This is chess explanation at its peak.
The way you create a narrative, weaving together a story out of something that only a few people in this world can comprehend and present it to amateur players like me is truly a work of art.
this deserves the pin of glaze
EDIT: woah I commented this before it actually got the pin of glaze
Pin of pride
Levy truly is a fantastic commentator. I hope to see him doing more live events the way he has been the past couple years.
Couldn't have put it better. Thank you Gotham
Pin of agree 100%
everyone always makes fun of levy for milking content from magnus but this game was beautiful and im glad that a channel is breaking down the mastery of these players.
Agreed
Even Hikaru does it! All chess streamers see that Carlsen in the headline gets twice or more clicks than without it. Magnus is a money machine.
@@osgubbenThe difference for me as a 1200 is Gotham breaks it down to a level where I can at least understand bits and pieces of it, whereas Hikaru doesn't even mention those same bits and pieces because to him those are so obvious they go without saying
ABSOLUTE TRUTH these guys just want to say he’s milking, he’s gonna be a grandmother, and the “0:01 yapping starts” for likes even though it’s so unfunny. They don’t appreciate what levy is actually doing lol.

What is amazing is how far ahead Magus is from everyone else. Everyone has access to the same engines, yet he is 30 points higher than anyone in the world. We are graced with seeing the best player, ever!
It’s insane how Magnus finds all these ideas and concepts. It’s like playing Stockfish almost lol
Ive been thinking about making a new comparison bar that takes into account how many moves are playable in each position. If you only have one move that wins, your score should be lower than if you have loads of moves that win. That way, finding your way out of a tough position will be more rewarded. The evaluation bar as it is now is basically made for robots.
A human elo. That's pretty cool.

I simply LOVE videos of magnus crushing opponents.
With how Levy milks Manus Carlsen, he will have enough milk to make about 77 cakes in minecraft.
How anyone in this world can look so deep in chess in an endgame
This channel should be named:
*Gotham react to Magnus games.*
Getting to watch this happen in real time is amazing. Magnus is beyond a generational talent and we have the prodigies from India coming into their prime. You gotta love it
Magnus Carlsen is 200 Elo higher than higher than most of them out there .. He plays below or around his Known Elo to play with his opponents until he raises his elo like stockfish
1:45 Thank you. Some of us are struggling with our weight and that little extra bit of inspiration goes a long way. Oh and great chess video! This is possibly one of your best ever videos (pre-covid viewer).
I’m pretty excited about the match against Pia. This should be some good content!
I’m sure Hikaru will cover some of it too. Should be some good stuff!
Top notch commentary on an extraordinary game! Thanks Levy!

Magnus is the type of smartass which will break every single principle / strategy taught to him and still win... ...that's how smart he is
This introduction has to be one of the most detailed yet entertaining narratives!

LOVE FROM INDIA
I love Fisher's Game 6 English opening against Spassky. It's cool to watch this game after watching that game.
I hope someone looks at me the way levy does it with Magnus
Thats the beauty of watching Magnus play, he takes positions you think of in a specific way and he makes you rethink everything and makes you feel how little you actually understand the game compared to him.
Others: "Sorry I've ran out of content"
Levy:
Hey, Levy! Make sure you do lateral raises and really feel them in your delts. Don't just thrust them up with whatever muscles. Even if you have to lower the weight. That's how you progress. Same with all lifts. And don't put off doing tricep isolation work! Things like pushdowns, JM Press, skullcrushers, and overhead extensions are all wonderful movements. Try them out and give them a few tries at least before you write them off. JM Press requires a bit of skill and you need to start with very light weight. I've benched 236 lbs and I still needed to start with ~the bar. Check out how Basement Bodybuilding does them. pronated wrists and that.

I want to learn more about chess and get better, and it's all because of you. Thank you, Gotham.
(Oh yeah, I'm just a regular Filipino kid, thanking Gotham chess so much.)
Magnus endgame skill are literally perfect
Some very strong players played correspondence chess. Back when it took two weeks to get from Europe to America and months to get to Asia/Australia. Those who didnt have the backing or lived in Europe were in correspondence.
Give a GM a week to analyse a move and consider the depth. Check out some of GMC Cecil Purdy's games

This might be the best video you’ve ever produced
magnus not letting you hit 😭😭
The thing about Magnus in these types of games is that he has the knack and composure to play "simple" chess. When Levy went through the whole game in quick succession towards the end of the video, I felt like any half-decent 2000 FIDE-rated player could've played a game like that but in reality, only Magnus can play "simple" chess for 50, 60, even 70+ moves and remain composed. When you think about the game, there is no traditional "brilliancy", just improvement of the pieces, attention to pawn structure, piece activity, good fundamental moves like the rook to the 2nd rank and an active king, infiltrations, etc. He's just applying the basics, even the pawn sacrifice to double Vishy's pawn and f-pawn push at 8:00 in hindsight looks super simple and logical, but how many people would actually do it? Not to mention the completely logical, reasonable, and obvious (in hindsight of course) retreat from the centre with the bishop when offered back the pawn (which was super cold).
The one amazing thing for me in this game is his confidence and calmness to sacrifice material for the "simple" chess. Who else is confident and cold-blooded enough to chuck 3 or 4 pawns away against Vishy and realize "Yeah, I'm boxing in his king and his pieces can do nothing", "Yeah I'm sacrificing a pawn but I have the bishop pair, open lines, and his pawn structure looks ugly as hell"...
Magnus has such a grasp on the fundamentals of chess that as long as the position isn't completely lost, he will "just" play sound moves and slowly out last you (like in this game). Pair that with the ability to play superhuman normal brilliant games as well... One of a kind.
Crow actually has a smooth brain
Pause the video at the beginning to have a staring contest with Gotham
Clicked the like button because Levy finally made a video without a boxing or MMA reference. Must be the lack of food.
I actually thought that in the thumbnail was a rotated flag of Finland instead of brilliancy exclamation marks
This opening is what i would like to call a nailicis defense, othereordly sicilian backwards.
Magnus keeps asking questions and questions and questions until the arbiter comes and says _No talking!_
16:37 Maximize the utility!
This is why Magnus Carlsen is the best chess player of all time when it comes to Endgame.
The sleeveless is Levy’s super saiyan form
This is like analysis of a game where Alpha Zero is playing with white.
Chess is more exciting than a tv series when explained like the way you explain it!
"the only move is g5, it's not even clear why that's the only move" Seems pretty clear to me: it's because all the other moves Black could make involve a piece no longer doing something defensively that is absolutely critical to black's position.
I think there's a lot more mileage in a chess engine that focuses on human play, because Stockfish's evaluation just isn't that useful for most of it, especially not in speed chess. FM Yosha Iglesias actually showed some interesting stuff with regards to her engine Oracle, which is, practically speaking, a hybrid of ChatGPT and Stockfish; combining human-like intuition with engine calculation. I really think there's a lot of ground to be gained there, because while computer chess is interesting, it's also so far ahead of anything we can do as humans that it kinda loses significance.
Hey jokes aside, thank you for saying Anand's name correctly. You were saying it incorrectly for a long time and you corrected it and I appreciate it
Me and my homies love Levy and Magnus 😤😤😤
And here i thought levy was referring to yom kipur when he said he was fasting for 24 hours
Why Magnus Beats Everyone:
Because he's Magnus
the yom kippur fast goes so hard (it makes me hate my life bc i love to eat)
I don’t see how Anand could break the general principle of allowing your opponent’s rook to start the trade. By initiating the rook trade, Anand surrendered the file to Magnus.
I've just always enjoyed Magnus - and your commentary make the games so much more enjoyable, thank you.
Fasting for Yom Kippur as well by any chance? With you as a fellow Jew!! the fast was tough this year - but felt worth it for sure - I also like resetting my stomach so to speak
