    Doris, I absolutely love this episode! I have always been ENAMORED with Bob Mackie gowns and costumes! As a former beauty Queen, I can truly say for myself, once I put on a beaded and sequined gown, I was hooked for life!!! I bead a lot of my clothing. It’s my signature. I even made a gown for myself that Nolan Miller made for Linda Evans when she starred on Dynasty. It was lots of handwork, but it was superb! Thank you so very much! I so enjoyed this episode!!!!❤️❤️❤️

    I am such an admirer of Bob Mackie and his creativity. My most favorite interview of his is when he designed costumes for Carol Burnette. The story behind the Gone With The Wind parody he designed (the drapes dress) is HILARIOUS!!!

    It’s really incredible how Mackie was able to perfectly capture the essence of the superstars he was designing for in these illustrations; it really speaks to his talent as an artist and designer.
    Amazing video as always, Doris! It’s such a privilege to be able to tag along with you as you explore iconic fashion and pop culture history!

    These are all so iconic. Madonna is probably best known for wearing JP Gaultier, but that dress Mackie designed for her for the Oscars is legendary, and his work for Cher is sublime. Half Breed is problematic, but you have to admit that outfit is gorgeous.

    Amazing! I didn't know that Bob Mackie works for Jean Louis who create the statuesques "wind dresses" for Marlène Dietrich's Las Vegas show in the 1950's (the original idea of the naked illusion dress comes from a mousseline dress he did for her for the movie 1930's movie MORROCO ). I understand better the Jean Louis influence on Mackie's. Always a great pleasure to see you and hear you.❤ from France.

    • @CuirPhotodotNet
      @CuirPhotodotNet 3 года назад

      ...OMG...there was a big scandal about it...basically a LOT of what BOB made for CHER...were direct ripoffs of what JEAN LOUIS made for MARLENE...she was so mad that she would call JL...to try to get him to SUE BOB....she HATED BOB AND CHER....

    Love this vid about Bob M. When I was in college I was in some sort of spring fashion show in Illinois 1976 and I got to wear a Bob M gown. There were several there, it was a bridal show and they needed relatively tall girls (me at 5’9”) and the gowns were all breathtakingly beautiful, very elaborate and heavily beaded. Truly magnificent designs. I didn’t know anything about fashion then but I remember the name and the gowns. Amazing sketches! 🤗❤️👍 LtCol Lorna

    Ok I have been a fan of these videos for a long time. I have some catching up to do. You look amazing. Your personal wardrobe choices are fabulous. You keep us engaged with your sincerity. You are such a fan of beautiful clothing and your heart is so in the right place. I used to go to a shop in Las Vegas called Suzy Cream Cheese. It was my introduction to vintage outside of thrift stores. She was mean and my heart would pound when I walked in the door but I wanted my vintage fix and I took it for as long as I could. She knew I wasn't able to afford the cloths I was only 13 or 14 taking the bus to her shop from my home in a not so affluent neighborhood. I think I still carry some of that when I walk in doors here in Los Angeles. Your shop always scared me but when I finally went in your staff was warm and friendly. They had tons of knowledge and easy laughs. I had a wonderful time and was so glad I went in. Thank you for these videos. I love learning. I was a costume designer in the 80's and 90's before I became a massage therapist. Now I am going back to my roots due to social distancing. You keep me excited about it.

    One of the dresses he did for Cher (I don’t know if it was for “Sonny & Cher” or “Cher”) but I’ll never forget it, because I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. It was white with clusters of purple grapes on it. I think it simply had spaghetti straps so they didn’t take anything away from the form fitting gown. I’d have to say that out of all of the gowns he did for her it is my favorite,and that is saying something. Also, Happy New Year to you as well. Thanks for this video. What memories for your viewers.

    How extraordinary! Thank you so much hon. I was always told Mitzi Gaynor was what we call in today’s parlance a micro-managing type of lady! I did not know he had the rare opportunity to work under such an impressive and sometimes imposing little gal!
    At 11:13 ish I realize I may have some fabric almost identical to the black bejeweled piece, minus the jewels. It isn’t lined, I think it draped over a shell at one time. Maybe I should get a lil more organized, ya think? I love my Bob Mackie!

    Bob Mackie is a great designer, in part, because understands what’s needed for to facilitate movement for dancing or the physicality of a comic sketch, for example. Also has a sense of humor and a sense of comedy; think of the curtain rod dress for Carol Burnett‘s Scarlett O’Hara skit as well as Mrs. Wiggins pencil skirt design so that Carol had to walk with her rear end stuck out. Those sketches would’ve never been the same without that. Design actually helped immensely with the comedy.

    You use the word " genius " when speaking of Bob Mackie ! A perfect description of his work ! Working g with Edith Head must have I influenced Mr. Mackie with enhancing the female form ! I really like to do my own beading on my designs ! I know I could send a big project to India or China for beading , but that would have to be an elaborate design ! I do a quarter scale first of a beaded design then scale up ! Something people need to know if your beading g a design, you need bags of the beads your design requires ! I have found a forging fabric that is not netting. I can use a French needle or a latch needle and no holes ! I think it's great when your a designer and your given the space to be free in designing ! But I always learn something new from your channel ! You bring the designs to life with your research and concepts to show the clothing lines ! It's always a pleasure to watch you and what treasures you have in the shop ! Cheers .
