Hood morning! I have seen many of your works and I like all of your techniques represented here. I also started by making some simple prints and I'm quite satisfied with the result. I learned from. Thank you very much for your willingness to share and bring joy to the world.
Sounds great! Thanks for watching
Absolutely mindblowing from beginning to end.
Thanks very much
I love your work and thank you for taking the time to share it, teach us, and inspire us around the world.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching, hope you enjoy exploring the techniques.
You’re a master at pulling reason out of the chaos!
Thank you, glad you think so.
This touched me deeply. Thank you.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Love this so many possibilities ,thanks Dan .
You are so welcome!
I absolutely love this. I always sit through all of your videos, just goes to show a video doenst have to be short to keep ones interest. I've been looking forward to this. Thanks for showing the process. :)
Wow, thank you! It always means a lot when I receive such positive feedback and to know that viewers enjoy following the techniques. I do enjoy making these longer videos because I feel that they are most helpful.
I like the effect when the stencil is pulled away, and then I enjoy seeing you take that bare bones image and bring mystery to it.
p.s. please leave the captions up about twice as long as you are now. They are interesting, and I don't want to miss anything.
Thank you, Glad you like this.
Sorry about that, I will edit those so that they remain on screen longer.
Enjoy learning new technique.. very interesting process...inspring to attempt something like this but on a smaller scale like maybe two or four....thank you fir inspiring me and teaching me your techniques...mikelle art mom 🎨✍👩🎨
Glad you enjoyed this demo. Hope you give this a try.
I was sick with COVID a little down. This morning I saw this video and my creative mojo came back. I hope to try this technique once I'm better. This is very relaxing. Thanks for sharing, Dan. From Deneen-Cleveland, Ohio, United States.
Thank you so much, I really hope you soon feel well again. I always feel very positive when I receive comments such as this and I do hope that once you better you are able to explore this technique for yourself. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
@@DanTirels thank you ever so much. I'm great but slowly trying to get back to normal. Thank you.
Good morning Dan. Hope you're doing well. I've been looking forward to another creation of art. Thanks again. Great work Dan. Enjoyed the outcome.
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it.
I just discover your channel and talent. Looove it
Thank you so much!
I would never have thought of this myself, what a creative idea. I will keep this in mind for when inspiration hits. Fruit might be an easy concept.
What a fantastic result. I kept thinking about Frankenstein as I watched progress. Really awesome!!
Thank you very much!
This is amazing---thank you for sharing!!!
Thanks for watching.
I enjoyed every minute of this video and plan to share them with my students. Thank you for being so generous with your process. I look forward to your videos as they are posted!
You are so welcome!
Love this technique! Thanks!
You are so welcome!
I am loving this process today, very inspirational. TY.
You are so welcome!
Hi Dan, I really like this. The final piece is wonderful but I also really like the effect at around 13.30, with all the stencils inserted in the 12 squares before you start applying the oil paint. Like someone else has already said, I think the images reflect my mood today. Thanks a million for posting this. Hugs for the 'Driftwood Dog!'
Thanks Martin, I wasn't sure how this one would turn out but it is a composition that I had planned to work on for a while, kind of reflects the current mood in the UK as we are now under lockdown once again (England is anyway) It is a technique that is great to experiment with because once you have cut the stencils you can explore other colours. Maybe as the mood is lifted I will reflect that in another work. Buzz is thriving in his new home, he's turned into a happy fun character just like his much missed big bro Ben.
I watch your videos religiously, thank you for posting such wonderful work. Learning a lot from all your videos.🙏
It's my pleasure, I'm glad that you find them helpful.
Ok, then. Looks like I’m gonna have to forget about everything I need to get done today to try this RIGHT! NOW!
good luck !
This demo is so informative and creative inspiration abounds. I love the feelings exuding from your figures....everyone is weary and sad by what Covid has inflicted upon the world. Thank you for your calming and feeling infused art. I look forward to trying this stencil project. I also appreciate the simple supplies and tools you share which allows many more struggling artists and newbie artist able to try this art style out.
Thank you so much! I hope you get some good results with this technique. Glad to have provided some inspiration.
Wow. our work always inspires. Thank you for sharing your techniques and your incredible work.
You are so welcome!
I LOVE this!!! Thank you for sharing!!
You are so welcome!
This video is just amazing. They do look like tortured souls but I feel very inspired by your art. So expressive. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the demo.
Always a revelation to watch you work!
Hi Dan. Thank you so much for another great video which is truly appreciated.
Glad you enjoyed it
This is sooo cool!! I just keep watching, I love coming back to it. 🙏
At the 10:26 mark, does anyone else see a demented older "Bart Simpson"?! LOL. If his "hair" was spikey, I would swear that's him. 🤣
I had not noticed that.
excellent !!!
Many thanks!!
Thank you Dan. Very informative and inspiring. You are really generous to share this with us. Deeply appreciated. Thank you again.
Thanks. You are very welcome.
All the best to you and dawg
Thanks, Buzz is doing well in his new home.
you have amazing ideas!

So satisfying!
Glad you think so!
Your work is so seductive and beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much!
Maybe I'm just feeling a bit down today , but they look like tortured souls . Your work just keeps amazing me.
I resemble your remark Linda! Take care of yourself.
Maybe you have have hope because these tortured souls are worse off than you? I strive to bring joy in my work ... it’s not easy.
I think that is exactly how this work should be viewed, the COVID-19 virus has had an effect on a lot of creatives and as the UK is now in the 2nd wave of this terrible pandemic, it is a subject that cannot be ignored. Thanks for watching and stay safe.
It looks like coming all together from far-away

Super!!!
Great process... great result... thanks for sharing... and that noise when you pulled the first length of tape... 😏 Subbed 👍🏼
Thanks so much! 😊
So inspiring. Thank you!
I wanted to add: instead of the plastic "paint transfer sheets" i think a small gel plate would work beautifully for slightly more flat and less expressive color. Thats probably what I will try.
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING :)
I love this one!
Fantastique j aime beaucoup. 🤩
Amazing! This made my day.
Thanks
Dan, you might want to check your Xacto knife blade. You're exerting way too much pressure on those cardboard cutouts. I mean, yes, they are covered with packing tape, but still, a new sharp blade would cut through the tape and cardboard more easily I should think.
I did mean to change the blade before I filmed this but I couldn't find the spare blade anywhere, I really need to get organised better.
The process is very cool and I like the end result, although it does look like artwork that would be plastered on the walls of a serial killer's lair in the movies. That's not an insult, just an observation.
Merci ! 😍
I’m mesmerized by your process. Haunting and powerful!
What would have been even cooler is if you had done a crayon/acrylic resist instead of just your usual oil paint application. Which gives me some ideas... 😀❤❤
Great suggestion! There are lots of possibilities with this technique, I used oil for this one because it gives me more time to work with the paint.
These are making me so excited and inspired i'm barely coping is that normal?
J'adore ❣️
Excellent!
Deep.. emotionally...raw..
hermoso 👏
Hello, What do you dip the cotton bud in to make the oil paint more liquid?
Nothing NEVER use any medium, just dry rag or sponge. The cotton buds are great for finer detail.
This is bitchen! I love the “simplicity” and complexity!
❤️
Once again excellent videos! I am totally new to monoprinting so I am really appreciating your channel.. Can you tell me approximately how long did it take you to complete this work of art? Sometimes we as viewers watch a video and results seem to become instantaneous. I know the is not the case with this one. Each square is an artwork in and of itself. Excellent way to tell a story.
There is a lot of editing involved in some of the videos, sometimes I complete them over a couple of days. I try not to film time lapse sequences as I think it is best to show the whole process in detail. I would estimate that the total production for this demo would be 7 hours. This would include sketching the idea and cutting the stencils, making the frame would be another hour. Editing the finished film can take over 2 hours.
Wish there was a verbal description of materials and what the artist doing.
Genial
Thanks
I am just going to try this, stencilling for the first time, so………maybe a dumb question but why use the tape, rather than just the card ?
How did you stick the acetate on the brown card plz - what is that brown card?
The frame is made from card covered with brown parcel tape.
Mr Tirels could you tell me the type of plastic? is it from shopping bags? I know it must be recycled. I like these faces, bodies very much, Is this with oils?
So exciting and inspirational. A very basic question , how did you make the board from which the stencils are cut. I see from the comments that it is cardboard and packing tape. I am just not sure. Thank you in advance.
I always like to make use of scrap materials or use anything that I have around. The stencils are cut from card that has parcel tape on both sides, they can be used many times, just wipe clean and use again. One of my demos shows how to do this.
@@DanTirels thank you so much for such a quick response. I am heading out for a week of monoprinting. I have not done it before. I have been watching your videos. So thank you.
Can you translate to spanish the materiales use? Thank you
Materiales pintura al óleo: azul de Prusia/marrón Vandyke Plantilla (ver el video anterior) Cuchillo artesanal afilado plástico (para hojas de transferencia de pintura
Hi Dan, what kind of paper is this?
I use a heavyweight cartridge paper 250gsm or smooth card 300gsm. This technique works best on a smooth surface. You can prime the surface with a spray of white acrylic paint.
What paint do you use? Is it oil?
This demo uses oil paint.
This would have been great if I can hear something.!!
I try to avoid speaking as many people have found it distracting and as I only speak in English it would not work for those many viewers for whom this is not their first language. I am always happy to answer any questions but hope the demo videos are instructive and easy to follow.
really not so “abstract”. You have captured something essential in each one. I have now watched about four of your videos, all tonight, or, that is, well into the early morning. Inspiring and sensitive work. Take good care of yourself.
PS. what were your colours? It’s beautiful, deep work. 2023 edit: found the colours in the show notes.
