I own a Yamaha C3 I bought new in 1985. Other than annual tunings, I've never had to do anything to it , and for the last six years, since I retired, I've been playing it every day. The last two years, I'm up to 2 hours a day. The piano still sounds and looks fantastic. In fact my piano tuner, who is 70 years old and tunes lots of different pianos, always tells me that my Yamaha C3 is one of his favorites. Interestingly, my son bought a brand new 6' Steinway a couple years ago and when my wife and I heard it we both instantly agreed that the Yamaha sounded significantly better. Funny thing is my piano tuner always said that he tunes quite a few Steinways that don't sound as good as my C3. Now I see what he meant. I hope Richard enjoys his new piano as much as I enjoy mine.
The Yamaha have been a fixture in most major studios mainly due to consistency. A artist can play one in England and then in America, and it will sound and feel mostly the same .
The climate in North America is different to other places and to my knowledge you build pianos a little bit differently to adapt for that specific climate. Hope this helps.

Aaron, Quick question... What is the difference between Yamahas that were specifically made for the US market and those that were not?
