I think you are right about what to carve - plane carving on fancy wood, and fancy carving on plane wood.

Nicely done old man. My wife is tired of me making wood spirits but I am not, my son is the critic basically tell me yea or nea. But do have hard time creating something different or comfortable to carve? Ho well it is what it is. So I watch you, get some ideas and go from there thanks, carve deeper, don't shit your pants and take care!!
That turned out really good jordy it was a hard carve soft hard but what a great piece butiful wood and yea wood is the art and we give life back to it jordy you dont know what your going to get until you look in side cheers mate cant wait to see the rest mate

It looks a bit like a deep sea diver or the first diving helmets.
At the bottom, the black spots, could be the eyes on dice. I can see a 5, 3, 2, 1
Jordy, that’s a challenge with the pretty bark cleaned up and wear to carve you’ve got to ponder much more than with a ordinary chunk of wood
