I sure feel lucky to be one of the fortunate few to have picked up one of these underappreciated gems! I got mine from the trade ins at a local Long and McQuade retailer here in Canada, and though it appeared brand new, technically it was used, and I got it for the nearly criminally low price of $499 CDN, possibly lower as it was several years ago, and it is an excellent guitar. I am happy to still have it!
I just picked mine up earlier at a guitar center. It was used, but exactly what I was looking for; semi-hollow body, p90 pickups. It was already set up and is just so smooth to play.
These are indeed great guitars. I first found one when I was working at Guitar Center and to my surprise I had played nearly everything in the store and this guitar sounded better than many guitars that were thousands of dollars more expensive. For example I wathed a guy come in and he was playing a 4500 dollar PRS guitar and I was playing one of these guitars beside him on an Orange Rockerverb amp and he immediately put the other guitar up and asked what the guitar I was playing was and commented on how excellent it sounded. He bought the modern player deluxe thinline telecaster that day instead of the PRS because it sounded as good or better and costs way less. Another thing to point out is that the frets on it were flawless and it has a tiny neck that is easy to run scales on or make complex jazz chords and especially useful for smaller hands or people with shorter and stubbier fingers. I am about to pick my Modern Player Deluxe Thinline Telecaster in a few days and will likely modify it by putting a Tusq XL nut on it, either American saddles or G&L brass saddles ( they have 6 brass mini-barrel saddles on the ASAT models ), maybe schaller locking tuners or fender locking tuners, and I am considering swapping out the P-90s with Seymour Duncan Stacked P-90s and replacing the volume pots with bourns low friction pots and the tone pots with push / push pots for splitting the stacked P-90s between humbucker and true P-90 all of which will be noiseless at that point. These are my ideas for now. I am not sure if changing the wiring in it will make a difference but I am wanting to take an already great guitar and make it into an amazing guitar. For the price doing these upgrades is a small investment but will likely produce a tele that sounds and plays better than many telecasters that cost way way more. Who cares if it is Chinese. This guitar is awesome as is even without modd'ing it. Just imagine if it was upgraded with the right upgrades. This thing would become a beast of a guitar.
A comfortable neck is important I have smallish hands, but surprisingly I find a thick Gibson neck with satin finish more comfortable than a C-shape Fender, now that I am used to it. The narrow neck has plusses and minuses.
i can play an epiphone les paul and make 99% of guys playing top end custom shop gibsons come over swooning asking what im playing as well,(ive done the same thing with offbrand plywood super strats)its the player not the guitar.if a guitar is set up well, the action and intonation are good and it has decent pickups and electronics then you or i (and definitely Greg)can make it sound marvelous.high end guitars are mainly a myth/misleading /misconception and something people constantly over pay for because they have a misconception that an expensive guitar will make them play better.it will not,it might motivate a person to play longer or learn but it isnt going to make you magically a better player, thats just silly.
I had my telecaster rewired and replaced the pots with 500k pots and tone rider vintage P90's.A bone nut and locking tuners. Its a really nice guitar and they have put the price up by £100 since I bought mine.
I’ve always been a American made snob with my fender’s but I bought this guitar and love it. I was also lucky enough to get mine with a beautiful flamed maple neck it’s an amazing guitar. Only thing I did was fit a Tusq nut.
I have found the Squire equivalent 2nd hand tested it and toke it home. Its a Squire made in Indonesië. Sounds real great. Its had that ump that i miss in other teles...
I have the same guitar. great tone. great playing my man. the only thing I did to mine was put an orange drop capacitor in it. I do that to all my guitars.
I would think every unit of this particular guitar model would have the same Seymour Duncan P90 pickups. However, that’s what I get for thinking/assuming.
I don't know, but I think you can make a turd sound good, but that playing was so freaking awesome. My life would be complete to be able to play that well. Nice job!
Agree. after getting more n a fair share of every super fast, over distorted version of some kinda (??) whatever.. Enjoy just hearing some nice playing (with taste). Of course I am looking at some variation of this for my "next project"
The only bad thing about these modern player series telecasters is they have 22 fret necks with no overhang so they arent compatible with replacement tele necks, G&L necks will work with some sanding but in most cases the only option is a refret when the frets are worn.
I have one of these beautiful sounding guitars. Only difference is he plays so much better than I do. LOL. well actually 2 differences, my P/U's have cream colored covers on the P90's. I really think it looks so much different/nicer. Unfortunately I don't play that much anymore, have thought about putting it up on the auction block but will see.
Josh, I have the same guitar only with cream colored P/U covers. I have the same pickguard. I got mine used in a trade for a Hagstrom so can't say if they came with it but i'm guessing yes.
Greg is great! I'm going to grab one of these, or maybe the Jim Adkins, which do you prefer? - the new golden age of Chinese guitars starts here though 😎
yes, i have a MIM tele deluxe and both the MIC modern player tele models the MIM is heaver than the MIC. the MICs were also dirty (sawdust in the cavities etc, rusty strings) out the box. but generally the MICs are good guitars at that price point. the tele+ is my new go to
Just bought One. Warmmmmm. You rimshot it a bit thin. Put some meat and verb on it. Its messing up the track and the axe. otherwise as usual, you make all axes sound good. What are you playing through in these videos
I'm thinking of getting one of these but how am i supposed to hear the sound when somebody is playing too good... I'm pretty sure this guy will make the cheapest guitar available sound like a custom shop...lol
@@Shred_The_Weapon I wish it was, but have been hearing way too diferent tones on semihollows, the one sound guitar I'm absolutely in love with is the thinline that Paul Davids bought, a NAMM 2018 Thinline 50's
I was so close to getting this and dopping a pair of lollar firebird "minihumbuckers" in her....and then have some artist devise something like the red firebird cartoon eagle scribble design from the Gibson firebird models (y'know the red ßcribble on the white scratch plate is.).....but make it portray the amalgamation of the Gibson/Fender Firebird/Telecaster somehow. Call it my Gender Firecaster.... or a my Fibson Telebird. Thought that could have been Super, Uber, Baddass..[..insert hackneyed adjective here]. But upon hearing the ROAR!! of the p90's, it can't, in good conscience, be done! Not if you want to go to Heaven, that is !!🤟😂
Why do u need a pedal for that little of dirty tone? Can’t u just start on a dirty tone and turn down the volume on the guitar halfway for a clean tone?
Gibson, Fender, Gretsch, Ibanez, ecc. ecc.... le tue chitarre con questi PEDALI, suonano tutte UGUALI...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tu sei un Gran chitarrista, ma purtroppo questi video suonano tutti allo stesso modo... :(
Forget the guitar demo: the music is some of the most beautiful I've ever heard! Wow!
I agree
I agree
it's a guitar play along jam, on RUclips, it's all electronic
I agree, I often come back here just to listen to the music
your musical experience must be very limited
The Best backing track! I never find this peace of art. And Greg like aways, playing with perfection.
The P90's really give this Tele some dimensions. They make the Vahlbruch shine. A great demo from Greg - Thanks.
There are many guitarists on the Internet, but you can listen to this endlessly. Virtuoso!!!

Greg's playing is always so exquisite.
Just ordered one today because of this demo, can't wait for it to arrive
do you still have it ?
Man, you make every guitar sound good.
Love the mic stand at 1:38 !!! Great tone and playing!!!
Haha placed on a dead corpse teddy bear. Lol
Incredible music, and a great demo of that Jim Adkins Telecaster.
I just got one and I absolutely love it! After playing a Squier Strat Mini for ten years this feels too good to be true.
He can make anything sound great!
I love it! Using the whole neck to create extreme pleasing melodicness to a backing track that is so plain until you took aholt of it.
this is the feeling i love it in guitar
Best demo I've ever seen on youtube
Beautiful playing!

Ha, he probably didn't even buy it. If you're going to change that much stuff you can make almost any guitar great.
+Derrick Sullivan, those P-90s sound good tho.

wow, elegant play and tone dude
love that Fat loud tone, great for melodious song...
I once saw Greg pick up a broom stick and all of a sudden it was playing the blues !!
I just bought this guitar at Guitar Center. Great video! This guitar sounds better than anything I heard you play. Amazing!
Sir, you could make a 2x4 plank sound musical. Love your stuff. Many thanks.
Obviously...I gather youve never plugged a 2x4 into a vintage vibroverb...lol

As always superb musicianship!

Just traded in a Fender acoustic, plus some cash, for one of these . Amazing Fender grunt, with the P90's,which is what I wanted
Me encanta esta viola
What's name about the song
Hi
What is the backing track pls?
Sad to say I owned one of these and sold it waaay too cheap... those P90 tones are rockin'
me too
Great use of a simple scale to make an amazing sounding track
Great tone 🇨🇦🙏

i like this galactic tone
Greg, I notice you have videos on both the Jim Adkins version of tele with P90's and the Chinese one here. How would you compare the 2?
0:33 is what I can the epic face of tone.
I take it this guitar sold quickly. I’ve now figured out it’s one worth having.
Whats the value of that guitar and what did it cost new
Great sounding Ax Greg, but its in the hands of a master guitarist,, I love your music...Cheers.. Wayne..
Amazing Guitar and cheap
Apesar que nas mãos do Greg, qualquer guitarra barata se transforma em uma Custom shop
Sweet!
Never knew that Hank Moody is an awesome guitar player!
What is that triple pickup SG copy in the background of the video?
I think is a triple pickup SG copy in the background
Got a link to the backing track?
Another emotional guitar solo and a very warm sound...does it come from the P90's ?
Got one...great bargains. I have a video on here of it.
Is this the JA or a different model?
Did you have to get a custom pickguard for those pups?
Josh, I have the same guitar only with cream colored P/U covers. I have the same pickguard. I got mine used in a trade for a Hagstrom so can't say if they came with it but i'm guessing yes.
Sorry I couldn't concentrate as I was blinded By the stitching in your trousers
Not in those pants!
HaHa :)
Lo, thanks for the comment! I thought I was the only one who had that thought.
Just picked up one of these today and my P90's do not sound like that at all. Maybe the strings are dead
just a pleasure to listen you man! tell me please it pickups is chinese too ?
What Fenders are these? Shouldn't the Asian ones be Squiers? Anyway, great sound, the p90 + hollow is right up my alley.
It's part of the Modern Player series. All made in China.

Sounds great. What do you mean? Pickups or guitar made in China?
The guitar is made in Fender's only Factory in China.
