Saw this movie when I was 12 years old I remember people in the audience clapping at the end of that aria am now 84 years old and still think he was the greatest tenor in my life time

I have to agree with you. I was born 2 years after he died. Fortunately, my Father played his music on a regular basis and I was hooked from a very young age. Still brings tears to my eyes, such emotion. To have been lost at such a young age. Would've been 100 this year.

@@user-yr1hm9ko2q Да я не спорю, но по мне голос Ланца суховат. Я очень люблю его слушать,но все равно, по сравнению(для меня, никому ничего не навязываю) с Атлантовым или Паваротти, для меня, он проигрывает. И без ругани, у каждого свои предпочтения.

@Bach 33 Mask singing is bad because the voice doesn’t come from the mask. It comes from the throat. If you sing from the mask your voice will have defects in it, like Björling’s did

Saw this movie when I was very young am now 80 when I hear Lanza sing this it still brings a tear to my eyes
If you watch this version vs the 1958 movie version you can really how he ages into his voice. He gets more comfortable and accents a far bit more in the movie version but they are both incredible!

There is a mural on the side of building just off of Broad Street in Philadelphia featuring the shot from 2:15. It's in a primarily Italian neighborhood. Every time I drive by I think of him in "The Student Prince".

In 1959 Mario sang this in a surprisingly venue aka the movie "for the first time".I guess in the movie "For the first time" Mario had to relate to the pain of his character relating to the pain of Canio the i pagliacci character.wow sounds like a tricky acting feet.
at that time, opera roles would have been quite well known, common ones like pop songs. and sorry, it is feat! well, unless he had a foot fetish;-)

Mario sounds so similar to Pavarotti, although I suppose that makes sense since Pavarotti used to practice singing like Mario in front of the mirror. I like them both equally!
