A clear, clean interpretation of this eternal and perfectly-composed symphony, with silky tones from all the strings, mild tones from all the woodwinds, and brilliant tones from all the brass, as well as lordly voices from the four genial soloists and well-harmonized voices from the outstanding choir. The intelligent and equally genial conductor led the equally outstanding chamber orchestra in a relatively quick tempo and with perfectly-controlled dynamics. Simply wonderful!
While I agree with virtually all the sentiments here, I'm not sure I would call the timbre of the strings in this recording "silky"; however, this does not detract from their sound. Having grown up listening to Bernstein's no-less-immortal "Ode to Freedom" recording, this recording comes across as raw and impetuous. _And that fits this masterpiece perfectly:_ it reflects the nature and musical approach of its seasoned composer. The clarity of sound sets each instrumental line apart - the bombastic tympani, the chafing buzz of the natural horns, and the cutting arco and woody thick pizzicato timbres of gut strings - almost like a concerto for orchestra, adding an timbral immediacy quite unlike the well-honed refinedness of most modern symphony orchestra recordings.
Nice, but you missed the point. Basel Kammerorchester uses original time period instruments. Sure, nobody can beat Fischer-Dieskau but that is besides the point.
I also have a score-video of this symphony, autograph score - only reason is because the famous London Symphony performance with over (currently) 117mil views was the very first piece of classical music I ever heard from beginning to end, and was the day I began the journey to become a composer and humbly attempt to master counterpoint, so it has significant sentimental value to me, and was why I uploaded my video of the work.

Great, however I prefer Liszts transcription (Liszt transcribed this as with all the other Beethoven Symphonies as the folks of that time had little chance to attend concerts however all homes generally had a piano), so the idea of Liszt had merit - he tried his best but he admitted he had troubles with the 4th movement voices.
This is the symphony at the end of his life that opened up the world. Out of the ashes the phoenix is risen.
