@dobridjordje my grandfather wasn't a front line infantry. He was more responsible for "political propaganda" to ensure the troops morale were high at all times. He saod up to 95% of the PVA army (mostly countryside peasants) couldn't write their own name, so him being an educated person was useful in motivating troops as well as delivering key msgs between units. He did travel alongside his unit though. He says the Americans had complete control over the skies, so they did very little movement wise during the day, and mostly moved at night when it was completely dark.

The official Chinese title is "Volunteer Army", correct. However the (North) Korean translation is for "Support Army" instead.
