  • Highlights from Georgia Tech's 1990 season. Georgia Tech ended the 1990 season as the only undefeated team in Division 1A to win its 4th national championship. Wins included a 41-38 thriller over #1 UVA and a 45-21 blowout of Nebraska in the Citrus Bowl.

Georgia Tech should've been the outright champion. It was a classic case of college football putting name brand over results. Colorado tied with Tennessee and lost to an Illinois team that didn't even win a weak Big 10. Plus you have the dubious 5th down and that bogus clipping penalty against Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl. Colorado went 5-1-1 against top 25 teams, Georgia Tech went 4-0, including beating the #1 team in the country on the road. It's a lot of splitting hairs, but the fact that Colorado lost AND tied once is the difference IMHO. Especially when we all know the Missouri game was a loss

Colorado had a loss I will give you that, but Colorado's loss was only a 1 point loss (23-22) on the road to a Top 25 team ( at #21 Illinois). Colorado's strength of schedule was better than Georgia Tech's. Colorado played 6 teams in the regular season that were ranked in the top 25. Georgia Tech played only 3 teams in the regular season that were ranked in the top 25. Colorado won 4 games against top 25 opponents during the regular season and 2 of them were on the road (at #22 Texas, at #3 Nebraska, #12 Washington, #22 Oklahoma). Georgia Tech won 3 games against Top 25 teams during the regular season and only 1 was on the road. (#25 South Carolina, #15 Clemson, at #1 Virginia). Colorado's tie was to a better opponent (#8 Tennessee) compared to Georgia Tech's tie ( unranked North Carolina) Colorado beat a better opponent in their bowl game (#5 Notre Dame). Georgia Tech's bowl opponent was (#19 Nebraska) Even though Colorado had a loss and it wasn't a bad loss they should have been the outright champion based off a tougher schedule, a better bowl opponent, and a better tie.

People are making too big of deal out of this 5th down Missouri game. Colorado was trying to run an opinion attack with a backup quarterback on crappy Omniturf Astroturf. Colorado was slipping all game long. Had they played with their starting quarterback or had the field been in better shape Colorado would have put more points on the board and the game most likely would not have come down to the final 5th down play. Also on that final drive on right before Colorado started the series of 5 downs Colorado's tight end caught a pass and had no one between him and the end zone as he turned up field he slipped on the 3 yard line. He would have scored on a better field. Missouri's advantage (Colorado playing with a back-up quarterback on crappy turf) equals out Colorado advantage (The Ref's giving Colorado a 5th down) Colorado should not have won that game because the Ref's and chain gang screwed up and gave Colorado an extra down, but the game should not have come down to that series of 5 downs because of Missouri's crappy Astroturf.

You are also forgetting the phantom block in the back to save their ass in the bowl game as well as Nebraska being the only common opponent and the coach voted for Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech will always be the true 1990s national champions.

I don't see what you saw in Colorado that would be Tech that year. Tech was a fine tuned machine by the end of the year. 1990 was one of my favorite years in college football. Incidentally, while GT was winning the national championship, their ACC foe Virginia was defeated in the Sugar Bowl later that night by my Tennessee Vols 23-22, after the Cavs had led the first 59:30 of the game! I regret missing out on the UT/GT rivalry, discontinued after 1987. I'd love to see that game put back on the schedule someday.

Colorado would have killed GA Tech. Notre Dame would have beaten GA Tech. Colorado BEAT Nebraska which was #3 and IN Lincoln, while GA Tech beat Nebraska in a Neutral site. GA Tech represents Atlanta while Colorado University is in Denver Area. Denver> Atlanta. Denver is a healthier and better city than Atlanta. Atlanta is HIV capitol and one of the unhealthiest cities in America. Lots of fat people in Georgia. I also recall Denver beating Atlanta in Super Bowl 33. Even if Denver played Minnesota in that Super Bowl, Denver would have still won. Atlanta just made it easier for us. Atlanta is 0-2 in Superbowls and in their recent loss to New England. Denver won their Super Bowl 50 just last year. Atlanta cant beat New England while Denver is the ONLY team to have a winning record vs Tom Brady. All these facts I stated are TRUE. And Colorado was still better than GA Tech in football. Heck, Air Force (A Colorado team) also beat GA Tech in a bowl game in 2010.

How are your Atlanta Hawks doing right now? YEAH, that's right, they are one of the WORST teams in the NBA and my Denver Nuggets BEAT the Hawks 138-93 on November 15, 2018. 45 points, laughing my fucking ass off! And who won the Super Bowl 33 in 1999. Yeah thats right it was the Broncos 33 Atlanta 19 and Atlanta really didn't have much of a chance in that game to start with. And how about the Atlanta Braves. MY Colorado Rockies SWEPT the Braves this season in Atlanta and has taken the series from the Braves the last 3 years. And even Air Force Academy (another Colorado team) football beat Georgia Tech in a bowl game in 2010. Oh by the way, the Falcons COULDN'T hold a 28-3 lead vs New England in that Super Bowl 51 LMFAO again. Talk about embarrassing. They just gave Matt Ryan a big payment and clearly he is NOT worth the amount they paid him. At least the Broncos are the only team to have a winning record vs Tom Brady. Atlanta has never beaten New England. Yes, I know, there are a lot of fat and obese people in Georgia. I am from Colorado and Denver and Colorado Springs are two of the healthiest cities in America and BEST places to live. I am 42 years old, Phantom and OLDER than you.
