    I just listened to a pair of A3’s. They were amazing! I didn’t realize they were $9800 at one time. The dealer quoted me $15k a pair. That’s a big price hike. I would of bought the pair for $9800 on the spot.

    I have had these for over a year (March 2021). Very good speaker as you would expect. The best I can do is to describe the one weakness. It is the bass. Yes it is a 'full range' speaker but (1) it only has two moderately sized woofers and (2) more important is that the bass is volume dependent. At low volume the bass is weak. On the other hand at high volumes the bass is good. Not only is it there but to my perception it is good quality bass. Maybe some equalization, but not for me. The treble is more than sufficient. The midrange seems as good as you can get.
    Looks: In the flesh it is vastly better than any photo. I would not even have considered this baby had I not had a personal view.
    Subjective sound quality. My fetish is 3d. What I got was excellent soundstage left to right. Almost no back to front soundstage. Rare sounds from beyond the speakers. No (one single exception film exception) vertical soundstage. However bear in mind that I have a below average listening room. If I had a larger listening room I have no doubt I would be upgrading this.
    The spikes. My dealer (who has vastly more experience than me) said the spikes would improve the sound. For my ancient ears I cannot hear the difference.
    Takeaway. Expensive (for me) but this is more relevant than chucking dosh at an amp or a source. I ain't selling.

    Hi Steve, nice video! I also like the magico speakers and know the owner alan wolf since years. To drive a magico speaker to a great soundperformance you have to use great poweramplifiers like the soulutions etc. to get good results. I have designed the soulution gear years ago, and so it's no surprise to see this combi very often.

    For the very wealthy, spending $10,000 ( or much more ) on a pair of speakers isn't much to talk about, is it? I guess for the vast majority of the not-very-wealthy but hard working people who truly believe is audiophile sound, the vintage speaker market never looked better. I am a budding vintage speaker collector and my newest purchase of a pair of near-mint 1975 Advent Large Speakers ( made of real wood! ) may seem basic and lack the snobbery of most audiophiles, but their warm "New England" sound and potent bass - is absolutely awesome. I'll never sell them.

    Steve, have you heard the Revel Performa3 F208Be? I heard them last year in prototype form at a projected price of about $11,000 US. They could be stiff competition for the A3s and for any speaker at any price. They were among the most flawless sounding speakers I ever heard particularly in their freedom from compression effects. Another stunner for similar money is the Kii Audio three. I'd love to hear a shootout between these models.

Above a given point I have no doubt that there is no performance increment, I mean, there is no "better" or "worse" and you are not upgrading anymore. Everything is just different from that point forward and I guess one is just spending for the sake of having something new and not for having a better sound. Not cool.

      The Studio 530, and 590 are too good. I wish they had real wood veneer cabinets; but , what an insane value. I'm still too poor too to buy a pair; yet, coming into some money back in 1986, I bought a pair of JBL L100t's, L20t's, and a B-380 Sub, which I still enjoy today.

      Studio's and LS-50 got too expensive. There are better Speakers not too far north even for the KEF R300 , like Markaudio Cesti B's for instance. 1200-1500$ is too much to pay for 750-900$ Speakers. Top ten lists are your enemy here. K-Russel makes some great Bookshelf also.

      @hifitommy 6 лет назад

      AudiophileTubes ...the Polk 10s were wonderful but had their limitations. Deep bass and ultimate loudness but soundstaging and imaging were outstanding.
      For me, the beauty is in the sound which the A3s is exemplary in every aspect and disappear sonically. Sonus Faber probably would satisfy your design needs and still give the sound you want.

    Hmmm.... The cabinets are only 10" x 11" x 3 1/2' tall, are made of aluminium, and contain only 4 drivers each... What exactly justifies the cost of almost $10,000? I'm sure they sound great .... but 10G ! seriously? How much does it actually cost Magico to make these? The only steal I see going on here is one by Magico.

      absolutely no justification; look at those 2 cabinets: the $9800 was desgined square on purpose just to make the other model 10 times expensive; pure BS and still not even a spec chart about these "amazing" speakers

      and what on earth would a 'spec chart' tell you - it says nothing about how something sounds

    I'm trying to figure out how to come up with $2,300 for a pair of Tannoy Revolution XT8F & I don't even have any other components to go with them. This audiophile business is for people with more money than sense.

      I'm not criticizing anyone. I'm stating an observational fact. Thanks, but I can only wish for such extravagance. Now I'm dreaming of Golden Ear Triton 5's over the Tannoy XT8F's, but the bills just never stop coming. I don't have more money than sense unfortunately.

      Wilderness Music The only thing unfathomable is your logic. Why don't you go to India and buy speakers that sound better for a lot less money? Then, you'd have a logical argument even with the dichotomy in economics.

    • @carlosoliveira-rc2xt
      @carlosoliveira-rc2xt 6 лет назад

      Wilderness Music Well I guess that is where the disconnect occurs. If you think nanographene cones and anodized aluminum cabinets are commonplace and cheap, then I could see your point. But they are expensive and difficult with which to work. You won't many speakers for $10,000 using beryllium, nanographene, neodymium and aluminum cabinets in a full range design. In fact, I can names dozens that cost more and use none of these materials. I wouldn't call the cars coming out of India world class either. Easy to make something inferior that costs less but more difficult to make something better that costs less. The A3 is a world class speaker at a competitive price. If you can find a better sounding and better built speaker for less money then you should definitely inquire about distribution rights and purchase a pair as well. I have met and spoken with many individuals who claim to own the holy Grail of speakers that cost next to nothing but the auditioning never bears fruit. I'm getting a little tired of the criticism high performance audio endures. There is more profit in clothing than in high-end audio yet I don't hear the complaints that there is 200 to 400 percent profit in the shirt you are probably wearing right now.

      Since I spent my life in production and design, managed a production shop for 22 years, I know a little about design and production. This is why I get disappointed in incompetent engineers who need more time to design a speaker than an automobile. One can refine a cone and magnet speaker to great detail, but it is not innovative enough to warrant the high R&D cost we are expected to pay at $10,000. A speaker design that does not use a cone/magnet to produce sound, I would expect to pay a high cost for the R&D and the speaker as it comes off assembly with final fit. It is interesting to have this conversation with you, I have had the same one with other products and consumers who don't seem to understand they are paying for incompetence from engineers who could not get a job in aerospace, watercraft or the auto industry. Maybe too many drugs in school??? IF these speakers are hand built and limited to one unit per week, then we are not talking production anymore, and any price can be reasonable...but I don't think this is the case here. For example, take the MOOG Synthesizer assembly plant in North Carolina, they are hand building the finest synthesizers in the world, with second to none circuitry and the finest design and construction (compatible construction to these speakers) and the average synth cost (100% made in the USA) is $2000.00. This cost reflects a much smaller market share than home speakers, a customer base less than 1% of the home stereo market.

    I'm not convinced ... I'm not convinced ... expensive companies that suddenly get out a cheap product, they usually do that because of necessity and to attract more customers... with their famous name ... and the parts and whole product have their ''edges cut'' for the reason of saving... and at the end, when the product with ''famous'' name arrived and settled down in your home and living room, it sucks. For $ 10,000, is possible to found speakers that are flagships of their companies, in the terms of design, technology and sound. I'm not saying that Steve is not right for the Magico A3, I just want to say that in such cases we have to pay more attention and see where the bad sides and points of the product are hidden. Peace

    • @carlosoliveira-rc2xt
      @carlosoliveira-rc2xt 6 лет назад +1

      Dragan Antonijević The companies use what they've learned from making their flagship to integrate the technologies into speakers lower down in the lineup. The economy of scale also allows the technology to be cheaper. How the hell do you think you have ABS and airbags in economy cars?

    I spent an afternoon with the Magico A3 as well. I heard what Steve did; that these are indeed something special. I ordered a pair the next day. Hopefully they'll sound as good in my home as the showroom. Counting the days...
    For a few of the "special" folks leaving negative comments: If you've never even been in the same building as this (or any product) perhaps you shouldn't tell everyone how much it sucks. All you are doing is revealing how much you suck. In other words, get help.
