How to Test Fuel Pumps with a Scanner / Direct Injection Fuel Pressure Test using Autel Scanner

- I show how to test fuel pumps with a scanner using the direct injection fuel pressure test on the Autel scanner - MP808TS; an active scan tool. This test is done on the Honda Accord 2013 - 2017 with the GDI engine. If you're wondering how to test fuel pumps with a scan tool or how to test fuel pump without a gauge, or will scanner detect a bad fuel pump, or how to tell if you have a bad fuel pump, this video should help. Signs of bad fuel pump can look like other faults in the car. To test fuel pumps on direct injection engines a bi-directional scanner such as the Autel MP808TS, is required because of the high pressure pump (secondary pump). A regular fuel pressure test is not feasible given the extremely high pressure on this second fuel pump. GDI engines have 2 fuel pumps. @@DIYAutoworksNG oh wow, just saw this, it's a kia cerato 07, 1.6L engine G4FC(hyundai gamma), throttle was lagging whenever i pressed it and it would stall at slow speeds with the ac on(very frustrating in a manual), even after doing new plugs, new air and fuel filter, new map sensor, cleaned throttle body, serviced injectors, serviced cvvt solenoid and filter, it persisted.
There was no valve on the fuel rail so i couldn't test the pressure, I ended up just changing the entire fuel sending unit to fix the issue, so i guess the fuel pressure was low all the while.
Anyway, thanks for your time man, really appreciate the work you're doing on this channel.

I can’t perform this test on my sisters 535xi, 2011 if I wanted too. The car will crank but not start, it has a brand new battery in it too.
I have no idea if it’s a Failed HPFP or what it could be. The car had a bad EKPS Module and I replaced with a working one and coded it to the car successfully, car ran fine for 3 days then just stopped abruptly and never turned on again.
Any codes in the EKPS module now? If the HPFP fails in this manner, I would expect a code or 2.
Does the car have any freeze frame data you could check for any recording of fuel pressure reading?

The MP808TS is sold via several channels including Amazon and Aliexpress. I include links in the video description. Others to recommend will depend on your scanning needs and budget among other things. Let me respond to this more fully on the other question you asked on a different video.

I guess your subscription ran out before the MK808TS was updated to become bidirectional. You'll need to purchase a license to get the update.

Totally understand. Lol. It's really down to how the manufacturer designed the active test. Not sure the HDS will even display fuel pressure numbers in this test.

Once it's out of spec; acceptable working threshold, the scanner will flag it as bad.
Can it be tested if the vehicle will not start and run ?
No you can't use this particular test. However, if the car uses the CAN protocol and above, you could get a sense by reading the fuel pressure sensor value in live data just with the ignition on. It's not definitive but should help. Also we shouldn't forget using a traditional fuel pressure tester if the car is not direct injection. There kits you can connect to the fuel hose that leads to the fuel rail, and read the pressure from there.
I love you channel and I understand what you're saying but these tests that are being done by autel seem to be tested you're just turning it on and off that doesn't relate to the pressure on the load conditions unless you're turning the car on with engine running

I totally get your point, however, that it tests each of the pumps over a period, I rather think it evaluates the fuel pump under a variety of conditions. Remember, the car must not have to be on for the tool to test performance under load. The tool can command the fuel pump to run at a certain rate to simulate driving under load even though the car is of. Finally, this test was developed by Honda and Autel simply replicated the test from the proprietary Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) which is the in-house Honda solution. I'd like to think that Honda considered testing under load while designing this test.

I need a scan tool that will activate the fuel pump so I can purge old gas from my 2013 camaro. It's frustrating not being able to find an easier way of doing this. You can't siphon from the tank due to the rollover ball/ valve and the fuse pump relay is not easily accessible to do a bypass so last resort is a scan tool.

@@DIYAutoworksNG I've got 3/4 of a tank maybe a shade under. It's shell 89 octane non ethanol mid grade treated with star tron fuel stabilizer. Some of the gas in there is 4 yrs old since I don't drive it often. I hooked up my fuel pressure tester and what little came out still smells like fresh fuel and has that golden piss color to it.
I see. Good thing you added the stabiliser, if not anything, it should take care of water. Was going to suggest adding a gas restore product but you already got that covered. Plus 4 years seems like a long time. Just curious did you try to turn it over?
@@DIYAutoworksNG not yet, being over cautious and don't want to harm the engine. I ran it last year to drive it for state inspection but haven't since then. I couldn't tell if there was any detonation since I was driving at low speeds (
