Dr. Ludlow is such a humble man. Thank you for having him as a resource person. His testimony about the importance of having a "personal" scripture study is very inspiring!

I love how John and Hank are learning along with us. Even though they have been teaching the scriptures for so long. Tells me that learning never ceases.

My parents joined the church in Indiana around 1950. For several years we attended a branch in Bloomington, Indiana and met many wonderful Utah members, including Dr. Ludlow's parents. When there was enough local members to create a branch in our small hometown thirty miles from Bloomington, we began attending our fledgling branch that was only made up of local converts. While the new branch struggled to convert and keep new members, the handful of members who spent time in the Bloomington Branch and saw the wonderful examples of Christian discipleship and gospel learning and teaching never wavered. Our family is now 3rd generation members and we owe it all to faithful Utah members.

That is the second Jim Rohn quote I've heard this week, from two completely different sources. It must be a sign 🙂. Thanks for another wonderful podcast to augment my study of this week's lesson.

Come down…. “Life is a monster of such frightful mien, as to be hated needs but to be seen. Yet seen too oft, familiar with her face, first we endure, then pity, then embrace”. Alexander Pope - Essays on Man

I somehow think it all counts Brethren. Even if it’s your job.
Thank you for enlarging my understanding.

As the discussion progressed it appeared Ezra might have been a recommend desk person. It was he that approved the Levitical workers on the temple. It was him that lead the examinars of the genealogies that chose those to return to rebuild the temple. I wonder if it was he the Lord , Titus 3:9, and Timothy, I Timothy 4, was referring to with regard to “endless genealogies” in keeping only those having the Priesthood to work on and in the temple.

Quoting Elder Ballard, I'm "asking for help" from the scholars who have been sharing their knowledge with us on your Podcast: A couple of the guests have suggested getting another version of the Bible--one that is in the modern vernacular. What translation is recommended?

I have nine different English translations of the Bible but the Authorized King James Bible published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the standard.

In their book, "Recharging Our Scripture Study," Brother and Sister Holzapfel suggest (1) The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) and (2) New Cambridge Paragraph Bible with Apocrypha, a revised KJV text presented in paragraph form. They also state that "Other versions have been helpful as secondary reference sources in our studies."

I love all of the great resources that are mentioned, from books and websites by scholars, to the talks and devotionals mentioned. Is there possibly a list somewhere of these things? I understand if not, but I would love to know about it if there is!

When I read about the joy and sorrow I thought about the sorrow of sin. They had turned from God lost their precious temple. Now, repentant they are building a temple, but it is not as wonderful and it is because they lost the first one because of sin.
