behind all these songs. Thanks.
Thank you for this video. Yes we come to Christ with nothing- i.e., as beggars. As one divine put it, "The Gospel is nothing but one beggar telling another where to find food!" Praise the LORD! 😢
I love this song sooo much especially this version and how it's sang. Growing up we sang it in a different melody, but this melody is the one that scoops the meaning of The Blood of Jesus and what it must represent in our lives.
❤ I did not know that BILLY GRAHAM was converted himself during the singing of this hymn. I have always associated this hymn with Dr Billy Graham . It was in the Billy Graham Song book used in our Baptist’s Church but also of course in every hymn book. Thankyou Luke for the history of the hymn and Charlotte Elliot. I love that through her hymn she raised more money than any other for her brother’s school but more wonderful is that her words have brought many into the kingdom of God down through the ages. To God be the glory . GREAT THINGS He has done.
Luke I am amazed how continuously I learn touchingly from your sharing the history you searched studied of besutiful written hymns poems Truly love this song tonight Just As I Am 13:27 Didn't know why written I too due to kidney blood diseases I struggle no longer able to feel productive relying on others for most everything it's hard finding no purpose thankful Grateful others do care kind Compassionate physicians just can't seem to express as desired Words stated written over and over Unknowns Unfortunates No Cures No known treatments Faith God knows His words he came because of divers diseases To learn Billy Graham whom i loved to loved this song had a huge influence brought him closer to God even more touching your words very articulate With stressing God Chtist Christians needing Your works are God directed Know your listening to Gods directions helping many Of us bedridden illed Bodies Souls find solice Thank you Bless you 2 2024 Ashwednesday 2 14 24 Thank you Lord
I may have heard 'Just As I Am' long before my first memory of its impact, but here is that memory. It impacted me most while watching the Gaither video "A Billy Graham Homecoming. In this video, Cliff Barrows shared his memory of a crusade held in the 50s in England. The press had published the opinion that the emotion behind "Just as I am" is what caused people to come forward to receive Christ. This greatly troubled Billy Graham, so he instructed Barrows to not sing or have the musicians play Just As I Am" until given the cue to do so. When the invitation portion of each service came, Graham instead prayed, asking The Lord to work in hearts, and for those who felt the call to come forward. To make a long story short, the hymn was not played for the 30 days of the Crusade, more than 1000 people accepted Christ and the press was forced to retract as fully as they ever do. More than a decade after hearing this, this hymn still impacts my heart in the same way: it inspires thankfulness that God has invited, accepted, forgiven and redeemed me. It also inspires a need to impact nonbelievers in the way that God has called me to help bring about their prayer of salvation.
I heard this sung in Newfoundland , where my sister, Sr Pat Flynn SOS was a nun and taught in St Juliens. Was very touched by the hymn, and am still thrilled to hear it.
What an amazing woman! I have been surprised lately at just how many beautiful Christian hymns were written by women in the 1800's and early 1900's. At least, in the Christian world of hymns, women were treated as equal and this helps ease my pain where, as a woman, I see the inequality between women and men every day. I just love this hymn. Thank you, Luke.
We were thought this song in Primary school…Although I was very young by then it has left a long lasting impact on my soul. Just as I am without one plea🙏🙏
No one getting saved under that hateful Pastor Luke and his wife. No mercy shown and it has continued in the present. I can’t help Lord. You must change. I can’t. Help. 😢
I was raised in a Pentecostal Church and cannot remember a time that hymn was not part of my life. I was six years old when I accepted Jesus as my Savior.

My husband had told me. He wanted this sang at his funeral. In 2021 we did honor his wishes.

Such an emotional hymn. It touched my heart and as I wept, I stood up and accepted Jesus as my Savior. I was 11 years old. It’s so personal to me that I consider it my testimony.
That was very touching to read. God bless you.
Just as I am without one plea I come to you O My GOD, by the blood of Jesus Christ I am cleansed, and received a new life in Christ
Remember this song played when I was a little boy at Grace Gospel Church in Huntington, WV, during the altar call.
I am a Zambian and Methodist. This hymn is a blessing to me and the church of Christ. I have sung and loved this hymn over 35 years.

Such a great song based on beautiful person's effort.
My most favourite hymn. I first heard the song when I joined high school in 1982
@Luke Powell, thank you for sharing the story.. I have always been drawn to this hymn and it makes sense because of the human condition.
The amazing and unchanging love of God the Father is greatly shown... which inspires any sinner to come to God and not go far or farther away from God...

Words that mean as much today as when written. Praise our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ!
