      Because they make you dizzier,we tried lots of them. Every person has a different dizziness, the ones from inner ear and vestibular disorders are more difficult to diagnose and doctors don't want to get involved!

    After 4 months of suffering I finally scheduled an appointment with a PT. It’s been a miracle! These exercises really, really work! I was skeptical initially but now I feel I owe it to anyone suffering from dizziness to highly recommend this program. Resetting your vestibular system is not easy because the exercises may make you dizzy (and I thought sit ups were bad)! But this works! What really worked for me was standing, feet together with my eyes closed. My problem started when I had a bad head cold in February and apparently the virus attacked my vestibular nerve.

    Thanks a mill for this. Iv been feeling dizziness with the last year, I'm working on your treatment with the past 2 weeks. I'm starting to see results already. I'm doing the exercises 3 times per day. I was nauseous at the start, but that has passed. Dizziness now is not as severe, its diminishing by the day. Im at my worst when in walking but thankfully I'm seeing positive results.
    Thanks again.

      G R, that's fantastic to hear!! Thank you so much for sharing your experience and progress! It's great you're able to do them 3x/day! You'll find continued improvement in walking as you continue the exercises and when you're ready to progress to the advanced video, you'll find progressions of the walking exercises in that video. All the best!

This May I totally broke down because of it, which created also terrible anxiety and even panic attacks. I have not been able to work or live my life without fear. Finally I got this diagnosis and was plessed to find your wonderful exercises. I do them 2 x a day beginners and intermediate program. They help me to give me mental relief but in my case I think It will take time to really feel it everyday life. I have now medication for anxiety and fear so I just hope my hard work will bring results in coming weeks, months. I have trained now 3 weeks and will continue as long as it takes. I really want my life back. Thanks again❤❤❤

    Been so good for me, I have very mild dizzy spills it’s pretty much pull and push on/ off. Over a year now, Had my ears checked throughly no issues/ x rays of cervical is normal
    Now they had come to a conclusion stating its cervicogenic dizziness, along with headache… sometimes it concerns me is to how long is this little tilts gonna continue … I started doing some of our techniques since last 2 days.
    I sense may be this is what I need to strength my neck area. I’m also doing the 45degree sit gaze and lie down exercise 5 sets left and right side.

    • @MovementFunction
      @MovementFunction  3 года назад +1

      L Porter, thank you! Yes, it is normal to feel dizzy after completing the full exercise program as instructed in the video. The dizziness should subside within about 20 minutes. If it lasts longer than that, decrease the repetitions until the dizziness lasts less than 20 minutes.

    Your directions are so clear and your manner is so soothing that I'm really hoping these exercises help with lingering disequilibrium that my ENT diagnosed me with following a few very brief moments of vertigo due to eye strain. I do have one question though: I haven't yet gotten prescription glasses (I can't get in to an optometrist for another few weeks), and am just using readers, which I'm sure contributed to my eye strain. Would these exercises still be beneficial for me? Would it hurt or help to do the gaze stabilization exercises, etc, if I'm only looking through readers and I'm not seeing things through prescription lenses? Thanks so much for everything you do!

    • @MovementFunction
      @MovementFunction  Год назад +2

      Yes, these exercises may still be helpful for you but I suggest doing the exercises without glasses. Since readers are meant to be used for close vision, they might make things more blurry or make you feel more dizzy trying to focus on your outstretched finger. Thank you for your comment!

      @@MovementFunction First I would like to thank you for these fabulous videos. I am at the beginning of my vestibular rehab journey and like most people, would like to see quick results. Thank you for teaching me to be patient and diligent. I had one vestibular rehab session and was taught a few basics but the therapist has been away for two weeks (I resume next week) so your videos have been a huge help in learning and making me feel like I am progressing and not repeating the same basics and not feeling any different. My question also relates to eye glasses/contact lenses like the person above and wondering if you can shed some light. I have progressive lens eyeglasses but was told not to wear them for the exercises because of the different fields of vision. I wear contact lenses normally but since they are mono vision (one lens for distance and one for reading.. have done this for 10+ years and my brain obviously adapted), I thought it prudent to stay away from that while trying to heal. So, what I have done is wear distance vision contact lenses and wear readers for anything I need to do up close. Do you think, for purposes of the rehab exercises, that wearing distance contact lenses is the right thing? My distance vision is good with them, just the arms length letter on wall or finger in front is a bit blurry. My second question is what is your opinion on mono vision contact lenses? Do you think perhaps it may have caused my vestibular problem to begin with with the brain having to work too hard or somehow is now unadapted? FYI, I had a brain MRI and thank the good Lord all is normal. I would appreciate your opinion so I can move forward. Thank you again for your amazing work and for bringing hope and help to so many people. It is a problem that is so not addressed in the mainstream. God Bless you for shedding light and hope.

    Happy Sunday! I have officially been doing the beginner and intermediate videos for three weeks. I definitely feel like I'm progressing and seeing benefit. When should I move onto the Advance Video?
    I have the number of reps under control with about 20 reps per exercise. The biggest challenge remains doing the one leg stands with my eyes closed. I can only do those about 7 seconds max. I'm pushing myself though. I was diagnosed with Vestibular Neuritis in early May. So I'm about 3 months in now and thank goodness the symptoms are far better than the were in the beginning. My vision still blurs later in the day.. I'll be so thankful when I can fully read computer screens and cellphone all day long as I did before. Thank you again for the motivating videos. I'm in Vestibular Rehab meeting with a coach as well. Many of those exercises are exactly the same as these! It gives me confidence I'm doing the right things to get myself back to 100%

    • @MovementFunction

    Thank you so much for these videos! My question is, I feel my best in the morning through the afternoon. In the evenings I feel the most unbalanced, especially after laying on the couch watching TV. Would it be more beneficial to do these exercises when you feel the most unbalanced? Thanks again, God bless you for helping others!

    • @MovementFunction
      @MovementFunction  2 года назад +3

      Dorothy, you're welcome and thank you for your comment and question. It's most beneficial to do the exercises when you're able to complete them with tolerable discomfort and when you're able to rest afterward. If you do them when you're most unbalanced, you might not be able to do much, whether because you're off balance, can't focus well or they make you feel too miserable. So a good time for you to do them might be in the late afternoon/early evening. In addition, you might try adjusting your position while watching TV (sit up instead of lie down?) and consider things like your distance to the TV (too close?), vision correction, brightness of the screen and total screen time... That was more than you asked about but it might all contribute. :)

    Thank you so much for these videos, I did the beginner for 2 weeks, moved on to intermediate here and I’m now 4.5 weeks into VRT, I’m seeing improvements.
    How long roughly between levels do you recommend, I know your guidelines and I feel im achieving them so all good for advanced?
    My other question is as you advance levels are we supposed to do the previous level on top? Beginner and intermediate together or just the sole video?
    Thanks again you are changing many lives that have been through so much!
    Steve 👍🏻

    • @MovementFunction
      @MovementFunction  2 года назад +1

      Hi Steve. So glad the exercises are helping you and I thank you for your kind comment! To answer your questions, yes, it sounds like you are good to go for the advanced. Just focus on the exercises in the sole video. Most of them are progressions of earlier exercises so there's no need to do the easier version once you've progressed. If, by chance, there is an exercise in the beginning or intermediate video that you found helpful and want to continue, go for it. Won't hurt. All the best!

    So vestibular migraines just cost me a safety sensitive job. I e been suffering from light and motoon sensitivity, anxiety, dizzyness, and other issues. I'm bound and determined to get passed this. I appreciate the home exercises. My question is how many times a day should I do these and how long before I see any benefits from daily repetition?

    • @MovementFunction
      @MovementFunction  2 года назад +2

      Big Pun, the gaze stabilization exercises specifically can be done 4-5 times/day or 20 minutes total. The others can be done 1-2 times/day. Any increased dizziness you feel during the exercises should dissipate within 20 minutes of completing the exercises. If it lasts longer than that, you're pushing too hard and it's not helpful in the long run. More is not better after that point. Some people start to notice benefits within one week, while on average it takes about six weeks. Did you see the video I posted specifically for vestibular migraine? Check out the vestibular playlist for that video and others. You might try doing this intermediate video 1x/day and the vestibular migraine 1x/day and the gaze stabilization exercises 4x/day for maximum recovery. All the best!

    • @MovementFunction
      @MovementFunction  2 года назад +1

      Hi Anna. You're very welcome. VOR cancellation is a normal process that occurs when the body cancels out the VOR response in order to keep the eyes and head in line with a moving target. It is traditionally used as a neurological test following concussion but it's also used in vestibular rehab to decrease motion sensitivity. For some people, it feels easy and doesn't feel like much is happening; for others, it's challenging and is a useful tool for improving motion tolerance and balance.

      @@annasohn7725 These exercises are helpful for MdDS as they help to change the sensitivity to motion. Continue working your way through the intermediate, then advanced levels. When you get to exercises that feel provocative, start with just a few reps and do them a few times per day, building up gradually. The standing and walking exercises with movement will be the most helpful. Hello Beth, I’ve just found your beginner and intermediate videos after desperation to fix my dizziness. I had a near fainting dizzy spell 4 weeks ago in a brightly lit town hall, and since then, if I go into a supermarket (with ‘those lights’), I get so dizzy and feel like I’m going to faint. And now I’ve got dizziness at home too. Not sure if this is ear or a migraine issue but I’ve suffered with ear dizziness and hormonal migraines so could be either! Either way, I’m confident your exercises will very much help me.
    Just a quick question…how often should I be practicing these in a day? The first day I tried the beginners ones I felt tired and had a mild headache so I guess my brain had definitely done some work!
    Thanks so much for such helpful videos.

      Lillian, you're welcome and thank you for the nice comment. You raise a great question. The purpose of the lunge as a vestibular exercise is to move your head forward/backward and turn side to side. It's also a dynamic balance exercise that involves other systems that work with the vestibular system for overall equilibrium and balance. You could try modifying it to just take a small step without lunging or you can just skip it. Other exercises involve head movement and dynamic balance, so you're getting the work in other ways/other exercises in the program.

Sounds like you're doing well with them and if you feel comfortable making yourself more dizzy, then yes, increase the challenge by increasing speed of movement, increasing how far you've moving (i.e., adding trunk rotation to the head rotation to gain range of motion, taking a bigger step in the lunge, etc.) and increasing reps. You could also add a second set at another time of day.

    I suffer 24/7 because of it, last year i tried PT for it, the results only helped temporarily.
    Im back to having more bad days than good, but i will give these exercises a shot, so far this is day 4 of doing both the beginner and intermediate exercises. Im hopeful that i will see results after a few weeks since these are more motions than what i did during PT.
    Should i be doing these exercises several times a day or just once a day? Also, is it true that those who suffer from vestibular issues should embrace what makes them uncomfortable in order to exercise the brain to help in the rewiring and learning to subconsciously tolerate certain triggers. I.e. should i be going to the grocery store and walking up and down the aisles as part of a daily or weekly exercise along with these PT exercises?
    Thank you so much for posting this! After 5 years i have become extremely depressed and have lost hope. @Natasha. I'm glad you're feeling ready to progress to the intermediate video. Start the once/day. Add a second time if you feel like you can handle it. Any symptoms brought on during the exercises should resolve within about five minutes of stopping the exercise. If dizziness lasts longer or prevents you from doing your regular activities, then it's too much. If dizziness is brief and you can handle more, go for it! Another way to add more when you're ready is to perform just the exercises that make you feel dizzy (because those are the ones that will likely be most helpful) a second, third or even fourth time a day. The real answer is to do them as much as you can without making yourself miserable and while continuing to live your life fully. Good luck and I'll be interested to hear how you do with the intermediate video.

    What does the VOR cancelation for? How does it improve the vestibular system after a hypofunction

    • @MovementFunction
      @MovementFunction  2 года назад

      The VOR cancellation exercise works on the visually-mediated override of the VOR, which is a normal function of vestibulocerebellar communication. It helps to stabilize gaze during combined eye-head tracking or in other words, it decreases sensitivity to motion. This is one of many components of a healthy vestibular system that improves with rehab exercises to restore normal communication with other systems.

The most important thing is to challenge yourself a little every day, go for a walk, go to the store and go to places where there are a lot of people. This will challenge your brain and over time your brain will get used to it.
      What I have learned during this difficult time is that 50% of this is something in the brain that does not work completely that must be worked on (vestibular therapy) and 50% is mental. Feeling a brief, woozy feeling with head (neck) movement could have several origins, including the vestibular system and the cervical spine (I couldn't say which without doing my own evaluation). Also, be aware of your posture and habitual movements - do you sleep with your head turned to one side or turn your head to one side when looking at your computer, phone, etc.? If so, try changing those positions and see if your symptoms change... Good luck and I'd be interested to know how it all goes!

      It is normal to feel like you're going backward if the exercises are too much or if you are pushing too hard. I suggest doing the intermediate exercises but only do about half of the repetitions. If that still feels like too much, try doing fewer of the exercises until you are able to do the exercises without feeling the back slide. Also, it is okay to take a break from the exercises all together 1-2 days/week. Also consider your overall activity level. There is a tendency to start doing more as one feels better and it is easy to overdo it. Keep up the good work and be gentle and kind to yourself :).

These are just approximate and subjective (i.e. 'good' balance). The idea is to be able to tolerate all the exercises well so your body can handle the next progression without you feeling miserably dizzy.

    Hello Dr, I am diagnosed with BPPV and after successful Epley's manoeuvre I do not feel dizzy, but still, I am facing issues in my daily activities after successful treatment, wanted to know by performing these exercises will I be move to my normal life, as when I sleep as well in the night, I feel Dizzy sometimes.

    • @MovementFunction
      @MovementFunction  Год назад

      Yes, these exercises help to recover full function in daily life and comfortable sleeping. BPPV can return, as well, so if you are feeling room spinning at night, you might need to do the Epley maneuver again to resolve recurrent BPPV. All the best!

    Hi Beth, thank you so much for your video and the soothing instruction. It’s making me feel calm. I had vertigo since 5 years ago, 2/3x a year, but this month I had 4x in a month, then I’ve continues dizziness for whole 9 days, I admitted 3 days in hospital. I went to a Physiotherapist did an epley manouver, it worked. My dizziness better. But the day after it, I went to the crowd & I feel dizzy again. I feel dizzy when I do the gaze exercise too.
    My question is, I usually work 8 hours/day & travels 5 - 8 days overseas for business trip.
    Can I manage to go back to work?
    I’m so worried about my work.
    I can walk normal at home. But watching TV too long/ look at phone too long, making me feel a bit dizzy.
    Please help me.
    You said 4-6 weeks We can feel different after the beginner exercise? Then can I go to work in front of the computer?

      @MovementFunction  8 месяцев назад +1

      Everyone is different and the exact amount of time you will need to recover before going back to work is unique to you. I recommend seeing a ENT (ear, nose and throat) doctor or a neurologist for further testing and an updated diagnosis and treatment plan. Also I recommend continuing to see a physio for ongoing therapy and help you determine when it is best for you to return to work.

    Hi I've been doing these exercises for 2-3 months now and progressed from beginner to immediate. I'm ready to move on to advance but I'm still struggling with standing on one leg with your eyes closed exercise. The longest I've been able to do it is 3 seconds. Is it possible to just do that specific exercise instead of all the other exercises in the intermediate video?
    Also my balance has improved but when I walk I tend to keep moving and leaning towards my right side, any video recommendations to help with that?

    • @MovementFunction
      @MovementFunction  2 года назад +1

      came nandh, yes, move on to the advanced video and just continue practicing the one leg balance with eyes closed. The walking exercises in the advanced video will likely help you walk straighter and feel more control over your body position and movement. Keep up the great work! Good job doing these exercises consistently and progressing through the series!

    Hello and thank you for the video. I had severe vertigo over 2 years ago where i had mri scans on my brain and spine with no issues. The vertigo is no longer there but i have neck pain, tinnitus and i find i am often very off balance especially after exercise or straining. Do you feel vestibular rehabilitation would be a good fit for this situation. Iv been doing this routine for 3 days now and im finding my tinnitus is increasing during and after completing, i am feeling a tad nauseous also. Is this normal. Thank you

    • @MovementFunction
      @MovementFunction  3 года назад

      Joe, any increase in symptoms associated with doing the exercises should decrease back to baseline within 20 minutes of completing the exercises. If the increased tinnitus and nausea last longer, then definitely stop the exercises. It sounds like a combination of issues could be contributing to your symptoms and I recommend pursuing further medical evaluation to be sure that all areas are adequately addressed. Good luck and all the best to you!

    Hi Beth thanks so much for this video ! I am ok doing the repetitions however after I feel quite lightheaded and nauseous! This eases as day goes on do you think I am doing too much and maybe reduce ? your advice greatly appreciated 🙏

    • @MovementFunction
      @MovementFunction  3 года назад

      You're welcome, Karen! Great question. The lightheadedness and nausea from the exercises should dissipate within about 20 minutes of completing the exercises, so yes, it sounds like you're doing too much and would benefit from reducing reps and/or speed of movement. You might also try breaking up the program doing 1/2 in the morning and the other half in the evening. Keep in mind that it's fine to take a day off here and there to let your body rest. All the best to you!

    Should we build on the exercises adding the intermediate on top of the beginner or do I not need to do the beginner exercises anymore? Thank you for these videos

    • @MovementFunction

      Lisa, the intermediate exercises are progressions of the beginner and are meant to replace them, so you don't need to continue doing the beginner exercises anymore. All the best!

    Hi Beth I struggle walking downhill particularly if the pavement is uneven ! Can you recommend an exercise to help with this ? I tend to walk in places I feel safe and wonder if the only way is to push myself to walk different routes ?

    • @MovementFunction
      @MovementFunction  3 года назад

      Karen, you're right that the best way to improve is to walk different routes while still maintaining safety. One idea is to use a walking stick for added safety and a sense of security when walking routes that are more challenging. That way you'll benefit from gaining strength, balance and confidence on more challenging terrain while staying safe. When you're ready, ditch the walking stick. You might also check out my balance video series, especially the video using a foam pad: ruclips.net/video/EiuYyJOikPE/видео.html. Balancing on the foam pad is not the same as walking downhill but the exercises will improve your dynamic balance.

      If you can tolerate doing the exercises 2-3x/day, that is fine. Specifically, doing the gaze stabilization exercises up to 4x/day is best for optimal results.

    Hi, thanks for your great video, my issue is when i lay down and close my eyes i feel like i’m in a boat, and some times i feel it when i’m setting with my eyes open, i have brain fog sometimes when there is a motion in my area, i feel the stability problem when i’m in a big hall or a mall it usually comes with brain fog.
    Which exercise should i do?

      Ali, try the exercises in this video and the advanced videos that include motion surrounding you, such as walking with finger movements. Also, I suggest my video for visually-induced motion sensitivity: ruclips.net/video/A_7I7zQ8T5c/видео.html. It focuses specifically on dizziness associated with a busy, moving background.
