I've been praised for my Mother-32 demos, even by a couple of Moog employees themselves, but that tune at the end completely blows away anything that I've done with my three Mother-32s! Beautifully done Nick!
+sonicstate Nick, your demos are always spectacular. I always come to your demonstrations because I really dig your taste in synthesis. You should put your tracks up as a download, even if they are just quick and dirty-Quick and dirty can be good. All the more impressive if they aren't multitracked, right? Like this one is *seriously* impressive. Cannot wait for you to review the Minilogue. I know you'll be able to show me the kinds of sounds that I want to hear from it, if it can do it, unlike all these other chumps on RUclips ;)... (Except Doty I guess).
That is an incredible value when you go out and price some individual Eurorack modules. This would be a fantastic intro to modular synth for anyone and with the sweet sound and bulletproof quality of a Moog.
Highly recommend using a compressor with the Mother32 to help maintain volume while adding resonance to the filter. I've tried a bunch, all the boss cs1,2,3 and several others.....best I've found is the Fender The Bends Compressor.
It's late 2018 and I'm back to hear that closing demo.. one more time. Absolutely sublime tones invoking emotions not typically reserved for gear reviews. Well done sir.
As always a great review. The piece at the end is lovely. Those Moog sounds flow as smoothly as spreadable butter on a scone. So, in conclusion, It's the perfect synth for afternoon tea.
Wonderful demo and the piece with -3- Mother 32's at end was enough to make me want -3- of them, *after* NAMM, of course. Still holding onto hope of a rack version of Sub 37 to add to my Sub 37:-)
Seriously impressive stuff! Through and through. They really packed in a bunch of hidden extras, but at the same time there's some limitations that drag it down compared to traditional pseudo-cheap Moogs. Particularly the ability to drive the filter input seems like an oversight. It still sounds sweet, and fairly Moogish, but it doesn't quite nail that rumbling filter smudge. I'm inclined to think it's not all that interesting, if you don't have atleast some (semi-) modular stuff, compared to going that bit higher and getting a Sub Phatty for instance. But i have a sneaking suspicion that this is just a gateway for them to move into the euro-rack market. Wouldn't even be surprised to see some euro-rack modules, that compliment this, announced at the NAMM next week. Though i think the Sub-61, that's gonna replace the Voyager, will steal the show, with 4 oscillators capable of paraphonic operation.
Just picked one of these beauties up today! GREAT overview, definitely learned a few routing tricks. I especially like using the VC Mix Out to VCA CV In trick to give it a sort of makeshift "overdrive" function! Definitely cool
My only complaint with this unit, being brand spanking new to the world of modular, is that I wish Moog had made more tutorials/explanatory videos for the patching options. I mean, they're marketing this as an "entry to modular synthesis" after all. Don't get me wrong; I love just plugging stuff away and seeing what it does, but it would be nice to have sort of a comprehensive overview
I posted this on the bass station II as well. I am new to the analog synth world even though I am old enough not to have an excuse for my ignorance. I have genuine - non-troll questions that I think are being avoided by the industry. So here we go. The same problem I keep seeing and hearing with analogue synths is that there is no clear path to get record-able and musical sounds out of them. I understand waves and how they scope out. I understand the hardware being used in the box. Even so I have no idea how to get a complex sound out of it that is meaningful to me. These videos are clearly aimed at people who know and love synths... so the questions must be put to you who know. I would love to use one, but how in the world can they sell more or widen their use, if most performers/non-professionals/home studios - like myself, can't use an analogue synth? based on the videos I have consumed, the instruments sound as if the amount of time it would take to master even the one device and its usable range, would be years. An industry question that must have been posed before me is: How in the world do synth producers expect anyone new to come in happy and ready to invest all their time building sounds instead of performing and producing music? And to follow that up, wasn't DSP initially an attempt to engineer a usable recording and performance tool for a wider user base? Is there a fast track teaching/learning tool for promoting getting more out of synths for beginners? To be absolutely clear, I am not anti-synth, I am pro music and pro knowledge. I support using the tool for the job. I have not found an instrument yet that I do not like. Well that isn't exactly true I used a metal spring board which ate up my fingertips. So, lots of questions that I have no doubt Sonicstate can answer, your videos prove you have the knowledge.
Nick, I would love to hear some of the sonic trickery you could cook up pairing a Mother 32 and a Dreadbox Erebus. Also, in absolute agreement with the masses on the fade-to-black jam. One of your finest!
Great review as always Nick! Sweet sound and looks like the sequencer while functional has some nice interesting twists! Of course, you'd need 3 like in your outtro! :-)
Thank you... that fueled a growing curiosity I have for Moog. Everything I knew about Moog was only hearsay (which was pretty much nothing really), but because of RUclips reviews/demos I'm discovering the amazing magicalness that can be created through this instrument (can I even call it an instrument?) ... AMAZING...
love the outro track! you're an unreal synthesist nick, and one of my biggest synth inspirations! i have watched/listened to your cymru beats performance lots, i just zone out to your music and it takes me a way
I want this so bad! With the Akai Tom Cat it would make a good analog synthesis setup with only hands on controls. Beautiful tune at the end of the vid, love it!
+Kelly Merrill Wow, I can't understand calling the Mother 32 lame. This is the fattest sounding single Osc (technically speaking) synth I've heard that has amazing expansion capabilities. However I do agree the mother isn't immediately gratifying. I recently got one and with all these amazing demos on youtube I thought it would be easier to make great patches. If you want something simpler and more immediate, yeah you may want to consider something else. There are a lot of analog options out there now.
I've already watched this video, dunno how many times ( got a mother32 way more than a year ) and just now I noticed at @6:32 saying that you cannot control with a CV the VCO MOD AMOUNT. Which you actually CAN DO if you turn the VCO MOD SOURCE switch at EG/VCO MOD. On that position you can control the VCO MOD AMOUNT with a CVsignal through the VCO MOD INPUT on the patchbay! You seriously are one fo my favourite channels by far, I love your passion, technicality and approach so I hope that this comment doesn't look like something else than what it is, constructive feedback! You're still the best at what you do!! Cheers!! \m/ \m/
Nick I must have come back 10 or more times to listen to the end demo. Dammit man it's so good! Hopefully Moog just awards you with these 3 units to keep for that beautiful example. I was on the fence with the mother until this video.
Cool. It seems like a patchable Moog Minitaur and as I have one of those guess I`ll prob look elsewhere to expand into a bit of normalised Modular, Pittsburgh Lifeforms perhaps ?
Hi Nick. Brilliant demo - clearly explained, tastefully played throughout, and your Outro demo was superb as always. Now I am eagerly anticipating your Korg Minilogue demo, plus all the upcoming goodies at NAMM. Thanks :)
You remain as The King of synth reviews.
That demo jam was INCREDIBLE!
Agreed. Even two years after this was recorded, I've yet to find anyone who can do anything as good on the M32, even harder with more than one.
That track at the end is superb - Nick, you really should make some albums and put them out(especially on vinyl).
That demo at the end = Bonkers.
Great as ever Nick, thanks!
HOLY CRUD!!! Those last Minutes are so GLORIOUS!!!
Holy cow! That musical demo at the end is gonna sell a heap of Mother 32s for Moog!!! Wow did you ever make those sing! Bravo!!!
I've been praised for my Mother-32 demos, even by a couple of Moog employees themselves, but that tune at the end completely blows away anything that I've done with my three Mother-32s! Beautifully done Nick!
Gotta give yourself some credit you make awesome stuff too man.
@@UhKimboze ah man, thank you very much, I really appreciate that!
@@Genshi yeah of course! The world needs more positivity so I’m doing my part to make a difference.
was fairly unimpressed by the mother.... until that jam at the end! now I want three! :)
I got one in April and another in May, there is that advantage to two identical devices where learning one is learning the other.
that demo jam should be on the official Moog Mother 32 video
Awesome track at the end Nick! Ever thought about putting out an album/compilation of these jams? The Dominion jam was especially spine tingly.
+MARTIN w/ SUN Thanks, and yes, but its never multi-tracked, must remember to do that, but its such a rush with NAMM next week!
+MARTIN w/ SUN Agreed, proper lovely jam there man.
+sonicstate Nick, your demos are always spectacular. I always come to your demonstrations because I really dig your taste in synthesis. +sonicstate Indeed very nice! :) Great review, had been bugging Moog to send you one, little did I know they'd send you three! :D
Have to agree. Somple but impressive.
Came back to listen to that composition at the end again, that enormous gritty deep bass rhythm is so hypnotic..
Christ that sound at the end! Goosebumps and everything, can't justify 3 can I?
That is an incredible value when you go out and price some individual Eurorack modules. This would be a fantastic intro to modular synth for anyone and with the sweet sound and bulletproof quality of a Moog.
Good lord, that outro piece is stunning, gold I tell ya! Could listen to 2 hours of variations of that.
The sequencer was a bit tricky.. oh sure... and then you pulled out that gem of a jam at the end... ;) Nice!
That closing track... majestic.
Highly recommend using a compressor with the Mother32 to help maintain volume while adding resonance to the filter. I've tried a bunch, all the boss cs1,2,3 and several others.....best I've found is the Fender The Bends Compressor.
Great tip, the Hydrasynth filter also gets a little wild too so this may help with that too
It's late 2018 and I'm back to hear that closing demo..
one
more
time.
Absolutely sublime tones invoking emotions not typically reserved for gear reviews. Well done sir.
Kudos for your insightful comments and observation on the unit and finishing it off with a musical piece. Great all around.
This is the third time I have come back to this video, just for the jam at the end!
Excellent review, thanks nick!
That demo at the end is fantastic! Very well done!
As always a great review. The piece at the end is lovely. Those Moog sounds flow as smoothly as spreadable butter on a scone. So, in conclusion, It's the perfect synth for afternoon tea.

Beautiful piece at the end Nick. Such lovely tones.
Returning for the end jam once again after some time. Well done Nick!
Wonderful jam!!!❤️🔥
That jam alone must have sold hundrets of mother 32s...
Came back for that outro song again. Nick you're a great artist, really enjoy your taste in sounds and music, thanks for the reviews.
What a review to kick off the new year, great video Nick
Nick, you are really good at creating mood. when you connect with a synth it really shines.. great job.
Seriously impressive stuff! Through and through.

Fantastic jam at the end there Nick, absolutely lovely bit of music!
The end demo is splendid!
Oh snap, the long awaited sonic-state-mother-32-review!!
The groove beginning @7:00 is ace, especially when the swing is added. Nick the way you demo’d with that groove was amazing, much respect.
Really nice track Nick. I could listen to that for days
Oh man, Nick!! Another great review and amazing song to close it!!
Dude, Nick, those sounds at the last few minutes were some of the most beautiful sounds i've ever heard...
aw thanks ColdWelder - was mostly the Moogs and LOTS of FX
And excellent patching!
Nick can make a bucket of turds sound beautiful
The Jam
At the end !! I'd buy that to listen to . Some stunning sounds in there and inspiring session . Thank you
Fantastic demo in the end!
Thank god it had pulse width. ;-)
+Johnny Paterson I know! Nick would have ripped it to shreds otherwise ;)
Beautiful bit of music at the end. Enjoyed that, thanks Ss.
Got my first Moog a M32!
It is actually a 24db/oct ladder filter (p12 in the manual).
Love it.
give us a full version of the end track man. awesome stuff.
Master at the controls. Please put some of your gorgeous compositions out for the public enjoyment!
the best thing about that review was the jam at the back end...very nice
Always nice to see another review of yours like this up, Nick. And like others have already said, great sounding outro as usual
Wow, yeah. Really nice piece of music at the end.
Bravo! Review well done! Love the jam at the end as well! Keep up the great work.
Wow, beautiful playing at the end.
Great review, and lovely track! I wish we could CV attack and decay, that would be so useful!
Just picked one of these beauties up today!
GREAT overview, definitely learned a few routing tricks.
I especially like using the VC Mix Out to VCA CV In trick to give it a sort of makeshift "overdrive" function!
Definitely cool
Great review Nick, always love your artistry at the end. It's the cherry on top!
GREAT review as always... Just got my 2nd M32 in the mail tonight. Lots of modular things to figure out!! NAAAMM!!!!!
My only complaint with this unit, being brand spanking new to the world of modular, is that I wish Moog had made more tutorials/explanatory videos for the patching options.
I mean, they're marketing this as an "entry to modular synthesis" after all.

Great demo track at the end, using the three Mother 32s. Inspiring.

Terrific as ways. From you and moog. Always inspirational too.

The review is great - the prepared improv is beautiful!
I want this so bad! With the Akai Tom Cat it would make a good analog synthesis setup with only hands on controls. Beautiful tune at the end of the vid, love it!
well these certainly shine especially bright as a trio!
Your play out sounds amazing, 3 together sounds great
Sounds great. But I have to say I find the patch matrix confusing.
You really need to release the play out music, Nick. Beautiful!
There's so much WANT in this little box from Moog.
Very nice demo piece there at the end Nick!
The music at the end is fantastic, dang....
This guy is so freakin awesome. Keep the videos comin brotha
That jam at the end deserves to sell more Mothers than Moog can dream of...tasty!
"...why build one when you can have two at twice the price?" - S.R. Hadden
you should do monthly mother 32 tutorials plzzzzzzzzzz :D
Had to send them back. ..
+sonicstate Im sure if you setup a sponsorship deal with Moog, they would happily oblige ;)
+sonicstate Oh my god Im buying one of these come the fall if you did tuts that would be incredible
0 coast I was looking at as well.

best synth reviews on the net. would love to see some more reviews of digital synths nord rack 4 etc
Fantastic review! Very informative and the piece at the end was dynamic!

please release the demo closing track. simply beautiful
up next - the Roland System-500 I reckon? Maybe even paired with the AIRA modular FX (VA)?
That last bit is what made me buy this
Great review! :)
Loved the end track, beautiful!
Lovely play out here Nick. Thanks for another great review.
Nick I must have come back 10 or more times to listen to the end demo. Dammit man it's so good! Hopefully Moog just awards you with these 3 units to keep for that beautiful example. I was on the fence with the mother until this video.

There will never be another as good as Synth Man Nick.....Nice job as always
This jam is next level, I don’t know much about modular but that jam makes me want to learn.. kudos Nick
Nice jam at the end, im happy i saw the video all the way.
. I really enjoyed that piece of music too Nick.
fantastic demo Nick! Very inspiring!!!
Great performance at the end!!!! I now want all three!!! Thanks
Not convinced about the synth but as ever the track at the end was great. Cheers Nick.
After I bought the Sub Phatty and the Minitaur, nows time for the Morher 32.
The sequencer is so good! Love it! Standalone version would be great!
Hi Nick. Brilliant demo - clearly explained, tastefully played throughout, and your Outro demo was superb as always.
Now I am eagerly anticipating your Korg Minilogue demo, plus all the upcoming goodies at NAMM.
Thanks :)
Every time I watch a video featuring Nick, i can't help myself but laugh at every single moment that include pulse width. :D
Killing it on the demo, Nick
Love the jam at the end! That sounded great. I have one of these bad boys on the way to me and can wait to start playing with it.
Beautiful Jam at the end
