One of the best songs in the Entire Universe!! You just cant get any cooler than this. Only song I can listen to over and over. Such a legend. Loved James Gang also. ❤❤❤
Dobie Gray- Drift Away....Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon....Paul McCartney & Wings- Band On The Run....Lynyrd Skynyrd- Pronounced 'léh-'nerd 'skin-'nerd...Elton John- Goodbye Yellow Brick Road...just to name a few
Huge thumbs up for this recording. Thanks Jim. Can't believe how much Joe experimented with this song in live performances. Wish he had done the same with County Fair
I think this is from the King Biscuit series, University Of Texas (Arlington, TX) Sep 24, 1973 Joe Walsh - vocals, guitars; Kenny Passerelli - bass, vocals; Joe Vitale - drums, vocals; Rocke Grace - keyboards "Joe Walsh had been out of The James Gang less than two years when this show was recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour radio concert series (which was in its debut year of broadcasting). Walsh still relied on much of the material he had written for The James Gang that had established him on FM radio. He does, however, offer a good dose of material from his first solo album, Barnstorm, and The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get, which had just been released. Opening with "Meadows" from his new album, the group smokes from the beginning. Highlights include an extended jam at the end of "Turn To Stone," followed by a nearly nine-minute version of "Rocky Mountain Way," which was new at the time, but still worked as a showstopper."
Seems like the origin of the version he did later on with Don Felder, both before AND after he joined the Eagles. Much more laid back - but I prefer the raw energy of higher tempo "harder" live version.
During his solo…..at the 9:30 mark…….a hint of the intro to an Eagles tune that wouldn’t be written and recorded until 1976, almost 3 years after this live version of Turn to Stone…..

a little Stairway to Heaven theme in front of the favourite Joe Walsh tune of mine - Gorgeous!!!

@doubleheadergr Very good response, buddy
Now, more than ever, I miss 1973... :-)
Me too.. I was -1 years old!
@@Mannard74 you miss shitting diapers?
I was 18 and I saw all of his Chicago shows and some Wisconsin and Indiana shows. If we knew he was coming, we baked a cake...and went.
I'm playing this on my Strat as I listen. Not many Joe songs that I don't know.
@@mcanderson3511 I’m guessing “baked” was the operative word there...🤣
