    I was born in 83 so i was a little bit young for the original series which was FAR superior (although i remember watching it) but i really remember the DIC series because it was on before school in the early 90s haha. But for years the theme song was stuck in my head and i couldnt remember where it was from. It wasnt until years later that i found out that this was kind of like a reboot series to the original. And although its no where as good as the OG series its still pretty nostalgic to me. I do a weekly nostalgia related live stream and one of the weeks coming up we are going to cover GI Joe and i wanted to talk about the DIC series. This video was extremely informative and helped me a ton in my research. Nice work you earned a sub from me. I see you have a lot of other show reviews. I might mention your channel on our show if thats ok with you.

    Sidenote, one story structure that was changed from G.I. Joe. The movie Duke was supposed to die at the end of the film, but because of the backlash of Optimus prime’s death. Hasbro decided not to kill off Duke and only put him in a coma. One reason for that is because unlike transformers Which are sentient robots, the G.I. Joe cast are human so the sensors actually came down hard on the G.I. Joe movie and called it to violent.

    Between the G.I. Joe movie and this series I had actually joined the Army, served overseas for over a year, then came back to the states to Ft. Bragg. One quiet afternoon someone turned on a TV in the team room and one of the DIC episodes came on. I had no idea these existed and I thought it was pretty cheesy and cheap then. That being said, I Found You... Evy was a really good episode and Chris Latta had some great lines as Cobra Commander.

    Funny that both GI joe and transformers Cartoons both dipped in such huge quality after the movies where released. Neither toy line survived long afterwards and took at least decade or 2 decades to recover.

      its probably cos they added so many new characters and bring the spark back for new gen kids but of course they didnt have the same animators which not only turned away og fans, but made new fans think of gijoe as being this cheesey bright cartoon dic offered

      Well, It wasn't until gen X got back into toy collecting on a massive level, that accompanied with Disney buying SW, Marvel, etc, plus transformers films,. coming hot off Spawn / McFarland toys,. that revamped the toy industry.
      Kid's buying toys to play with,. started dying out around 1988/1989. With Baseball cards getting red hot, NES/Gameboy hot, with SNES,. Genesis around the corner too.
      Movies were getting better and more Hi-Tech, plus TV channels started going from: 13-22 ,.to 35-100!!
      Plus kids were growing up MUCH faster, yet less mature, hence they went playing with toys as much. I played with toys up until 14! I still played with TMNT then, I barely played with toys at all, I pretty much quit at 11, but still would reminisce for a while.
      Now kids stop playing with toys around 8! They have XBOX, Netflix, iPhone, nerf guns n tic Tok. Even then, I didn't see my son in law or his friends,.etc really " play " with their toys, more just set them up next to their gaming systems. Or they'd play with Legos n stuff. But the actual playing they,. quit like around 6-7. Crazy how things change. Upsets me enough that I just spent 5 minutes texting this! Lol

      It's because they tried to change too much. Thankfully, they learned from Transformers and decided not to kill Duke. It was a last-minute change, but it was 100% the right call. It's one thing to evolve the property and bring in new stuff, but it's always a misake to just unceremoniously dump all the older stuff too.

      With Transformers they mange somehow survive despite their popularity going down, with the only content they had left was the Marvel comic in the US. Though they were still going strong in Japan, until that died down. But where they find success with Beast Wars, the Unicron Trilogy, animated etc, G.I. Joe unfortunately just can't seem to reclaim the popularity they once had.

    I watched the DiC G.I. Joe in syndication (WDCA-TV D.C. 20, Washington, D.C. & WTAT-TV Fox 24, Charleston, S.C.) and on the USA Network.

    The DIC series is so uneven, but it has it's high points. Dragonfire was good, as was the "I found you" episode. Some of it does get a bit ridiculous and out there, which I normally don't mind, but they take it a tad too far. Still though, it gets more crap than it deserves and can be fun it you're open to it.

    The football episode wasn't Sarge trying to save his sister, it was the Joes playing Cobra in football to save Sarge

    the writers didn't take themselves serious at all when coming up with the dialogues, just everyday people things but with Joe gear & equipment like no big deal, actually kind of so bad it's good kind of thing. i got to find that scarlett & duke goldigger/simp episode now. didn't register to an 8 year old but now in hindsight that's hilarious!

    Awesome video, SHARK!! i never.even heard of this! They made toys of Dic GI JOE as well? Is this part of the 1982-1994 GI JOE line? Or a one-off thing separate from it?

    LOL Got to get tough! This was my Joe era. Operation Dragonfire was great, but even as 6-8 year I enjoyed the 80s episodes more. On the plus side DIC Joe is crazy! Pigskin Commandos, Night of the Creepers, I found you...Evy. Were the writers high? The craziest was "A is for Android." Gen Hawk comes back from a mission with some serious mental issues (he was actually a robot duplicate) and the Joes were all like, "ok, we'll just follow all his crazy orders." Were Doc, Lifeline, and Stretcher at an AMA conference?

    DiC had a knack for that cornball Hanna Barberra cheese cracks. It feels so forced and deflates any good tension the series gave you. The comics, the series as whole, the excellent GI Joe Retribution miniseries, and the new Snake Eyes movie (surprised i liked it) are really all you need. The other live action movies and games have moments (the avalanche ninja battle in Retaliation, the fan service easter eggs in each movie, the classic rail gun arcade game, the sheer difficulty of the NES games, etc) but fail to fully deliver, much like The DiC series.

      if you watch this show for just time pass, its actually not too bad. i enjoyed it for what it is. it's a terrible gijoe cartoon but a decent "corny cartoon"

    I did like how they handled the events of the movie for the most part. And in a way, I can understand why Destro was so ready to realign with Cobra Commander. As many failures as Cobra Commander had, Cobra was never left in absolute ruins. Following the events of the movie, if you think about it, Cobra was left in shambles hence why there were a lot of names from the old series/movie that were nowhere to be found. So why wouldn’t Destro join back up with Cobra Commander? When Commander was in charge, they still HAD Cobra. Serpentor took it and basically burned it to the ground

    • @sharktoonsx
      @sharktoonsx  20 дней назад

      sounds about right, the first few episodes showed that serpentor just was a careless leader with not much agenda other than to eliminate gijoe and that could be a bad tactic because he didn't have most of the resources CC did.
      CC lead Cobra with more of an idea and usually had backup plans. serpentor had more an ego and makes sense for that character.
      but i agree, love how most of the cobra didn't return cos they had nothing left and cc was gone.

    • @seanwilliams5580
      @seanwilliams5580 20 дней назад +1

      Well originally if you recall, even when Dr. Mindbender was trying to create Serpentor, he didn’t acquire all of the materials to do it and tried to use Sgt Slaughter in place of one of the missing DNA materials. But as tough as the Sarge is, he can be a little headstrong, as was shown with Serpentor. He was impatient, an egomaniac, narcissistic, hot tempered and was anything but strategic.
      Side note, that was the one figure I wanted of G.I. Joe that I could never get my hands on was Sgt. Slaughter, especially when they released “Slaughter’s Marauders” but that was also cause they released other favorites as part of that group like Low Light, Spirit and Barbecue

    I really dipped out around season 2 of this version. The dip in animation, music and voice actor quality made it easier to leave this show behind.
    Also, the new Joes and Cobras werent entertaining or endearing like the first couple seasons.

    • @sharktoonsx
      @sharktoonsx  14 дней назад +1

      yeah i can see how that would be the case because if you even look at the character designs and costumes, it wasn't anything too familiar despite returning characters

    Imo and for alot of gi joe fans they ruined gi joe when they turned the movie all science fiction instead of sticking with the military theme also serpentor really wasnt liled by alot of fans.. the low quality dic cartoons didnt help either. Transformers losing Optimus prime and the new characters couldnt replace the og characters kids were used to seeing
