Hi, This video was extremely helpful to me. It enhanced my ability to throw a pitcher with an awareness of moving the clay and lenghtening the height at a pace which is faster than I had been using. I was able to get a much better piece. Many thanks Meg
If you can centre it then that's the hardest part to master as a beginner. If you're pot is collapsing then you might be trying to make it too thin. Don't try big pots to start off with,just try small simple ones to start with to get some confidence and once you get the hang of it go a bit bigger. Don't get disheartened,It's not something you can learn overnight,so really it's just practice and eventually you WILL master it. Cheers,Dan.
Dan, thank you for sharing so much of your work. I'm especially a fan as I am also a fan of colored slips while on the wheel, and see the identical process in attaching handles to my work. Seems I never feel like I'll have time later, so mine go on when the pot is too wet, and the handle too limp, and yet we pull it off. I dig seeing this in this video! Thanks again.
Great way to pull a handle, I have never thought of using a table to hold the handle while I pulled it. Much easier I think. Perhaps tonight I will give it a go.
Bravo! A huge pot in under 10 minutes I wouldnt even have that much clay centered by then. I liked how you did your handle, I was taught to let is get leather hard in the curved shape but applying it when you did made it look easier.

Like father, like son! I asked Dan's dad the same thing a while back! When the handle and jug have the same moisture, apparently scoring not critical! I'm scared to try it. Have never lost a handle. :-)

OMG the water! So much water!! I- I can't get away with using soooo much water- I mean it'll just collapse on me after three seconds!
I make all my own tools.
They are all pretty simple,but if you use decent quality stainless steel they'll last for ever.

@nbsiamese just take time to wedge, I used to have that problem too. I think I prefer soft clay because it is more responsive...preference however.

@MegaAnnoyingMouse I know, maybe he's impatient and he uses so much water to thin out the rim faster so he can collar it.
emlmm88 Dan using a lot of water means he likes working with wet hands and clay. It all depends on the potter if they like working wet or dry.
