  • Vmax tested after total engine overhaul . it should make 145hp at the crank and 123hp at the wheel. It made 128,3hp so about 150hp at the crankshaft I am very pleased with the result. You clearly hear the Vboost kicking in. 114Nm 6300 rpm at the rearwheel.

Looks like an 88 vmax similar to my first bike. The bike overall is running good, but something is off on the top end. Starting at ~6.3k-7.5k RPM's you can see some issues in the graph at 3:02. Probably carb-specific, but overall the bike running well.

Great looking Vmax! I sure like to know where you can buy the rearward mounted foot pegs and controls! Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe sit on the bike properly with maximum weight on it to make sure the back wheel doesn't spin! Just saying. I've never seen a dyno operator sit side saddle! And take a bit longer showing the dyno graph.

James, I’ve read about every V-max article written in American bike magazines ever since the V-max hit the market. I have a 2005 with 23,000 miles . Years back I read of a Swiss company that bought batches of Max's, developed their own product line of modified/improved parts and obviously sold the bikes with said mods. The article stated that efforts to design a better exhaust system were attempted but in finality, the original system was hard to beat. I’ve drilled additional holes in the baffle plates, the air filters are individual low restriction types..K and N, the carb jetting is as-built and the growl is nice but I can’t say if performance was improved. It wasn’t harmed. It probably runs leaner than factory but the plugs read clean with no detonation scars so I’m good. An interesting aside.....My wife bought the bike for me as a Christmas gift 10 years ago. It was at a local dealer, perfect with low miles but over priced by about $2000 based on my market research of U.S. based bikes for sale. After multiple visits to get what I considered a fair price, I walked away. I’d come home and bitch about my failed bargaining attempts. When Christmas rolled around and the bike was gifted to me, my wife said she got tired of listening to my bitching so she bought it. She licensed and insured it too, the first year. I don’t know what she paid and I don’t care. We’ve been married 43 years. I got a good one. The wife, I mean. Dave Heitman in Omaha, Semper Fidelis

@@eileenheitman4351 You are correct and there is really no improvement with any slip-on except for less weight---I have heard Supertrapp slip-ons with 6-8 discs and 147.5 mains pick up a few hp.

@@eileenheitman4351 If you don't think a good 4 into 1 with the a stage 7 or similar jet kit doesn't improve HP. With a good exhaust an jet kit you can gain 20 horsepower. It's been proven for over 25yrs.

@@eileenheitman4351 There are Gen1's with down draft carbs an exhaust putting down 130whp. There's big bore shaft driven bikes putting down 200whp.
