So many great guitar players over the years. Every once in a while there is a special one with a unique sound and style. Jason did that. He's not only amazing but if you close your eyes and listen, you know it's him. Hard to do....
Man this guy's picking is fkn clean and exact. I started listening to 5FDP in the gym for lifting and really became a fan of Jason's playing. I will follow his career for sure. Need's another solo album for sure.....
I could watch and listen to Jason all day long. An amazing musician. 😁I hope Flat Black will be everything that he wants it to be!! Definitely my favorite new band!
The best advice I’ve ever heard came from this master, he said ‘’ your never good enough, always practice, again and again and again, like the whole saying practice makes perfect ‘’ but the way he said it was way better than me, but it only mean anyone’s can play like him ....... if you practice enough. 👍👍👍👍
I find it to be awesome, that he takes time out of his day to do this for everyone who wants to learn. Just another reason to stay a fan of FFDP.. Thanks for your time Jason.
I'm not a 5fdp fan, however I'm a fan of Jason. Dude is so fluid and clean and precise. very underrated player and I love watching videos of just him to hear his genius.
Probably the Baddest Ass Guitarist Walking bro 💯 Just found this I'm appreciative you are doing this. Talk about leveling tf Up! Thnx Brother Modern Southern Rock Rebellion
4:17 I feel that. I’ve been playing drums for almost 8 years now and whenever I try to slow down a fill or a groove it just jams my brain like you said 😂
literally just got into this band about a week ago after hearing about them for the last 5 years... first song I heard was Jekyll and when the solo came in I was like what the f*** was that??
Joshua -- see Jason in the 2016 documentary Hired Gun. It is a killer look back through history at session players, players that moved from band to band, and their contributions to the music we love. Jason, was in Mandy Moore's band, as a hired gun. Everything was going great, but then her handlers decided she was going to do movies, and everything came to a halt for her band, which were all hired guns for her. AND THEN, Jason was picked to play for Hillary Duff. Crazy right? 2 music acts that were not what you would think for him. Well, touring with Hillary was great, and Jason had an awesome paying gig. Well, Hillary's team sent out an email saying that she was taking her career in a new direction....movies. It happened again! A little before this time, Jason had become friends with Jeremy Spencer of Death Punch. Death Punch was having issues with their guitar player, and Jeremy asked Jason to come down and play. And well, the rest is history :) Great documentary: Hired Gun.
I like watching his right hand when hes soloing. The way his thumb is moving, seems to me must be imparting something extra to his pick action. Rather unique.
god i love youre plays!! you got to give out a dvd on how to play youre (Five Finger Death Punch's) songs i wuld buy it right here right now if you culd make that happend!! You ROCK, Jason!!
One of the best guitarists in modern rock/metal era. Awesome licks. And i like you aren't good in slowing licks down 'cause it proofs you play it just as you feel :) many players lack this ability :) thank you for super cool music :)
My full name is max Samuel greenhouse aka the msg because my initials are msg and the Michael shenkar is a major influence on me. Yah I've been in a few metal and rock bands played at cat clubs. All that helped shape me but all that matters is now and the 1 yr I spent recording to make my legacy on music. Thanks 🙏
that last lick is played on only the first two strings (looks & sounds like more) and uses only the pinky, middle and index finger on the 19th, 15th and 12th frets. He incorporates that little double upstroke/mini-sweep (mentioned in the first lick) to speed it up. A lot easier to play on my Les Paul (shorter scale) than my strat.
Dude your gunna be beyond stoked on my new patented guitar and bass neck. I prototyped it and am finishing up my sponsor vid demo with 20 1 min riffs. It allows you to get sounds never heard or were capable on any guitar ever built!! It's hard to play. For 6 or 4 string so it's not a big ass neck. My uncle Gary Lucas gram nom with Joan Osborne. Jeff Buckley ( grace / mojo pin) Chris Cornell Ect. look forward to gettin you a proto! I'll send the vid
So much easier to learn today with the people who wrote the song showing you how to play it. Still it would be great to have an app where you could zoom in and slow down the finger changes. Back in the day all we has was a shitty record player you could slow down to 16 RPM so it was an octave lower and to learn the part you had to keep putting the needle back. Very good ear training though. 5FDP, one of the great metal bands out there today. A cut above.
Hi Jason, you're mega fast, but you play some tricks so quickly that my eyes hysterically want to roll away from me. Please, I beg you, do solo lessons of the song "lift me up "slower, one hit in five seconds. We, your fans!
awesome player...great playing....don't want to sound like a douche, but at 2:05 I think that you mean to say up, up down...not down, down, up. Both will work, but you're picking up up down, and it works better for me too on that sequence...
+moshpit I used to own an explorer (copy) and they are definitely very cool. I don't dig the corrugated pipe he has leading to the switch, but his paint job is bitchin (comes in other color combos, too)
He is actually very different. 1. Syn uses a schecter with a Seymour Duncan invader and sustainiac. He also sweeps alot. If you heard Jason in 5FDP he doesn't really sweep. And syn plays in drop D, C#, and standard. Jason plays in baritone tuning which is B standard. So that is quite a bit lower than syn. Granted both are superb guitarists. They both differ in tones.
Michael Radliff 5 years ago was 2009. Syn had spiky hair in 2009. He got out of his long hair, fedora, eyeliner and painted nails phase ages before that. Jason doesn't look anything like syn ever has, other than the hair.
This guy definitely has a way more OG background than synister gates... I mean come on the dude played for Alice Cooper, and seriously his guitar technique kills anything Avenged Sevenfold does
Jason Hook is one KICK ASS metal guitarist! Absolutely love your tone and your very casual way of sharing your skills and knowledge. Fan Boy Forever
So many great guitar players over the years. Every once in a while there is a special one with a unique sound and style. Jason did that. He's not only amazing but if you close your eyes and listen, you know it's him. Hard to do....
Truth. Their are some players you just know who they are. He's one of the newer greats. Quick but with feel.
Man this guy's picking is fkn clean and exact. I started listening to 5FDP in the gym for lifting and really became a fan of Jason's playing. I will follow his career for sure. Need's another solo album for sure.....
Right! Not even just clean and exact but also rhythmic as HELL! 90% of his stuff you can’t help but bob your head to🤘🏾
Not really a 5FDP fan, but I always thought Jason was an excellent guitarist, and Loved his solos. He should be better known than he is. He's great!
Ivan! are you watching??? Free lessons from one hell of a guitarist!!
I could watch and listen to Jason all day long. An amazing musician. 😁I hope Flat Black will be everything that he wants it to be!! Definitely my favorite new band!
I dig your sense of rhythm
The best advice I’ve ever heard came from this master, he said ‘’ your never good enough, always practice, again and again and again, like the whole saying practice makes perfect ‘’ but the way he said it was way better than me, but it only mean anyone’s can play like him ....... if you practice enough. 👍👍👍👍
GREAT lesson. Jason is able to teach without coming across as pretentious. Thanks for sharing, Jason.
I find it to be awesome, that he takes time out of his day to do this for everyone who wants to learn. Just another reason to stay a fan of FFDP.. Thanks for your time Jason.

I love 5 FDP and I love your solo guitar parts in every song ! Your awesome!!!!💖💖💖
I am A FFDP fan, And in my opinion, Jason Hook is one of the best guitarist out there in modern hard rock. Great video, man.. Hope to see more.
literally just got into this band about a week ago after hearing about them for the last 5 years... first song I heard was Jekyll and when the solo came in I was like what the f*** was that??

Man that tone is just crushing.... luv it.
I like watching his right hand when hes soloing. The way his thumb is moving, seems to me must be imparting something extra to his pick action. Rather unique.

@Phil-76 you don't have to be that mean
This guy is great! Thank you Jason!
2:40 reminds me of cowboys from hell.
cory beckmann more like Pantera Walk
@@jchavez84 more like a combo of the 2.
@@jchavez84 no, that lick is from the cowboys from hell solo.
@@Bstonz85 yep it is
One of the best guitarists in modern rock/metal era. Awesome licks. And i like you aren't good in slowing licks down 'cause it proofs you play it just as you feel :) many players lack this ability :) thank you for super cool music :)
Your style is badass. The riffs are so proper with a classic yet modern metal sound.
Thanks 🙏
I'm not gonna give too much away but the actual proto looks like fuckin wolverine!! It's savage. It's so expressive
Jason is a very fine and I think a very underrated guitarist.
Great sound and clean playing.
Enjoy your stuff more and more all the time.
Also, is that just the JB and 59 pickups?
3:05 "It's not that difficult" XD
Thanks for the subtitles, I don't unserstand English very well ^^
You are one of my favorite guitar player, thanks for this video
What a time to be learning to play guitar.
Awesome! Time to get practicing.
You’re awesome Jason
Killer. It'll be a while until I can play something like that, but I'll keep this in the archives until that time. Thanks for the lesson.
Wow!..i learned a great great many things...so so fkn....bad ass
In that shred riff he played a little piece from the solo on the song American Capitalist single, he just put in a little throwback
Jason you should a solo album, 5FDP is getting old and your amazing!
angryheb1 he has one called Safety Dunce
that last lick is played on only the first two strings (looks & sounds like more) and uses only the pinky, middle and index finger on the 19th, 15th and 12th frets. wrong all 6 are played friend

Hey Jason will you come back to cedar rapids Iowa five season center
Oooooooohhh!! I see some things I can steal!! Or borrow without asking.

Thanks jason you fucking rock brother..
Damn! That right hand is fucking insane!
Jason Hook!,,,you are the gear!,,,
When can we get an acoustic lesson?
From Mandy Moore to five finger death punch doesn't matter what you play as long as you do it well and he he certainly does
Wonderful!!!!
In my next life a wanna be a gibson guitar...
Not really a fan of ffdp but he’s killer. I’ll have to check his solo
Stuff out
The chorus demonstration sounds and looks like it's in E positions. I hear a little of shifts from E to B and G.
That riff at 7:05 is sic!!!

I know what you mean about tying to slow stuff down. It's damn near impossible.
2:55 .......... "It's not that difficult" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jason Hook vs Synyster Gates. Go.
renai circulation
not bad
If this is master class i am PAGANINI.
you are paganini ...
need a violin ... ?
Guitars doing social distancing.
Why it's called masterclass? I can play all of that stuff in my bedroom, why I'm not famous yet?
+Michal Matejuk Who are you? what band you play in? how many albums you sold? that's the difference
Because you're playing it in your bedroom. You're not trying to get yourself out there.
I try but it's hard, I don't know anyone who plays an istrument and want to be in a band
Exactly, thats why he's famous lol, but what i did, i played everything, and just wrote instrumentals, and let people download my shit for free.
Proof that great guitar players ARE horrible teachers. Guy is rad as hell tho!
I respect the playing skills but the guitar is really ugly. I do like the deeper cutaway.
moshpit Your FACE is ugly!
+moshpit I used to own an explorer (copy) and they are definitely very cool. I don't dig the corrugated pipe he has leading to the switch, but his paint job is bitchin (comes in other color combos, too)
wanna be synyster gates.
He looks the same as synyster gates did 5 years ago
5 years ago syn had was in a goth faze. Jason isn't goth. He naturally looks like this
Michael Radliff 5 years ago was 2009. Syn had spiky hair in 2009. He got out of his long hair, fedora, eyeliner and painted nails phase ages before that. Jason doesn't look anything like syn ever has, other than the hair.

Good player but his tone in this vid is horrible
