Jean Luc Ponty - Live in Concert - São Paulo 1980

  • Jean Luc Ponty recorded home from TV broadcast during live transmission of the concert.
    This is the very first Jean Luc Ponty tour in Brazil, specifically the first time ever to play live in São Paulo in the classic Quintet formation.
    I was lucky to watch him with different versions of the Quintet every time they played in São Paulo (missed only one or 2 tours in different formations).
    This was a "life changing event" of my early teen years. I dare to say this is the prime of all Quintet formations, with a very young Rayford Griffin bringing down the house. I saw this genius live a couple of times with Ponty, and also with Stanley Clarke and others.
    The concerts were broadcast live on FM radio on the 5th (the night I attended the concert), and on TV on the 6th. The word of mouth was so powerful they had to add extra concert on Sunday last minute, soon after the original concert ended.
    The band is just perfect. Just perfect.

    Ha, Z... called out a young Rayford at the time of this concert. Hell all of them were young, maybe he should have said, a younger Rayford, but no matter. I think that Ray always brings down the house when he played w JLP, that's what Jean do, he Rock's the joint. Every concert that I've been to of JLP's was on & popin, even when he equipment failed the one concert, it was still a nice concert, that he made happen. He vibe is always mellow, that's what sets a nice concert, relax & gel too be in the moment. Not a lot of concerts are chilled like that 🖤 so I do appreciate the effort that JLP puts into the whole process 🖤...

    • @Ziegen-Sauger
      @Ziegen-Sauger  3 года назад +3

      Passou sim, ao vivo na rádio cultura FM no sábado e na TV Cultura o primeiro show de domingo. Meses depois fizeram esse especial de uma hora do show que eles transmitiram. O do radio tenho até hoje, transcrevi do K7 que gravei para CD e ouço razoavelmente ainda. O som da Cultura FM era sensacional.
      Considero essa a melhor banda dele sob diversos critérios. Gostava muito porque parecia uma banda fixa mesmo, gravavam e faziam shows com raríssimas mudanças.
      Sou viciadaço no JLP, tenho LP desde os anos 60 em dolaboraçōes das mais inesperadas possíveis.
      Depois dessa fase favorita mais ou menos até os trabalhos com Scott Henderson confesso que deixei de lado.
      Aliás quando ele tocou no Palace em 86 com Scott Henderson, o tecladista era o Brazuka Walter Afanassief. Ele è produtor, arranjador e co-compositor de alguns discos da Mariah Carey. Não sei se os primeiros, mas foi quase uma década de colaboração e fase de mais sucesso dela. Hoje eles têm sangue ruim entre eles. Ela não coloca ele em nenhuma autoria e fala dele com desdém.
      Curiosidade pois vi um documentàrio sobre ele um tempo atrás quando estava buscando mais informaçöes daquela formação.
      Griffin foi ao Brasil com o Ponty duas vezes, quase dez anos à parte. Entre elas ele foi com o Stanley Clarke no Projeto SP original, acho que foi até a inauguração do Circo que durou pouquíssimo.

    Portuguese - O Brasil já foi palco de clássicos como esse show. É uma pena não termos mais apresentações mais como essa por aqui. O Brasil vive em uma decadência cultural sem precedentes. A cultura do lixo tomou conta das televisões e da internet. A música ruim envenena a nova geração de leigos. Ainda bem que temos registros como esse de Jean Luc Ponty para termos ideia do quão estamos atrasados.
    English - Brazil has already been the stage for classics like this concert. It's a shame that we no longer have performances like this here. Brazil is experiencing an unprecedented cultural decline. The culture of garbage has taken over television and the internet. Bad music is poisoning the new generation of laypeople. Thankfully, we have recordings like this one from Jean Luc Ponty to give us an idea of how far behind we are.
