    I see the cable reel can be turned easily. Did you loose the spring?

    Thanks..my cable came off too but the loop on the end split rusted so I'm guessing I need a whole new wire? I also have a garage door opener on the door. I hate to call a repairman they will charge me alot to fix this when maybe I can.

      I’m sure you can fix it!
      The best thing you can do is replace it, you don’t want the door falling on anyone because of a rusted wire that you already knew about. They’re inexpensive too.
      Good luck! If you haven’t already fixed it 👌

    I tried doing this but for some reason, the cable still keeps coming off. It seems like there’s not enough tension on the cable and it keeps coming off on both sides when I raise the door after lowering.

      Set cables first with the door in the closed position and the add the tension. When the door is open there should still be about a half turn on the springs.

      7 foot high door with residential drums the rule is one full rotation of the spring per foot of door height. Most doors being 7' high require 7.5 turns. Or 30 quarters. One plug hole on the spring is a quarter turn.

      newmiester it turned out that my door had an internal spring that was broken. I ended up needing to replace the assembly

    Can you explain why they comes off.

    • @tonyl1984
      @tonyl1984 5 лет назад

      Could happen if you bring the door down on top of something one side for example & the weight is off that side & the cable becomes slack

      Springs could be losing tension. You need to have a professional come look at it.

    You need new springs. That’s the correct fix. Since you didn’t replace them you will have this issue again. Fixing it and fixing it correctly are two different things. Also your door is crooked. You can clearly see it when the door goes up. Please don’t try to give bad info this is not a job anyone should do unless they are trained
