    The song was written in close collaboration by Richard and Till. Everyone interprets the song differently, but roughly you can say that it's about the feeling of not being loved by the mother. Till actually has a good relationship with his mother. Richard himself repeatedly said in interviews that he never had a good relationship with his mother and that he had never felt loved by her.

      I see, I see. I'm surprised Richard didn't participate in the video then. That's explained in the Making Of though.

    The song is about cloning and its possible psychological effects on the clone.
    For me personally the most difficult Rammstein song to understand. There's so much poetry in there. Not very easy to unravel and translate into "normal german".
    I'm not exactly sure, but I think the song was the answer to Dolly the clone sheep. At that time they managed to clone a sheep.

    • @ArGeRa
      @ArGeRa 3 года назад +5

      You're right. Dolly was the inspiration. They used cells of an adult sheep ("old children" -> just born but already old [cells]) to clone.
      When this song was released Dolly was already "born" but there was a discussion because Dolly gets old very quick.
      Congruously she died early with old age diseases.

      I, also, found the subject out of left field for Rammstein. It's very "sciency".

      @@xsezz It is long ago but I think I can remember. I've checked out and German Wikipedia tells something quite similar about Dolly. She died with 6 years and had some serious sings of aging. The normal life expectancy is about 12-20 years.

    • @xsezz
      @xsezz  3 года назад +3

      @@ArGeRa Yeah, apparently it died early. Then again, it was one of the first experiments with cloning... that we know of.

    Rammstein's Frankenstein theme.
    It's pretty clear to me that it's about creating artificial humans in the lab.

    This video is in the time were Rammstein almost split up, that’s one of the reason why Till is alone in the video, you’ll see that all the band act in their videos but in this no, the band didn’t wanted to record the video. The 9/11 affect a lot in this almost split up. All this is in the “In Amerika” documental, highly recommended.
    Sorry for my english, i’m from Chile

    For me, the most important message is the turmoil of a being that lacks an emotional connection and love to a parent/mother. Artificial birth might be one explanation for the lack of connection (inspired by the sheep Dolly (1996-2003)).
    But for all we know, the song could also refer to "Mother Russia" and one of her "children" GDR (Both East and West Germany as a buffer and a plaything during the Cold War, etc.). (very abstract interpretation, but still possible)
    I think that is the great thing about their lyrics. They never tell you what to think and believe straightaway. Everything is ambiguous, packed into neat (open) packages of imaginary and symbols and if you take the time to analyze their narrative, you can find interesting twists, insights and interpretations (due to your own life experience) that might not have been intended, but the person might grow intellectually anyway by just reflecting on certain topics.

    It took me a while before getting the eel in hearlungs, part, but after reading some comments about it it makes sense (to me at least) that there's an eel living in her lungs as she's dead and drowned in the river. It could of course just mean that she's rotten on the inside, lol.

    Alex did a wonderful job with this one, wow!
    I think he was created artificially and never got any love growing up, making him bitter? Swearing to kill his "mother", and even remove the birthmark ("muttermal") so that nothing reminds him of her anymore.

      @@arnodobler1096 Yes, I believe that something like this was the main idea of this video, but I meant something else - one of the main features of Rammstein is that they have gained worldwide recognition in modern English-speaking culture not least because of their live performances and videos which usually give some hints to viewers (most of whom do not understand German) to understand the main idea without understanding the text or at least push them to google it. For example, as a fan of their work, I know what the song is about and I understand the message of this video, but if I were a person who just came across the video in the RUclips recommendations and watched it, I would catch too little from it. That's why I say that compared to their other videos, this one does not contain as many interesting interpretations of the text or allusions (as most of the previous or subsequent ones) and makes a less intense impression, as each of their videos tells a full mini-story, but here - there is simply no complete picture.
