    Just got a used ASW610 (10" variant) for $340. Not bad considering the sticker price is $900+tax. The space I put it in had only 12¾" of width clearance so it just barely fit! It sounds great for music! This video helped with my decision, thanks!

    One note, if I’m not mistaken, is that the amp is rated at 200W *peak* power. It’s no bruiser (obviously).
    I bought two used on Accessories 4 Less for $399 each to augment the bass of my Forte IV, which i run full range in a 13 channel system (everything else is in wall and in ceiling). It does an awesome job. Surprisingly full and satisfying bass in my pretty large open concept living room. The bass has a lighter, clearer tone than the single SVS SB 2000 i replaced. This affords them the ability to be crossed over at 120hz for the surrounds and yet they blend seamlessly unlike the SVS (which is an amazing sub, but isn’t built to crossover that high).
    Perfect match for Klipsch high efficiency heritage speakers and for small/in ceiling speakers that only have bass to 100hz or so.

      not much need for more than 200 watts, i run my 10" subwoofers with that. a 2x100w amp on two passive subwoofers with 10" subwoofer driver.

      @TokeBoisen 2 месяца назад +2

      It uses an IcePower 200ASC module with an integrated switchmode power supply. It can hit just shy of 200 Watts into 4 Ohms, per AudioscienceReview's testing. Sadly it seems to not really be robust enough for the abuse you can subject it to with this sub, as the module has a high failure-rate. Luckily they are off-the-shelf parts, and the driver is very solidly built

    The plate amp shows 40Watt usage at the cord. I would be curious to see an amperage clamp on the power cord to see if it is in fact using only .3 amps @ 120volts (40 watts).

    I looked at these before my for 707 s2 B&w but when I tested them at richersounds I was disappointed. Bass quality was good but didn't go anywhere as low as the specs suggested when trying a movie trailer. What bothered me most was it was distorting when not even pushed to its limit. Maybe there was a fault with the sub but I let richersounds play with the settings since they're experts with audio

      Hello! At the end of the day its still just a compact 8" driver so the law of physics still apply. Do you know if they had the EQ and bass extension settings set correctly on the subwoofer? By no means am I suggesting the ASW608 will be adequate for movie performance in a medium size or larger room. What I am saying is not everyone has room of a big bulky subwoofer and the ASW608 might be a good compromise for people who want to add a little bass to their system who otherwise wouldn't have the room for one. Considering its size I was really impressed with its performance and plan on keeping mine.

    • @generationbehindhifi
      @generationbehindhifi  Месяц назад +1

      When the low pass filter switch is set to "out" it bypasses the subwoofer's internal crossover which also disables the use of the dial. When the switch is set to "in" then you will have use of the subwoofer's own crossover and dial. Hope this helps.

    This is apparently known as a sound quality/audiophile subwoofer, but the size/price is not appealing. Are you planning on reviewing any of Dayton Audio's Classic Collection? Preferably the B65. Thanks for the videos.

    • @generationbehindhifi
      @generationbehindhifi  2 месяца назад +3

      For some the size is appealing. I know it is to me because I needed a small subwoofer to fit behind my theater chairs and the ASW608 is perfect for that. I agree the price is a bit steep and I talk about that in this video, but B&W has never been known for value.
      I'm working with Dayton right now, but they want to review my videos before I post them and that's a deal breaker for me so it may or may not happen.

    Hi! Very nice video as always! It is really greate that you measure the drivers and give your impressions about the TS parameters. I found this very useful and informative! Just one question . Why do you said that the damping material tricks the driver like making it seems to be in a larger box? There are videos that makes measurements and comparison between same woofer with damping material and with no material and the result was that damping material does no improve the bass response. I think that the damping material only helps in reduce cabinet resonances. Best regards!

    • @generationbehindhifi
      @generationbehindhifi  2 месяца назад +2

      Thanks! I appreciate the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. As for your question about the damping material that B&W is using which is also known as "polyfill". How Polyester fiber stuffing works, is that it slows down the sound waves inside the box, making the subwoofer perform as if the box were bigger. I haven even proven this on my own channel with some of my upgrade videos. You can read more about it here: www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-polyfill-actually-works.19614/

    • @litzy7892
      @litzy7892 2 месяца назад +2

      These materials can indeed make a difference in perceived volume the driver sees. If you have access to a Dayton Audio DATS, you can test this out for yourself.

    Thanks for the video. Helps to see the build quality. You’ve enjoyed the performance so it’s good to see the build is one of the reasons why. B&W is high priced unless it’s a soon to be discontinued model. I just ordered a RSL Speedwoofer 10E, a 10 inch cone sub, for $299 US. That’s value. Looking forward to checking out its’s performance in my 2-channel system. Rock on!

    Thanks for the video. I have one of these. I use it for music only, somewhat of a reverberant room, so a sub can get boomy real quick. Being small and sealed makes it work well for me. And I have a mix of vintage receivers as well as newer AVRs so having the low and high-end inputs is important.

    i mean the amplifier is trashy, wont gonna sound as good as a class AB in bass clarity plus if your ic amplifier goes away, its over!
    Its not like some well built class D amplifier that is built for quality.
    Sub is ok, stamped steal i mean okay but it should be better
    amplifier as i said is trashy
    box is well, its not the best, the stuffing saves it somewhat but like if i want a subwoofer, it should play 10-15hz too.

    • @generationbehindhifi
      @generationbehindhifi  2 месяца назад

      That's a lot of ask from an 8" driver (10-15hz). I think most people who buy a sub of this size do so because they have a space limitation. At the end of the day the law of physics still apply, but I think its great for its size.

    • @Uraim
      @Uraim 2 месяца назад

      If you think that its for 40-50hz then your avarage bookshelf speaker can do that.
      whatever good this is built with double magnet, this a woofer if this cannot go under 20hz. A 8" Savard subwoofer in a box can do 10-15hz and its a subwoofer. That will shake your room.
