I don't like that, it removes a great theme about the individuals in a team creating the force not the main power, Luffy made his devil fruit stronger through abilities, a devil fruit believed to be worthless in combat. But additionally he can't cook, he can't Navigate, he can't fix stuff but what he can do is kick ass for his team. Shanks and his crew are not much without their crew, on their own they're just strong pirates but as a team they're of one of deadlest crews out there. Even with him crippled he's able to survive because he puts faith in his crew which mutually do aswell. Him having a devil fruit takes away that unique aspect of luffy's hero.
