In 10th grade I got a very pleasant surprise when my 5th period class attended an optional assembly in the auditorium and it turned out to be Stanley Jordan (class of 1977) performing solo. That I had just gotten high during lunch didn't hurt.
Not sure how I'm just now discovering this, but glad I did...Terrapin has been stuck in my head all day for a week. Going through some tough times & glad to find some joyful music to bring me back to Earth.
If this is touching you, definitely go back and listen to Jerry deliver this song with The Grateful Dead, he is The Storyteller. Many exceptional versions, 1/11/78 is a favorite, any live version from the 70's highly recommended. Welcome aboard.
The chick on the piano is freaking brilliant. The main criticism of the album, as I recall, was that section, all with a symphony orchestra. She does the whole thing herself, and far better than the original. Yea, I am on the bus with Holly Bowling.
Robert Hunter was the Poet Laureate of the Dead. Oh, but that dash between the years, 1941-2019. You left us to soon, Sir. Thank you for the gifts you gave us. Fare thee well...
Beautiful tribute to this Majestic song! Hunter and Garcia birthed it together while apart. How fitting this tribute does the same. Happy to see it ends with Holly, near the Richmond Bridge, then Lebo, Stu, Ezra, & Murph at High Sierra. Local masters, torchbearers all❤️💪⚡️🌎🙏✌️
I remember being at the first performance of Terrapin in San Bernadino in 77 and going like wo what is this . Been on of my most favorites all these years .
i was going to play the 2015 remastered studio version for the first song people would hear as they start to arrive at my wedding on the 3rd before seating, then i saw this. I hope the passion will find its way from these voices and instruments into the lives of those who attend my event. I was thinking well maybe i should actually play the dead, but i mean arent we all dead anyway ;) keep the fire alive, only love
Easily one of the best things I've seen on RUclips. Stanley Jordan, absolutely amazing, Holly Bowling is very sweet by the bridge, and all the bands hit the mark. Well done.
This is an awesome collection of musicians who have spent many hours learning and playing extremely well one of my Dead faves.....I would love to see this as a touring show.......
I apologize, but I've never been a Deadhead. However, this tune is so damn beautiful I keep returning for my fix. This particular effort is of the highest quality & the production value is totally incredible. Thanks!
These musicians truly seamlessly did justice to Garcia's and Hunter's masterpiece, their styles and nuances compliment each other.....I cannot stop listening to this wonderful composition!
Jeff Rosenberg i saw Les Paul play two guitars the battle hymn of the republic and dixie on the other I thought that was incredible well it still is I have trouble playing one
My hat is off to the producer of this gem. My heart is full. My ears delighted. I have the answer to the question I’ve been asking since 2016. “What ever made America great?” All these talented and wonderful musicians who bring us joy! They are what makes this country great! I salute them all!
Such excellent performances. I have to say that I forget Pete Sears is a pretty darn good bass player! Also, I will have to go back and view some of the Stanly Jordan sets with Phil! He is amazing with one hand on the guitar! Holly Bowling, of course, is amazing. I love the different settings, from Jake Peavey's flat (presumably) to the sets at the music festival to, of course, Ms. Bowling outside! Her recent videos from Tahoe, etc. are striking. Plus STUUU and Lebo with a Townsendesque flourish to end the jam. Very nice work by all involved. Thanks again for doing this wonderful tribute.
I agree Robert Hunter deserves the Nobel prize! Right along with Jerry! All the performers in this Terrapin station medley are friggin amazing!! His job is to shed light and not to master
I am one of the ancient souls that physically wasn’t born into this self yet when this masterpiece was created! These lyrics and many other dead songs have quite literally told the story of my spiritual awakening and Tuman into my inner power and my light! I love you all
I have wondered for some time if anyone other than the Dead could pull this off, or at least attempt to. Today I found out with no words I can add except "Thank you for putting this brilliant video together and sharing with us"
Stanley Jordan & Holly Bowling were the stand out from the crowd, outstanding contributors on this fun collage of music. From a deadicated deadhead and a bit of a purist as well. Thank you all. musicians and the cat who posted this gem.
That whole thing was sofa king awesome, but I had to go back and look at 'Lebo and Friends', yes, that's Stu Allen,. He's my friend. He told Melvin to let me sing with them, and it got recorded. My most prized possession. Tell Stu I said Hello~ :-)
This so beautiful that its hard to not cry. This song is definitely one with such a great emotional feeling, the lyrics are wonderful, deep and magic, the music is a master piece, one of the greatest songs of the human existence!
I knew Jerry from the old days at the Dead House where Everybody was welcomed and Everything was shared! After Reagan ran all the people out of the Haight with the National Guard,I would run into him from time to time around the Bay area. And I would end up riding around with him in his Mercedes. "Jerry, why are we riding around like this and not going anywhere?" Jerry said, I have to do it like this because wherever I go people recognize me and a crowd gathers around me. Why are thousands of people following me around from all over the country? I don't get it I can't understand it! Why me? And he would shake his head. Maybe the answer is we are all going to Terrapine Station Jerry! Jerry, I love you and all the Dead Heads! This Vibe is Eternal ! It will never ever die!
in 2024, still wonderfull
Totally
Tears were shed. The words to this song are some of Robert Hunters
finest work. This music will resonate through time and eternity.
...and if you're lucky, you can sing along with a few thousand friends at a great show.
@@deich31 I feel very blessed to have seen The Grateful Dead perform this and yes i got to sing along with about 80K friends.
Well said wonder! The terrapin that stands out for me was at Compton terrace(Phoenix) circa mid 80's. Hunter was a wordsmithing genius RIP.
I agree
Amen to that, brother.
Stanley Jordon brought tears to my eyes he is on another level
In 10th grade I got a very pleasant surprise when my 5th period class attended an optional assembly in the auditorium and it turned out to be Stanley Jordan (class of 1977) performing solo. That I had just gotten high during lunch didn't hurt.
Railroad Earth handles that hard transition perfectly. No mistakes.
They are awesome!
@@Deadbuck73 oh man I'm feeling it hard.... also soft.
Yes, Railroad Earth and Holly Bowling handle the two toughest passages of the song so skillfully.
The compass always points to Terrapin
The chick on the piano is freaking brilliant. The main criticism of the album, as I recall, was that section, all with a symphony orchestra. She does the whole thing herself, and far better than the original. Yea, I am on the bus with Holly Bowling.
Robert Hunter was the Poet Laureate of the Dead. Oh, but that dash between the years, 1941-2019. You left us to soon, Sir. Thank you for the gifts you gave us. Fare thee well...
Amen. Right about now, Hunter is co-creating new tunage w/ Capn Trips somewhere betwix the timbers and the backwash of Fennario.
That's a fairly average lifespan. I'd say he did well.
MASTERPIECE ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I love that part of this was filmed by the Richmond San Rafael bridge....Garcia conceived this tune while driving across that same bridge!
OMG the voice on Railroad Earth's percussionist.... Beautiful.
Beautiful tribute to this Majestic song! Hunter and Garcia birthed it together while apart. How fitting this tribute does the same. Happy to see it ends with Holly, near the Richmond Bridge, then Lebo, Stu, Ezra, & Murph at High Sierra. Local masters, torchbearers all❤️💪⚡️🌎🙏✌️
I’m a gonna start my everyday with this medley and see where it takes me 😊
🥰🥰🥰
I remember being at the first performance of Terrapin in San Bernadino in 77 and going like wo what is this . Been on of my most favorites all these years .
Wow!
Somewhere, you just know, Jerry is smiling!
Jason Debly For Sure, Major Smile!
♥ ♥ ♥
😭
...and tapping his feet
He's finally allowed to just chill out. (We love you Jerry).
Grateful Dead will never ever fade away 🌹❤️
Where is Robert Hunter's Nobel prize?
We all passed it around and smoked it. Where were you?
That was the Humboldt peace pipe prize. Nobel only gives a medal & loot.
deich31 no joke...
This is one of those comments that you wish you could like a million times~
He deserved one. Ingenious! Like the bards of Olde.

That was gorgeous. Stanley Jordan, I had no idea he had chops like that.

Sounds like a plan!

You just did~ :-) Sing along and it'll be even better~
That is an amazing idea!!!
Bravo! This is fantastic, and takes us to Terrapin in so many ways. Gotta love Stanley Jordan's simultaneous guitar & piano on At a Siding!
This is lovely, all the way around.
