setting a 10 minute timer for an piece really helps
Thank you so much for this video. I've been playing for about 4 years, mostly romantic style with no pains or anything but I tried to learn Mozart sonata in C for 2.5 hours the other day. I now realise I am mortal haha.
Had a slightly sore hand for a few days now, just trying to rest up and hope to come back a little humbled and with a closer focus on form and relaxation. This video helps me see some of my mistakes, thank you again!!! ❤
Omg you just described everything I do to the T😱 no wonder I look like I work way too hard when I see myself play piano. Thanks for your excellent videos, You have no idea how much you have helped lot of us.
If you want to get better at piano, I can't recommend Allysias course more. It has helped me tremendously.
Great webinar. This might be the only piano learning channel that gives a webinar. Thanks.
This was an excellent webinar!!! Thanks, Allysia. I have learned so much from you.
Hello Allysia. Great video. congratulations. The content you upload is very necessary and useful. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing this webinar Allysia. Tension for me tends to happen in my back, neck and shoulders, probably due to habit of a bad posture. You've reminded me that I need to pay more attention to my posture to avoid all that tension. Also, I'm usually guilty of "pushing through the pain" - I ought to take breaks more often.
Wow thank you
around 15:00 and generally, you also lead with the elbow, or follow with the elbow, meaning that the upper arm is freely suspended from the shoulder joint, free to float in space..., (just to mention explicitly, )
hi 👋
this is great 👍 👌 👏 😄 🙌
not followed your channel for a while... but this now is really good 👍 thank you
Thanks for this
but how do i avoid existential dread while at the piano
avoid seeing people having success at the piano and just focus on your own progress. never compare yourself to others but only to yourself. think about where you were a year ago or a month ago and see how far youve come. for example last year i was finished with arabesque no. 1 and op 25 no 1 and now i finished op 48 no 1 and when i think about how a year ago i thought it was impossible for me to learn op 48 no 1 here i am now having it all memorized and playing it decently.
Pray to God and improve yourself for confidence. There's no other solution
Thank you! Love Baremboim too
Great video and such an important topic! Learning to reduce unnecessary tension not only makes playing so much more enjoyable but reduces injury. Thanks much!
Very nice subject and nicely shown and explained! Don't know if you know the masterclasses by Hungarian pianist Gyorgy Sebok, but he explains this concept brilliantly, I always refer my students to it. You can find them on youtube I think as well if you're interested :)
What about Czerny op 299 etudes? I was assigned #9 and it's really hard so I have to practice. Thank you for the content.
will you make videos for more advanced players
should be mandatory watching for every one in CPP you rule
43:00
i cant find ease i try and try and try soooooo hard
Look for an experienced teacher to help with it. You get props for acknowledging the problem.
Important information for sure, but way too drawn out in this one. 25 minutes to cover finger relaxation and posture. Just too many words. I watch your videos a lot and really enjoy them so please don't take this too critically, but I just can't make it through this one. Just too many words to say so little. Sorry, but thanks for the effort.
The reason is because its a serious issue. Doing it right is felt .. and to convey that to people who are new is difficult. And knowing that they get it is difficult for the teacher because we have no way to really know until the student says something about the problem (by which point is hard to reverse the bad habit). The mechanism is underneath. That is also the reason why one cannot just watch and study how its done. Its not something observable unless there is a teacher to make a point of it.
Fatigue vs tension was a good distinction.
