So I have 5 sisters and we have a tradition where if any guy is interested in dating one of us, he has to have seen P&P at least twice and be able to say a few quotes. I swear, I see this movie at least 200 times a year, my family is addicted to it! My sisters are always talking about how they want to find their Mr. Darcy. I'm more of a Bingly kind of girl.
This movie is my first introduction to the fact that sometimes, once every blue moon, a book can be perfectly adapted into a movie. It takes advantage of the qualities only cinema has to offer while also retaining the quality of the original book. Come to think of it, with it's subtle "show don't tell" sort of style that it uses to perfectly capture the emotion of the scene, I think I actually like the movie better than the book.
This is actually the worst movie out of the book, because it's not loyal to the etiquette of the period nor the book itself, the music and the dresses aren't good for the era, but i agree it has a catching vibe in it. I like to think about it more like a different, independent movie, because that way it's quite nice
@@juliannagaal5730 SAME. AGREED. Initially I HATED this movie because everything was so entirely wrong. Clearly nobody in this cast/crew bothered to even look up ANYTHING about Jane Austen's era to actually get it right. But by this point, I just view it as another addition to historic romance and just enjoy it for the good general filmmaking bits of it.
