    Love this topic, Bryn! I decided to start the journey of becoming an architect at 42. For the next 6 solid years, I juggled a family, full time job, getting my masters, interning on the side, passing the ARE, and getting licensed. I then left my job and started my own firm. I’m now 49, am working my tail off, but I’ve designed my own life, am learning and being challenged every day, and am finally in control of my future.

      Wow! You are an inspiration. I have a degree in Visual Design focused on Branding and Packaging, Interactive Design UX/UI for Web & Phone App Design, and Motion Graphics. Recently got hired at an architecture firm as a designer but deep down I always wanted to study architecture. I’ll be 42 in a few months and I really want to venture on a new academic path and get my degree in architecture. It seems daunting but here I am researching because I really want to go for it. Congratulations to you for going for it. I don’t know you but I’m proud of you. I really hope I get things rolling myself. Fall semester starts in a few weeks and I’m really really leaning towards going after my new dream of becoming an architect.

    Hey Bryn. Great topic and timeline...I love a hand drawn concept. Today, I'm 54 and studying a degree in Architecture with a fabulous group of young students. I have a degree in Interior Architecture though following a 14-year pre-children career (not in Architecture or construction) I took time away from deadlines and full-time work to suit my family's needs and partner's work hours. Although I have little industry exposure, I have years of life, creative, corporate, sales and social experience. Life is an upward spiral...I'll never stop learning or growing. It can be challenging to change paths though if you live each day exploring your passion life will flow.

    I am 35 and just finally pulled the trigger on this a year ago, its beyond strange being in a classroom with people 15-17 years younger than me since the last time I was in the environment everyone was just like me lol. Also, weird things like how to deal with a school bully at 35 lol. Basically, I got stuck working in restaurants all my 20's and trying to be a chef, worst mistake ever, all I got from that is a bad drinking problem, broken hip and knee. It is hard but I see acceptance of I'm to old or not good enough as not an option!

    Thank you! I'm 46 and about to take my first exam. I started architecture school back in 1995, chickened out in my first semester, and switched to interior design. Since I graduated, I have regretted my decision and finally decided that I'm going to do it. Thankfully, I have always worked in architecture firms and got my IDP hours without going back to school. All this to say, I have set a goal to become licensed before I turn 50. IT IS NEVER TOO LATE!

    Thank you for this video. I just turned 44, I’ve been a stay home mom for the last 16 years. I have always dreamed of being an architect. Honestly, I’m not sure all the schooling is for me, so I’m interested in starting as an architectural designer. The actual drawings is what interests me the most. I’ve done a number of remodels in my homes and I helped design the floor plans for an investment property we built from the ground up. It was so much fun to be that hands on! Thank you for being positive about starting over or from scratch at an older age.

    Just watched the entire thing! I turned 30 almost a month back, became an architect at 28 but honestly lost touch with my inner self and the creativity slowly after the pandemic. Things turned more practically financial to manage than hold my creative knots. Took almost like a sabbatical to resolve situations and come back to restart the journey by enrolling for an architectural masters. You broke the entire thing in such a comforting manner like how a mother holds the child's hand while they take their first steps. I thank you from the bottom of my heart! For helping me slowly tap onto the confidence once again!

    I’m 36, been working in architecture for 19 years, and thought I was unable to take the exams. I was approved to sit for my exams in Arizona (live in FL) just due to my experience and letters of recommendation. Two exams passed and 4 to go. It’s certainly hard with a beautiful wife and two girls however they support me and my long hours of studying. It hasn’t been easy but when that little voice eats at you, it’s for a reason. Failing some exams is tough for me but I keep going. Never give up!

    Architecture has always been my passion. I pursue other things and never went for my passion. Im realizing now that ive always tried to create designs and make things from various materials even as a child. Im looking at this video because i am 41 and considering architecture school. Ive pingponged this idea all of my adult life. Now my 10 year old on his own has discovered the love if architecture. I couldn't be prouder! It just confirms that this us something ived oassed on to him which is also giving me my wings ro go for it myself!

    I’m just seeing this a year later, but this was extremely helpful. I’m an Emergency Medical Technician and I was in school for pre-med before the pandemic. The bulk of my patients are elderly and I see them on their worst days. The two comments I get most of the time are “don’t get old” and “my life has gone by so fast.” I was fine for most of my twenties but at almost 29, time has given me the most anxiety about how fast it has already gone. I wanted to be an architect my whole life and I definitely feel like I wasted 10 years of my life in a career I shouldn’t have chosen. I have made the best friends and learned so much about the body, health, and aging that has been beneficial. But I’m at the point where I was asking myself this same question “am I too old.”
    I’ve been working on getting my real estate license with the hope of leaving medicine because it has burnt me out. But I would love to pursue architecture when I’m in the financial situation to do it.

    • @BYoungDesign
      @BYoungDesign  7 месяцев назад +1

      Such a great perspective. It really does seem to go by faster and faster. I’m glad this video resonated with you. 29 still feels young to me. You have a whole life in front of you. Getting into real estate is a great way to get into the arch world. And if you decide to pursue architecture, just know that I was in grad school with someone in their 50s! It’s never too late 😊

    My mentor had 3 children. The youngest was 11 years younger than the 2 oldest.
    She didn't start school for interior design until the youngest was in jr. high. She went on to have a fulfilling career, won awards, was published and had students who were published themselves. Not a bad way to finish well.

    I've been a draftsman since I was 15 and I'm deciding to get licensed at 35. I told my wife I don't know if I would ever fully retire from this profession. Look at the famous architects of history and most were not recognized until after they were sixty. After 20 years as a draftsman I only feel that I'm getting started.
