Theres a special place for those who put part numbers in their videos. Ive looked up and down for that part and couldnt find it. You sir are a gentleman and a scholar.
I used that part number and found it
Major thanks for this video!!! We have a 2010 jeep patriot that had the same issue. Worst part it is now 3/11/2019 at 11 pm and our shift cable came out of place. Thanks to your video, we were able to get the center council out and at least put the cable back on to put it in gear so we can park it. It was a major issue. It had gotten stuck out in the garage area blocking our neighbor's cars from going to work the next day. You are a blessing tonight. Mind you it was also raining! All bad.. Thanks again! You saved us from having to paying a great amount of money just to get it towed to our parking spot. (Which was only 25 ft away. Just our luck..) God bless you, and I will make sure to like and subscribe.
I knew the moment I heard your accent I could trust your mechanical advice. Great video. Worked nearly the same for my 2010 Jeep Compass
Lol....never heard the accent helped with trust lol. I will except it. Appreciate the great feedback and make sure to subscribe!
Excellent video. This helped my neighbor with the same situation described. A big hug from Puerto Rico.
Glad that I could help. Always cool to hear how the videos help out. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe
I found, in our 2008 Patriot, the same Macaroni Cheese Noodle on the carpet too :). I paid $9 for the part at the local dealer, it took less than 30 minutes to replace the bushing which included a good cleaning of the consoles and carpet, thanks to this instructional video.
I did not have to use any grease or a pair of pliers, was able to finger snap it in, kinda glad too, not sure if the grease would be good for the bushing over time, may break down the plastic/rubber, though maybe a little grease for the pivot ball would have been good, time will tell.
THANK YOU very much for saving me time And money...
Awesome....glad it was a simple fix and nothing bigger then that. Thanks for reaching out and for letting me know how it worked out. Make sure to subscribe and check out my other videos.
what was the part number??
Thanks! Description of problem was exact repair went exactly as described.. I have used many repair videos in the past and this one was one of the best at discrbing issue and got right to the point on how to repair. Thanks again.
Many many thanks for the kind words. Always great to hear feedback on the video details. Glad that the video helped and got the vehicle back on the road. Make sure to subscribe
To anyone else this might help out, I believe this just happened to my wife’s Jeep Compass 2010 - shifter came loose in a parking lot, needed to get it loaded onto a trailer, but couldn’t get it on bc it was in reverse and she had shut it off. To get the vehicle home safely so you can work on it, very easily you can pull out the engine air filter compartment and underneath that is a lever that will shift the gears. Pull it all the way to the front to get it in park, turn on vehicle, put it in drive and drive up on trailer or reinstall engine filter compartment and drive home!!
Man thank you so much cuz mine just broke today at my parents house so I'll be getting it fixed tomorrow thank you you're awesome
Just glad you found the video and now you know what to do. Thanks for the comment
thank you for this video. It matches my 2008 patriot. saved me a lot of money. the part number was the same. again Much Appreciation!
Awesome. Glad it worked. Guess I need to update what other vehicle it works on. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe
MotorCity Mechanic is there any way to move to drive with your hands this happened on my only vehicle 2007 jeep patriot so i need to drive to get the part and do they sell this at Napa or auto zone?
It can be done but it takes two people. One inside with the engine running and with the brakes depressed so that it takes take off when placed in drive. You wont have reverse and when you cut it off....you will need to use the e-brake to hold it until you move it back to park. You need to access the top of the trans where the cable attaches to the link. Move it there until the indicator inside shows "drive". Just take care as I mentioned so as to not hurt yourself or something or someone else when moving the linkage.
Thx for the reply have a friend that drives a tow truck picked it up and it's going to fix it for me
Cool. Nothing like playing it safe. Its one of those jobs that actually be done right where is stopped at if you have the part and some simple tools. Thanks for the question and for following the channel Larry.
I just want to say thank you... because you showed the part number I saved 350ish I'd imagine... my garage got some shitty assistance from the dealer they work with said I'd need to replace the whole fucking cable... found your video saw the part number... called my guys back they called and reamed them out... $20 now thank you immensely
Awesome. Some times it comes to an uniformed parts person. Glad that I could share the info and save you some money. Thanks for watching and for the comment. Make sure to subscribe and Merry Christmas

Thanks for sharing this video, im sure it will be something similar to my caliber 2008 now i know and mechanics will not make a robbery when they estimate this repair.

Wanted to say thanks for the DIY. It was perfect. However I had a loose shifter with as much play as your video. When I took it apart the bushing was fine, no cracks or anything, still attached. only out $3 bucks. Threw it in the glove box for the future. Is there a way you can tell 100% that is the problem. It had 100k miles on it. Thanks
Usually there are other issues as well such as no start/crank or will not change gears. An inspection at both ends of the cable would be recommended. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe
Thank you so much for this video it was a great help
I just fixed mine which is a 2009. The process is a bit different since they changed the design. There's only 4 screws in total. You have to pry off the entire black surround on the shifter. So that none of the black part is left behind Then take out 2 screws at the top of the shifter console. Then take out the two screws inside the center console storage. Then set the brake as high as you can and lift and slide the center back and then you can pull the shifter plastics off. Now don't make the mistake I did. I put the bushing on the pin before attaching the slider rod and it popped right off as soon as I shifted. Put the bushing on the slider rod first and then snap it on to the shifter pin. You might want to take this time like I did to take the center console and shifter console out and scrub and detail them. Then reassemble. (The reassembly takes all of 3 to 5 minutes). My dealer charged me $11 for the part. Another dealer I called quoted 15.
Great job and appreciate the info. Glad it went fast.....cheap....and that its back to working again. Make sure to subscribe and check out my other videos.
thanks for the video I fixed my Jeep compass
Your always welcome! Thanks for the cool feedback. Make sure to subscribe and check out my other videos as well.
Awesome video 👍🏻
Appreciate it Fernando! Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe.
I know I'm kinda late, and my gf has a Patriot, kinda the same. But, I'm replacing the cable itself. It comes with a bushing n stuff on it. Which, hers didn't come with a bushing on the cable. Which I'm confused about. And I'm having trouble trying to fix it by taking it apart. But I got it so far other than inside
The autostick is not working in my jeep compass 2008. P, R, N and D work perfectly, but the manual mode does not work. Could it be related to the same problem that you described?
Thanks bud! Same issue on my 2010 Jeep Patriot.
Appreciate you finding the video and for commenting. Check out my other videos and make sure to subscribe

Thanks. Subbed
Many thanks!
@Bostitch Rider. I have a 2010 Jeep Patriot and the ''Bushing'' isn't the problem.
@@montydaniels1054 Ya. problem came back. I ended up adjusting the cable on the transmission directly. It only needed adjusting by 1/8". I haven't had an issue shifting since over a year ago.
I have a 2013 compass with a manual transmission. It will not go into 4th gear. All other gears are fine. Does this transmission have a similar bushing?
@MotorCity Mechanic. Hi David, is there an adjustment on the ''Transmission Shift Cable End'' at the transmission end of the cable? No ne can give me an answer & the Jeep Dealer just says I have to bring it in & drop it off. The Bushing didn't solve the issue. I still have to, (Hold with some ''Pull Back Pressure on the Shifter''), Hold it with my hand in order to keep it in ''Forward Gear''....
Great help! Thank you

Boy I love you
Glad the video helped!
Is this the same instructions for going into park ?
Thank you for the advice I think my wife's Jeep is doing that I ordered the parts on Amazon and I will put it in and I will let you know if that was the case very helpful thank you
Your welcome and thanks for watching. Make sure to subscribe and have a great weekend
Thank you for the step by step & including the part # its an interchangeable bushing for shifter & gas pedal. This helped me nip some sexist rip off moves from the jump. I ended up knowing more about it than the guys who were trying to jip me. I fixed it & ordered the part all alone no help & it was exactly what was wrong..my 08 patriot has made me a RUclips mechanic & the men around me useless. Thanks again
You guys rock thank you!
Your welcome and thanks for watching. Make sure to subscribe.
Not sure if its the linkage or transmission is shot. The shifter goes into gear (drive) but only goes 30 mph tops. The autoshift feature does not go into any gear. I still can get reverse and neutral. Any thoughts???
Sounds like it’s possible in “limp mode”. Next step is having it checked for codes
My 2010 Jeep Compass 2.4L sport does the exact same thing. Do I have bushings on my model?
Does this work on a 2010 Jeep Compass because mine is doing this exact same thing I have to shimmy my gear stick in drive to get it to go and every other shift does just fine
Great video. Thanks!
Thanks for the comment. Its much appreciated. Make sure to subscribe and share the videos with others.
Greetings my problem is that on the dashboard indicates that it is in reverse and the gearshift is locked I can not put it instead of parking, This happened after an accident. Any solution? thanks subscribed. ( Jeep Patriot Sport 2x2 2008 )
I finally got around to replacing the bushing but it’s still doing the same thing. I thought it might because the bushing looked ok when i took the old one out. It there a place to adjust the cable?
Have you checked both ends of the shifter cable....not just at the shifter but at the transmission?
The cable on the shiftier side looks ok. It's secure in the bracket under the console. I followed the cable underneath and to the top of the transmission. It's pretty hard reach down through but I was able to grab the cable and all looks and feels secure. The cable is just slightly off because I when I shift down to Drive I can grab the cable underneath and a slight tug, 1/4", it goes into Drive.
The console is in perfect condition so it not that its out of place.
I got a patriot -08 with manual gearbox, when I go to 5th gear the gearstick "bottoms out" against the plastic cutout and is a bit hard to find 5th gear. Is it the same style of bushing on manuals that go bad? Cant check it right now. Thanks
Where did you get the bushing? I can't find them anywhere
Muy bueno saludos desde 🇨🇱👌
Gracias por ver. Mira mis otros videos y no olvides suscribirte
Thank you so very much,,,,,this method works on my Dodge Caliber. By the way,, do you know how many foot pounds I should torque my tie rod end to??? Please...dude your awesome 👏🏻
Sorry about the delay....the torque on the tie rod nuts at the spindle at 97 ft/lbs. Hope this helps and isnt too late
MotorCity Mechanic perfect thank you, by the way this video helped me replace my bushing on the caliber thanks 🙏🏻
MotorCity Mechanic oh yeah, I just subscribed
Joven Krotsmer Many thanks Joven! It's appreciated. Glad that the videos helped
Damn, that wasn't the problem. I still can't get an answer about the transmission cable from the ''Shifter assemble to the Trans.'' One more part replaced.
***Now I'm pretty much convinced that the problem is that the ''Nut on the end of the Steering Wheel'' is the Problem.***
Hi my 07 jeep compass is only going up to 50 and then sloei g down whats do you think the problem is
Hard to say just based on those symptoms. It something I would have to look at. First thing would be a good test drive to verify the issue and then checking for codes.
THANK YOU!!!!
Your welcome David. Subscribe and enjoy the weekend
My neighbors 07 compass wont release key and is hard to put into reverse car was a repo. Happen after it got repo any suggestions
You need to verify the right side console you gonna see a plastic plug and inside you gonna see a stick , you can release the shift manualy to free the key.
@@franketaswhat do you mean by verify? Do you have any pictures

@Doug Iamboy, what turned out to be the problem. Just wondering so I can make a note of how it was repaired. Thanks, MD...
Dude saved me from paying up to $200-$400 $tr8^
My 08 jeep patriot is stuck in park! but the dashboard says i have my jeep in neutral? i cant move my shifter at all. any idea of what it could be? thanks in advance!!
First thing I would do is check the shifter cable at the shifter inside to see if the bushing has failed. That's one of the most common issues.
Mine is doing the same thing but it will not stay in drive at all. As soon as I let go of the shifter it flies back to neutral. It started doing this immediately after replacing the throttle bottle which is weird.
On further inspection my shifter doesn't really have any play.
Alright. The bushing is still intact. The shifter assembly shifts into and stays in drive just fine when it's uninstalled.
I recommend rechecking what you did during the reinstall of the throttle body. Sounds like something us binding up and pushing on the shifter outside at the trans.
Funkofilms did you ever figure out the cause for this mine is doing the exact same thing
@@buckeyebass9599 Oh yeah it was my dumb ass mistake. The bolt that holds the battery down was either too rusted or cross threaded to use so we just strapped it in with a bungee cord. I guess on one side we strapped it to a bracket for the shifter cable and it was just pulling the cable a little.
if my shifter bushing is loose and I start the engine since I didn't realize it was loose until I tried to switch gear, is it normal that I hear sort of a Crack in the transmission when starting the car? thanks in advance
+Artie I haven't heard any abnormal noises when I found worn shifter bushings. Sounds odd. The sound could be just about anything. I have seen items like cracked flexplates that only made noise when cranking and no running. It just depends. Nothing really common that I can point you towards without hearing it myself.
+MotorCity Mechanic thanks very much
+Artie your welcome
@MotorCity Mechanic. 2010 patriots just have the shifter & then the cable to the trans...
how many miles?
It didn't show me what I really needed I need to change the whole cable out not just the bushing
