Deep De La Riva Guard is one of the best ways to control an opponent who is trying to move quickly. In this particular video we are working from Deep De La Riva with an X clamp.

Does technique #2 apply if your opponent is in a combat base stance?

Shaun Walters great question, it applies if you’re able to elevate them, it will probably hard to if he/she is in combat base. You can try and get a reaction with push pull. There are plenty of back takes when they go combat base though.
