You two are easily some of the most grounded musicians I've heard! I love the emphasis on TONALITY. Its such an important factor, and its taken for granted but I'm glad it was given so much importance in this video!
You were so right about his amazing work on Vital Signs’ album. The guitar riff of Namumkin sounds so futuristic even today . Gumby bhai if you have any candid/archival footage of Amir Zaki playing .. pls do share. I’m his great fan and there’s very few videos I find of him.
Gumby says it best at the end: Bands have come and gone yet both Gumby and Asad Ahmed are still putting out great music. Btw the latter has an awesome collection of guitars 6:40 😲
I would love to see Mr Mannu, Omran Shafique, Asad, Jaffer and you in one podcast together. Learning from your experiences will be an honour. The good old days of Coke studio journey and reliving it again would be magical 😍
Thankyou Gumby for the great video and also including a portion on Asad's gear. I'm sure a lot of work goes into the videos and also happy to see your discipline that even the video quality and editing is great. God bless !
Thanks Baber, Asad has a lot to share, be it his experience or his gear... It was only fair to make the effort and showcase everthing. Thank you once again for the encouraging comments bro ❤️
The amount of knowledge and wisdom you guys have is simply amazing.. I've a really stupid question which you can totally ignore if you want... If you're going to buy an aquistic guitar and you're absolutely tight on budget but you still want to play something which worth your money and also sounds most people would suggest a fender cd 60 or yamaha F310. What would you suggest I should buy in electric which is budget friendly and also sounds good.
I really want you to share your own experiences with different bands in entirety. Like your own situation when you joined Vital Signs, I believe that was for live gigs and not the studio stuff. Also Vita Signs have a very set drum pattern how do you feel playing all the music with more or less similar samples. Then came Junoon, I am sure that must’ve been a different experience from studio to live outfit. And then ironically Ali Azmat, how was that experience. So something on a similar level sharing us the technical insights and the inspirations. It’s ok, don’t share the the inner band bantings ( of almost human nature 😛). Anyways great stuff. Masha’Allah, God bless you.
I'm working on something you've mentioned. The idea is to share my experiences... especially my mistakes and how kind and cruel the industry can be. To date I know bands in Pakistan still use sequenced drums just to save a bit of money or then shy away from live instrumentation. It's sad and doesn't help the music nor the betterment of the music industry.
Loved both episodes with Asad. While I pretty much take what Gumby says to be gospel, I have a slight disagreement on the idea that developing your guitar sound in post or using plug-ins is somehow the wrong approach. While I agree that it's not ideal but for amateur guitar players and producers, it allows us to get the tone we want without spending a crazy amount of money on pedals and amps. I don't think there is anything wrong with developing your tone using plug-ins. Again, that is my personal opinion but Gumby knows best 😀
Whether you can afford an amp/effects or not it doesn't take away the fact that some guitar players don't focus on their tone. If you're a musician and play live, how do you make your tone then? It's the norm for most productions to "fix" things in post. Thus I see lesser and lesser musicians not being able to cope live with their sound. Your tone is your strongest asset and definitely your identity.
Really loved this conversion, asad and gumby are the living legends,
Thanks bro
This rocked, big salute from Canada!🤘💯😤
So valuable. Thanks.
My pleasure!

I hope these discussions help new musicians understand music better

Such an interesting conversation.. !
Thank you
Thanks Gumby. That was by far the best conversation about music between two top musicians of Pakistan. Very insightful and too much to learn from.
Thanks bro

That would be a good idea :)
And also hope to see more drummers as well in the upcoming podcasts ♥️

You've also been on tours with Junaid Jamshed. I request that you make a video based on your memories with him. That'll be great.

Not sure why Asad missed out WEM. Great stuff Gumby bhai.

Invest in your gear mate! That's exactly what Asad said. There is no simple solution if you are tone chaser.
