To clarify for anyone wondering about clinging to a surface, you need to both air break so you are not flying "too fast" + hold your secondary attack button so: Hold your air break button to slow down and hold your secondary attack button, if done right you will stick to the surface(You NEED to hold BOTH of these buttons when you touch the surface or you will crash into it instead). This works on "anything" be it trees, rocks or buildings. The reason you want to do it is because taking off flying from the ground uses a lot of stamina and if you land and eat every fish you catch that will quickly drain a big chunk of your stamina but if you cling to a surface you can also eat what you have caught then press your jump button to let go from the surface, this puts you into flight mode again and costs ZERO 0! stamina allowing you to catch more fish and eat them at a very low cost of stamina. One minor detail to keep in mind is that after you let go from a surface like this you are in a special flight mode, you are flying slower than usual and drop faster to the ground so unless you want to go down to the water or something again you should immediately tap your jump button again when in the air so you gain a little altitude, that also puts you into normal flight(you start to gain a little speed and stop losing as much altitude).

@@TheHuffur Good call :) They did do this in someway when they first introduced skimming etc, but the meta mechanics had kind of shifted in some way. I think i was lucky to start when they first released Spiro, as I had a clean slate away from legacy while growing with the game, rather coming into it watching other people play and expecting to be as good as those you see kinda thing. Like if I had played Rust i would get eatin alive, as I have no experience and the mechanics in that aren't really explained either, like is there bullet fall?, what heals and how much it heals? etc etc. I think some internal mechanics should be hidden so skill and learning curve is achieved and you not just playing solely on meta mechanics. I think the discovery of things is what makes it good.

@@oddsprout hey mate, Keep tapping space bar (or what ever your fly button is) when you are close to the water, With some practice you will be able to skim quite easily. I think it's good practice to fly as low to the ground when possible. Will get you use to your air awareness :)
Sorry about the late reply, But it could be your not low enough, Being a fresh spawn can be difficult fishing. The bigger the fish the easier to catch too, and you kinda want to aim at an actual fish. I hope that helps
Great video, i too play with controller but found it very hard to fish with ptera, if i look down while flying the ptera descends. How did you fly straight and maintain your height while looking down while fishing?
Thanks for watching :). And you should be able to look around with your right joy stick. That should always be free motion and left one is to control movement. Of you are always pointing with the left stick that's where your going wrong. :). So when ever your aiming for anything you use your right joy stick. Have you set up your own controls? How does it work for other dinos?

My left joystick acts as wasd, while the right stick acts as the mouse. other playables work good for me, even ptera works quite well for me, when it came to skimming however, that is where i had big trouble. @@mrfischkopf4946 ohhh I understand what's going on. You drop your beak in the water by holding either one of your triggers when you are close enough to the water. For me it's my left trigger. But try either one, you need to be close enough for your beak to dip into the water. :)
How do you start skimming? Also I've completely ignored frogs because I'm only used to frogs as deino and they suck for them. Def gonna keep an eye/ear out from now on.
It should be holding either your left or right click on your mouse. I use a controller, and set it up so it's my left trigger. It may be your right click. But you need to hold it. I'm going to do a more detailed approach and tutorial with frogs. So I'll show all spawn locations and where I fly by to check if I hear them. Once you get your pecks and swoops down frogs is really easy. :).
Also, make sure you are low enough to the water. When you are a fresh spawn it is a little tricky. But if you tap your fly button to raise you above the water as you are skimming. :) GL have fun and please let me know how you go:)

How do you keep from hitting the water when skimming? Just skill?

How do you fly parallel to the water surface? I either fall into it or spend stamina to fly up from it
I just tap the fly button whenever I start to get too close to the water and that lifts you. :)
