  • The first steps in Chassis construction and details on which pieces to extend for a custom length. It is so exciting to bend a piece and just lay it on the jig for tidy storage before notching. Enjoy!

      They support me, they just don’t pay me. That’s okay though, I can make my own money and give you guys honest feedback on the tools I’m using.

    Awesome video KJ! I think this really squared away a lot of questions people would have. It was very informative for me being I’ve never bend a piece of tube in my life. Thanks again brother.

    Hey I just wanted to say, I have watched many of your videos. I really appreciate you showing this and ALSO your natural organic commentary I learned quite a bit. I swear we live in such a scripted world designed to show things in an optimal almost corporate light but does not reflect real world production or "in the garage" thought processes. Your thoughts and opinions are spot on and reflect my own views so it feels good and gives me confidence to buy a tube bender and possibly replicate your ideas (or my own) competently. Lastly in this harbor freight/amazon affiliate link world so much content is training how to build novel hard to replicate silly looking junk. "I found this random unknown CV joint and a lawn mower engine at the bottom of a dumpster, let me show you how I use my china welder to fab this ugly unimpressive POS thing you will never try to replicate = 1,000,000 views" I really like how you also show appreciates for the tube bender and highlight how important it is to use a good tool. I was browsing their website and highly interested! I am big on nice tools, skills + good tools = unstoppable. Thank you for reading. Love it look forward to your go crosscart getting its rear suspension.

    This was extremely helpful. I , too , have a Rouge fab bender . I need to buy more clamp blocks on my next order since I only have 2 1 1/2 " and 2 1 1/4" blocks. I am happy to see the .083 wall thickness bends well without the mandrel bender. I have one of those too but I feel the learning curve for that will be greater.

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 года назад

      It definitely makes a nicer bend with .095 or above. But you can definitely get away with .083 although Rogue does not recommend it. Anything lower will absolutely wrinkle without the mandrel.

    I saved for a while and purchased one. It is built now and all ready for bending the not only my 2 carts. But a friend of mine is building one (different design) and we're gonna do his bends as well. I also purchased extra clamps to make it easy.

      The explanation on how to use the plans for different benders is in the plans and lots of guys willing to help and share their jd2 experience in the plan holders only Facebook group. In short they are all successful 👍

    How did you make sure your notcher lines you've drawn were in the right spot in relation to the clamp blocks? My blocks don't have indexing lines to use as a reference to make sure it's level

      I did a long, strong eyeball on them. The build is pretty forgiving for prefect alignment.

    I have an eastwood hydraulic tube bender do you know what the offsets are between the rouge bender and mine? i started this project with my sons and would really like to make this with them without having to purchase another machine and or also more material due to bad bends. If not, what would you charge to create a new plan for my bender?

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 года назад +1

      Check out the facebook group. There are guys that have used the eastwood bender and jd2. I use 4.5 clr dies. I would love to write a set of plans for every bender but time is always my enemy and riding season is coming right up!

    Hello, I would like to ask you about bending. Which diameter of the matrix do you use for bending pipes of chassis.
    And which kind of bend do you use (2D or 3D)?
    Thank you very much.

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 года назад

      3D as most sanctioned race series requires this. If you check the description, it will give a link to the plans overview where I explain all of this. Thank you 👍

    Do the plans specify what tools one would need to build this? Such as welder, drill, screwdriver, etc?

    Are all the round tubing DOM ? if not what ga are these 1.5 and 1.25 ?

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 года назад +2

      I use .095 because it is less expensive and more common than .083. The hood/windshield is .120 for strength and because it is sleeved and butt welded with 1.25 Dom.

    I bought a SWAG Harbor Freight Bender and I failed to bend a Ariel Atom inspired chassis and it would not bend the DOM tubing. I believe it was 2". I love this bender. I noticed you are not using a mandrel. Does it not matter for the Crosscart? I assume since this is for support, the perfect inside Diameter is not required.
    Here is what the site says: KJ RAYCING PLANS LIST 1.5″ X .083″ TUBING FOR MANY CHASSIS PARTS. THIS SIZE WILL NOT BEND ON OUR 1.5″ X 4.5″ CLR DIE SET WITHOUT A MANDREL ATTACHMENT. YOU WILL NEED TO USE AT LEAST .105″ WALL THICKNESS TUBE FOR ACCEPTABLE BEND QUALITY ON THE 1.5″ X 4.5″ CLR DIE SET

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 месяца назад

      Guys bend .083 all the time. I use .095 so the bends are nicer. You have to realize they are a company that makes tubing benders, they have to advertise what will make a perfect non deformed bend. I’m okay with 5% deformation, you can’t even see it. And you save 10% weight and it’s really easy to weld at that wall thickness.

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  Год назад +1

      I personally would do it in my own shop 😁. That way you are saving a ton of money and you know it’s going to be just the way you want it. A shop would charge you about the same money as getting the tools to build one. I wish you the best!

      Oh I know it can be done that wasn't what the question was he was wandering if the measurements would be the same and they won't be. But once all the bend points are figured out on test bends it'll work just fine.

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 года назад +1

      @@jeremyarnold1979 they will not be the same. Sorry. But that is what the jig is for. Once you get those main pieces the room for error will open up a bit. It was designed that way to be easy to build, but has also led to other benders being a possibility. It will he harder for sure but I couldn’t write plans for every bender out there. I hope you understand.
