@@the_elmeister sorry to disappoint you but these R179s are likely temporary as there filling in for the R160s that are OOS for maintenance yes they are for CBTC but it’s just CBTC testing for future 8th avenue CBTC there were rumors they were gonna transfer the 10 car R179s from Pitkin to Jamaica yard but that doesn’t sound like it’s gonna happen
If I remember correctly, the main difference between having the R179 on the F vs having the R211 is that the R179 (minus the next stop announcements) use their R160 station announcements, while the R211s use a different program that allegedly comes from an A/C reroute.

@ these are assigned I believe because of the signaling system in Brooklyn with the F. I’m pretty sure they’ll split it between the A, E and F

@ then why was there an R179 operating on the M train in December? That was well before the incident took place.
