1st gen are idols such as H.O.T, Shinhwa, s.e.s, sech kies... etc
when TVXQ debuted at that time the idol industry itself was dying cause the 1st gen idols were declining and solo acts were dominating hence the word “REVIVE” as they started the 2nd gen of idols and ofc their role in spreading kpop all over asia and paving the way to the japanese market with BoA.
this just means that second generation idols paved the way for the idols that we know now
